1And יהוה spoke unto Moshe, saying, 2“Speak unto Elazar Ben Aharon the kohen, that he take up the fire-pans out of the burning, and scatter the fire yonder; for they are become kadosh, 3even the fire-pans of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives, and let them be made into beaten plates for a covering of the Mizbe’akh, for they are become kadosh, because they were offered before יהוה , that they may be a sign unto B’nei Yisra’el.” 4And Elazar the kohen took the brazen fire-pans, which they that were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the Mizbe’akh, 5to be a memorial unto B’nei Yisra’el, to the end that no common man that is not of the seed of Aharon draw near to burn incense before יהוה ; that he fare not as Korakh, and as his company, as יהוה spoke unto him by the hand of Moshe.
6But on the morrow all the assembly of B’nei Yisra’el murmured against Moshe and against Aharon, saying, “You have killed the people of יהוה .” And7 it came to pass, when the assembly was assembled against Moshe and against Aharon, that they looked toward the Ohel Mo’ed; and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the K’vod יהוה appeared. 8And Moshe and Aharon came to the front of the Ohel Mo’ed.
9And יהוה spoke unto Moshe, saying, 10“Get up from among this assembly, that I may consume them in a moment.” And they fell upon their faces. 11And Moshe said unto Aharon, “Take your fire-pan, and put fire therein from off the Mizbe’akh, and lay incense thereon, and carry it quickly unto the assembly, and make atonement for them; for there is wrath gone out from יהוה : the plague is begun.” 12And Aharon took as Moshe spoke, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people; and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people. 13And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. 14Now they that died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides them that died about the matter of Korakh. 15And Aharon returned unto Moshe unto the door of the Ohel Mo’ed, and the plague was stayed.
16And יהוה spoke unto Moshe, saying, 17“Speak unto B’nei Yisra’el, and take of them rods, one for each father’s house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods; you shall write every man’s name upon his rod. 18And you shall write Aharon’s name upon the rod of Levi, for there shall be one rod for the head of their fathers’ houses. 19And you shall lay them up in the Ohel Mo’ed before the testimony where I meet with you. 20And it shall come to pass that the man whom I shall choose, his rod shall bud; and I will make to cease from Me the murmurings of B’nei Yisra’el, which they murmur against you.”
21And Moshe spoke unto B’nei Yisra’el; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince, one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods; and the rod of Aharon was among their rods. 22And Moshe laid up the rods before יהוה in the Ohel HaEdut. 23And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moshe went into the Ohel HaEdut; and, behold, the rod of Aharon for Beit Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and bore ripe almonds. 24And Moshe brought out all the rods from before יהוה unto all B’nei Yisra’el; and they looked, and took every man his rod.
25And יהוה said unto Moshe, “Put back the rod of Aharon before the testimony, to be kept there, for a token against the rebellious children; that there may be made an end of their murmurings against Me, that they die not.” 26Thus did Moshe; as יהוה commanded him, so did he.
27And B’nei Yisra’el spoke unto Moshe, saying, “Behold, we perish, we are undone, we are all undone. 28Every one that comes near, that comes near unto the Mishkan of יהוה , is to die; shall we wholly perish?”
אוַיְדַבֵּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר, באֱמֹר אֶל אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן וְיָרֵם אֶת הַמַּחְתֹּת מִבֵּין הַשְּׂרֵפָה וְאֶת הָאֵשׁ זְרֵה הָלְאָה כִּי קָדֵשׁוּ. גאֵת מַחְתּוֹת הַחַטָּאִים הָאֵלֶּה בְּנַפְשֹׁתָם וְעָשׂוּ אֹתָם רִקֻּעֵי פַחִים צִפּוּי לַמִּזְבֵּחַ כִּי הִקְרִיבֻם לִפְנֵי יהוה וַיִּקְדָּשׁוּ וְיִהְיוּ לְאוֹת לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. דוַיִּקַּח אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן אֵת מַחְתּוֹת הַנְּחֹשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר הִקְרִיבוּ הַשְּׂרֻפִים וַיְרַקְּעוּם צִפּוּי לַמִּזְבֵּחַ. הזִכָּרוֹן לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר לֹא יִקְרַב אִישׁ זָר אֲשֶׁר לֹא מִזֶּרַע אַהֲרֹן הוּא לְהַקְטִיר קְטֹרֶת לִפְנֵי יהוה וְלֹא יִהְיֶה כְקֹרַח וְכַעֲדָתוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה בְּיַד מֹשֶׁה לוֹ.
ווַיִּלֹּנוּ כָּל עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמָּחֳרָת עַל מֹשֶׁה וְעַל אַהֲרֹן לֵאמֹר אַתֶּם הֲמִתֶּם אֶת עַם יהוה . זוַיְהִי בְּהִקָּהֵל הָעֵדָה עַל מֹשֶׁה וְעַל אַהֲרֹן וַיִּפְנוּ אֶל אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהִנֵּה כִסָּהוּ הֶעָנָן וַיֵּרָא כְּבוֹד יהוה . חוַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן אֶל פְּנֵי אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד.
טוַיְדַבֵּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר, יהֵרֹמּוּ מִתּוֹךְ הָעֵדָה הַזֹּאת וַאֲכַלֶּה אֹתָם כְּרָגַע וַיִּפְּלוּ עַל פְּנֵיהֶם. יאוַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל אַהֲרֹן קַח אֶת הַמַּחְתָּה וְתֶן עָלֶיהָ אֵשׁ מֵעַל הַמִּזְבֵּחַוְשִׂים קְטֹרֶת וְהוֹלֵךְ מְהֵרָה אֶל הָעֵדָה וְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיהֶם כִּי יָצָא הַקֶּצֶף מִלִּפְנֵי יהוה הֵחֵל הַנָּגֶף. יבוַיִּקַּח אַהֲרֹן כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר מֹשֶׁה וַיָּרָץ אֶל תּוֹךְ הַקָּהָל וְהִנֵּה הֵחֵל הַנֶּגֶף בָּעָם וַיִּתֵּן אֶת הַקְּטֹרֶת וַיְכַפֵּר עַל הָעָם. יגוַיַּעֲמֹד בֵּין הַמֵּתִים וּבֵין הַחַיִּים וַתֵּעָצַר הַמַּגֵּפָה. ידוַיִּהְיוּ הַמֵּתִים בַּמַּגֵּפָה אַרְבָּעָה עָשָׂר אֶלֶף וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת מִלְּבַד הַמֵּתִים עַל דְּבַר קֹרַח. טווַיָּשָׁב אַהֲרֹן אֶל מֹשֶׁה אֶל פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהַמַּגֵּפָה נֶעֱצָרָה.
טזוַיְדַבֵּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר, יזדַּבֵּר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְקַח מֵאִתָּם מַטֶּה מַטֶּה לְבֵית אָב מֵאֵת כָּל נְשִׂיאֵהֶם לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר מַטּוֹת אִישׁ אֶת שְׁמוֹ תִּכְתֹּב עַל מַטֵּהוּ. יחוְאֵת שֵׁם אַהֲרֹן תִּכְתֹּב עַל מַטֵּה לֵוִי כִּי מַטֶּה אֶחָד לְרֹאשׁ בֵּית אֲבוֹתָם. יטוְהִנַּחְתָּם בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד לִפְנֵי הָעֵדוּת אֲשֶׁר אִוָּעֵד לָכֶם שָׁמָּה. כוְהָיָה הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר אֶבְחַר בּוֹ מַטֵּהוּ יִפְרָח וַהֲשִׁכֹּתִי מֵעָלַי אֶת תְּלֻנּוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר הֵם מַלִּינִם עֲלֵיכֶם.
כאוַיְדַבֵּר מֹשֶׁה אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּתְּנוּ אֵלָיו כָּל נְשִׂיאֵיהֶם מַטֶּה לְנָשִׂיא אֶחָד מַטֶּה לְנָשִׂיא אֶחָד לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר מַטּוֹת וּמַטֵּה אַהֲרֹן בְּתוֹךְ מַטּוֹתָם. כבוַיַּנַּח מֹשֶׁה אֶת הַמַּטֹּת לִפְנֵי יהוה בְּאֹהֶל הָעֵדֻת. כגוַיְהִי מִמָּחֳרָת וַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה אֶל אֹהֶל הָעֵדוּת וְהִנֵּה פָּרַח מַטֵּה אַהֲרֹן לְבֵית לֵוִי וַיֹּצֵא פֶרַח וַיָּצֵץ צִיץ וַיִּגְמֹל שְׁקֵדִים. כדוַיֹּצֵא מֹשֶׁה אֶת כָּל הַמַּטֹּת מִלִּפְנֵי יהוה אֶל כָּל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּרְאוּ וַיִּקְחוּ אִישׁ מַטֵּהוּ.
כהוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה הָשֵׁב אֶת מַטֵּה אַהֲרֹן לִפְנֵי הָעֵדוּת לְמִשְׁמֶרֶת לְאוֹת לִבְנֵי מֶרִי וּתְכַל תְּלוּנֹּתָם מֵעָלַי וְלֹא יָמֻתוּ. כווַיַּעַשׂ מֹשֶׁה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יהוה אֹתוֹ כֵּן עָשָׂה.
כזוַיֹּאמְרוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵאמֹר הֵן גָּוַעְנוּ אָבַדְנוּ כֻּלָּנוּ אָבָדְנוּ. כחכֹּל הַקָּרֵב הַקָּרֵב אֶל מִשְׁכַּן יהוה יָמוּת הַאִם תַּמְנוּ לִגְוֹעַ.
