Parashat Korakh
1Now Korakh, Ben Yitz’har, Ben Kehat, Ben Levi, with Datan and Aviram, B’nei Eli’av, and On, Ben Pelet, B’nei Re’uven, took men; 2and they rose up in the face of Moshe, with certain of B’nei Yisra’el, two hundred and fifty men; they were princes of the assembly, the elect men of the assembly, men of reputation; 3and they assembled themselves together against Moshe and against Aharon, and said unto them, “You take too much upon you, seeing all the assembly are K’doshim, every one of them, and יהוה is among them; why do you then lift up yourselves above the congregation of יהוה ?” And4 when Moshe heard it, he fell upon his face. 5And he spoke unto Korakh and unto all his company, saying, “In the morning יהוה will show who are His, and who is kadosh, and will cause him to come near unto Him; even him whom He may choose will He cause to come near unto Him. 6This do: take yourself censors, Korakh, and all his company; 7and put fire therein, and put incense upon them before יהוה tomorrow; and it shall be that the man whom יהוה does choose, he shall be kadosh; you take too much upon you, you sons of Levi.” 8And Moshe said unto Korakh, “Hear now, you sons of Levi: 9is it but a small thing unto you, that the Elohim of Yisra’el has separated you from the assembly of Yisra’el, to bring you near to Himself, to do the service of the Mishkan of יהוה , and to stand before the assembly to minister unto them; 10and that He has brought you near, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you? And will you seek the kehunah also? 11Therefore, you and all your company that are gathered together against יהוה and Aharon, what is he that you murmur against him?”
12And Moshe sent to call Datan and Aviram, the sons of Eli’av; and they said, “We will not come up; 13is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you need to make yourself also a prince over us? 14Moreover you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards; will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.” 15And Moshe was very wroth, and said unto יהוה , “Respect not their offering; I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.” 16And Moshe said unto Korakh, “You and all your assembly be before יהוה tomorrow, you, and they, and Aharon; 17and you, take every man his fire-pan, and put incense upon them, and bring before יהוה every man his fire-pan, two hundred and fifty fire-pans; you also, and Aharon, each his fire-pan.” 18And they took every man his fire-pan, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood at the door of the Ohel Mo’ed with Moshe and Aharon. 19And Korakh assembled all the assembly against them unto the door of the Ohel Mo’ed; and the K’vod יהוה appeared unto all the assembly.
20And יהוה spoke unto Moshe and unto Aharon, saying, 21“Separate yourselves from among this assembly, that I may consume them in a moment.” 22And they fell upon their faces, and said, “O Elohim, the Elohim of the rukhot of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be wroth with all the assembly?”
23And יהוה spoke unto Moshe, saying, 24“Speak unto the assembly, saying, “Get up from about the dwelling of Korakh, Datan, and Aviram’.” 25And Moshe rose up and went unto Datan and Aviram; and the elders of Yisra’el followed him. 26And he spoke unto the assembly, saying, “Depart, I pray, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be swept away in all their sins.” 27So they got them up from the dwelling of Korakh, Datan, and Aviram, on every side; and Datan and Aviram came out, and stood at the door of their tents, with their wives, and their sons, and their little ones. 28And Moshe said, “Hereby you shall know that יהוה has sent me to do all these works, and that I have not done them of my own mind. 29If these men die the common death of all men, and be visited after the visitation of all men, then יהוה has not sent me. 30But if יהוה makes a new thing, and the ground opens her mouth and swallows them up, with all that belongs unto them, and they go down alive into the pit, then you shall understand that these men have despised יהוה .”
31And it came to pass, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground did cleave asunder that was under them. 32And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that belonged unto Korakh, and all their goods. 33So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into the pit; and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the assembly. 34And all Yisra’el that were round about them fled at the cry of them; for they said, “Lest the earth swallows us up.” 35And fire came forth from יהוה , and devoured the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.
פרשת קֹרַח
אוַיִּקַּח קֹרַח בֶּן יִצְהָר בֶּן קְהָת בֶּן לֵוִי וְדָתָן וַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב וְאוֹן בֶּן פֶּלֶת בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵן. בוַיָּקֻמוּ לִפְנֵי מֹשֶׁה וַאֲנָשִׁים מִבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל חֲמִשִּׁים וּמָאתָיִם נְשִׂיאֵי עֵדָה קְרִאֵי מוֹעֵד אַנְשֵׁי שֵׁם. גוַיִּקָּהֲלוּ עַל מֹשֶׁה וְעַל אַהֲרֹן וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֲלֵהֶם רַב לָכֶם כִּי כָל הָעֵדָה כֻּלָּם קְדֹשִׁים וּבְתוֹכָם יהוה וּמַדּוּעַ תִּתְנַשְּׂאוּ עַל קְהַל יהוה . דוַיִּשְׁמַע מֹשֶׁה וַיִּפֹּל עַל פָּנָיו. הוַיְדַבֵּר אֶל קֹרַח וְאֶל כָּל עֲדָתוֹ לֵאמֹר בֹּקֶר וְיֹדַע יהוה אֶת אֲשֶׁר לוֹ וְאֶת הַקָּדוֹשׁ וְהִקְרִיב אֵלָיו וְאֵת אֲשֶׁר יִבְחַר בּוֹ יַקְרִיב אֵלָיו. וזֹאת עֲשׂוּ קְחוּ לָכֶם מַחְתּוֹת קֹרַח וְכָל עֲדָתוֹ. זוּתְנוּ בָהֵן אֵשׁ וְשִׂימוּ עֲלֵיהֶן קְטֹרֶת לִפְנֵי יהוה מָחָר וְהָיָה הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יִבְחַר יהוה הוּא הַקָּדוֹשׁ רַב לָכֶם בְּנֵי לֵוִי. חוַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל קֹרַח שִׁמְעוּ נָא בְּנֵי לֵוִי. טהַמְעַט מִכֶּם כִּי הִבְדִּיל אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶתְכֶם מֵעֲדַת יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַקְרִיב אֶתְכֶם אֵלָיו לַעֲבֹד אֶת עֲבֹדַת מִשְׁכַּן יהוה וְלַעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי הָעֵדָה לְשָׁרְתָם. יוַיַּקְרֵב אֹתְךָ וְאֶת כָּל אַחֶיךָ בְנֵי לֵוִי אִתָּךְ וּבִקַּשְׁתֶּם גַּם כְּהֻנָּה. יאלָכֵן אַתָּה וְכָל עֲדָתְךָ הַנֹּעָדִים עַל יהוה וְאַהֲרֹן מַה הוּא כִּי תלונו (תַלִּינוּ) עָלָיו.
יבוַיִּשְׁלַח מֹשֶׁה לִקְרֹא לְדָתָן וְלַאֲבִירָם בְּנֵי אֱלִיאָב וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹא נַעֲלֶה. יגהַמְעַט כִּי הֶעֱלִיתָנוּ מֵאֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ לַהֲמִיתֵנוּ בַּמִּדְבָּר כִּי תִשְׂתָּרֵר עָלֵינוּ גַּם הִשְׂתָּרֵר. ידאַף לֹא אֶל אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ הֲבִיאֹתָנוּ וַתִּתֶּן לָנוּ נַחֲלַת שָׂדֶה וָכָרֶם הַעֵינֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים הָהֵם תְּנַקֵּר לֹא נַעֲלֶה. טווַיִּחַר לְמֹשֶׁה מְאֹד וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל יהוה אַל תֵּפֶן אֶל מִנְחָתָם לֹא חֲמוֹר אֶחָד מֵהֶם נָשָׂאתִי וְלֹא הֲרֵעֹתִי אֶת אַחַד מֵהֶם. טזוַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל הָאֲנָשִׁים הָהֵם תְּנַקֵּר לֹא נַעֲלֶה. טווַיִּחַר לְמֹשֶׁה מְאֹד וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל יהוה אַל תֵּפֶן אֶל מִנְחָתָם לֹא חֲמוֹר אֶחָד מֵהֶם נָשָׂאתִי וְלֹא הֲרֵעֹתִי אֶת אַחַד מֵהֶם. טזוַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל קֹרַח אַתָּה וְכָל עֲדָתְךָ הֱיוּ לִפְנֵי יהוה אַתָּה וָהֵם וְאַהֲרֹן מָחָר. יזוּקְחוּ אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ וּנְתַתֶּם עֲלֵיהֶם קְטֹרֶת וְהִקְרַבְתֶּם לִפְנֵי יהוה אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ חֲמִשִּׁים וּמָאתַיִם מַחְתֹּת וְאַתָּה וְאַהֲרֹן אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ. יחוַיִּקְחוּ אִישׁ מַחְתָּתוֹ וַיִּתְּנוּ עֲלֵיהֶם אֵשׁ וַיָּשִׂימוּ עֲלֵיהֶם קְטֹרֶת וַיַּעַמְדוּ פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וּמֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן. יטוַיַּקְהֵל עֲלֵיהֶם קֹרַח אֶת כָּל הָעֵדָה אֶל פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וַיֵּרָא כְבוֹד יהוה אֶל כָּל הָעֵדָה. כוַיְדַבֵּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה וְאֶל אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר, כאהִבָּדְלוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת וַאֲכַלֶּה אֹתָם כְּרָגַע. כבוַיִּפְּלוּ עַל פְּנֵיהֶם וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֵל אֱלֹהֵי הָרוּחֹת לְכָל בָּשָׂר הָאִישׁ אֶחָד יֶחֱטָא וְעַל כָּל הָעֵדָה תִּקְצֹף.
כגוַיְדַבֵּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר, כדדַּבֵּר אֶל הָעֵדָה לֵאמֹר הֵעָלוּ מִסָּבִיב לְמִשְׁכַּן קֹרַח דָּתָן וַאֲבִירָם. כהוַיָּקָם מֹשֶׁה וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶל דָּתָן וַאֲבִירָם וַיֵּלְכוּ אַחֲרָיו זִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. כווַיְדַבֵּר אֶל הָעֵדָה לֵאמֹר סוּרוּ נָא מֵעַל אָהֳלֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים הָרְשָׁעִים הָאֵלֶּה וְאַל תִּגְּעוּ בְּכָל אֲשֶׁר לָהֶם פֶּן תִּסָּפוּ בְּכָל חַטֹּאתָם. כזוַיֵּעָלוּ מֵעַל מִשְׁכַּן קֹרַח דָּתָן וַאֲבִירָם מִסָּבִיב וְדָתָן וַאֲבִירָם יָצְאוּ נִצָּבִים פֶּתַח אָהֳלֵיהֶם וּנְשֵׁיהֶם וּבְנֵיהֶם וְטַפָּם. כחוַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה בְּזֹאת תֵּדְעוּן כִּי יהוה שְׁלָחַנִי לַעֲשׂוֹת אֵת כָּל הַמַּעֲשִׂים הָאֵלֶּה כִּי לֹא מִלִּבִּי. כטאִם כְּמוֹת כָּל הָאָדָם יְמֻתוּן אֵלֶּה וּפְקֻדַּת כָּל הָאָדָם יִפָּקֵד עֲלֵיהֶם לֹא יהוה שְׁלָחָנִי. לוְאִם בְּרִיאָה יִבְרָא יהוה וּפָצְתָה הָאֲדָמָה אֶת פִּיהָ וּבָלְעָה אֹתָם וְאֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לָהֶם וְיָרְדוּ חַיִּים שְׁאֹלָה וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי נִאֲצוּ הָאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵלֶּה אֶת יהוה .
לאוַיְהִי כְּכַלֹּתוֹ לְדַבֵּר אֵת כָּל הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וַתִּבָּקַע הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר תַּחְתֵּיהֶם. לבוַתִּפְתַּח הָאָרֶץ אֶת פִּיהָ וַתִּבְלַע אֹתָם וְאֶת בָּתֵּיהֶם וְאֵת כָּל הָאָדָם אֲשֶׁר לְקֹרַח וְאֵת כָּל הָרְכוּשׁ. לגוַיֵּרְדוּ הֵם וְכָל אֲשֶׁר לָהֶם חַיִּים שְׁאֹלָה וַתְּכַס עֲלֵיהֶם הָאָרֶץ וַיֹּאבְדוּ מִתּוֹךְ הַקָּהָל. לדוְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹתֵיהֶם נָסוּ לְקֹלָם כִּי אָמְרוּ פֶּן תִּבְלָעֵנוּ הָאָרֶץ. להוְאֵשׁ יָצְאָה מֵאֵת יהוה וַתֹּאכַל אֵת הַחֲמִשִּׁים וּמָאתַיִם אִישׁ מַקְרִיבֵי הַקְּטֹרֶת.
