1And Bilam said unto Balak, “Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.” 2And Balak did as Bilam had spoken; and Balak and Bilam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram. 3And Bilam said unto Balak, “Stand by your burnt-offering, and I will go; perhaps יהוה will come to meet me; and whatever He shows me I will tell you.” And he went to a bare height. 4And Elohim met Bilam; and he said unto Him, “I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.” 5And יהוה put a word in Bilam’s mouth, and said, “Return unto Balak, and thus you shall speak.” 6And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt-offering, he, and all the princes of Mo’av.
7And he took up his mashal, and said, “From Aram Balak brings me, the king of Mo’av from the mountains of the East, ‘Come, curse me Ya’akov, and come, imprecate Yisra’el.’ 8How shall I curse, whom Elohim has not cursed? And how shall I imprecate, whom יהוה has not imprecated? 9For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, it is a people that shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. 10Who has counted the dust of Ya’akov, or numbered the stock of Yisra’el? Let me die the death of the upright, and let my end be like his’!”
11And Balak said unto Bilam, “What have you done unto me? I took you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have blessed them altogether.” 12And he answered and said, “Must I not take heed to speak that which יהוה puts in my mouth?” 13And Balak said unto him, “Come, if you please, with me unto another place, from where you may see them; you shall see but the utmost part of them, and shall not see them all; and curse them for me from there.”
14And he took him into the field of Tzofim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar. 15And he said unto Balak, “Stand here by your burnt-offering, while I go toward a meeting yonder.” 16And יהוה met Bilam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, “Return unto Balak, and thus shall you speak.” 17And he came to him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Mo’av with him. And Balak said unto him, “What has יהוה spoken?” 18And he took up his mashal, and said, “Arise, Balak, and hear; give ear unto me, you son of Tzipor: 19God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should relent: when He has said it, will He not do it? Or, when He has spoken it, will He not make it good? 20Behold, I am bidden to bless; and when He has blessed, I cannot call it back. 21None has beheld iniquity in Ya’akov, neither has one seen perverseness in Yisra’el; יהוה his Elohim is with him, and the shouting of a Melekh is among them. 22God, who brought them forth out of Mitzrayim, is for them like the lofty horns of the wild ox. 23For there is no enchantment with Ya’akov, neither is there any divination with Yisra’el; now is it said of Ya’akov and of Yisra’el, ‘What has God wrought!’ 24Behold a people that rises up as a lioness, and as a lion does he lift himself up; he shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain’.” 25And Balak said unto Bilam, “Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.” 26But Bilam answered and said unto Balak, “Did I not tell you, saying, ‘All that יהוה speaks, that I must do’?” 27And Balak said unto Bilam, “Come now, I will take you unto another place; perhaps it will please Elohim that you may curse them for me from there.” 28And Balak took Bilam unto the top of Peh’or, that looks down upon the desert. 29And Bilam said unto Balak, “Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.” 30And Balak did as Bilam had said, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.
אוַיֹּאמֶר בִּלְעָם אֶל בָּלָק בְּנֵה לִי בָזֶה שִׁבְעָה מִזְבְּחֹת וְהָכֵן לִי בָּזֶה שִׁבְעָה פָרִים וְשִׁבְעָה אֵילִים. בוַיַּעַשׂ בָּלָק כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר בִּלְעָם וַיַּעַל בָּלָק וּבִלְעָם פָּר וָאַיִל בַּמִּזְבֵּחַ. גוַיֹּאמֶר בִּלְעָם לְבָלָק הִתְיַצֵּב עַל עֹלָתֶךָ וְאֵלְכָה אוּלַי יִקָּרֵה יהוה לִקְרָאתִי וּדְבַר מַה יַּרְאֵנִי וְהִגַּדְתִּי לָךְ וַיֵּלֶךְ שֶׁפִי. דוַיִּקָּר אֱלֹהִים אֶל בִּלְעָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֶת שִׁבְעַת הַמִּזְבְּחֹת עָרַכְתִּי וָאַעַל פָּר וָאַיִל בַּמִּזְבֵּחַ. הוַיָּשֶׂם יהוה דָּבָר בְּפִי בִלְעָם וַיֹּאמֶר שׁוּב אֶל בָּלָק וְכֹה תְדַבֵּר. ווַיָּשָׁב אֵלָיו וְהִנֵּה נִצָּב עַל עֹלָתוֹ הוּא וְכָל שָׂרֵי מוֹאָב.
זוַיִּשָּׂא מְשָׁלוֹ וַיֹּאמַר מִן אֲרָם יַנְחֵנִי בָלָק מֶלֶךְ מוֹאָב מֵהַרְרֵי קֶדֶם לְכָה אָרָה לִּי יַעֲקֹב וּלְכָה זֹעֲמָה יִשְׂרָאֵל. חמָה אֶקֹּב לֹא קַבֹּה אֵל וּמָה אֶזְעֹם לֹא זָעַם יהוה . טכִּי מֵרֹאשׁ צֻרִים אֶרְאֶנּוּ וּמִגְּבָעוֹת אֲשׁוּרֶנּוּ הֶן עָם לְבָדָד יִשְׁכֹּן וּבַגּוֹיִם לֹא יִתְחַשָּׁב. ימִי מָנָה עֲפַר יַעֲקֹב וּמִסְפָּר אֶת רֹבַע יִשְׂרָאֵל תָּמֹת נַפְשִׁי מוֹת יְשָׁרִים וּתְהִי אַחֲרִיתִי כָּמֹהוּ.
יאוַיֹּאמֶר בָּלָק אֶל בִּלְעָם מֶה עָשִׂיתָ לִי לָקֹב אֹיְבַי לְקַחְתִּיךָ וְהִנֵּה בֵּרַכְתָּ בָרֵךְ. יבוַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמַר הֲלֹא אֵת אֲשֶׁר יָשִׂים יהוה בְּפִי אֹתוֹ אֶשְׁמֹר לְדַבֵּר. יגוַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו בָּלָק לְךָ נָּא אִתִּי אֶל מָקוֹם אַחֵר אֲשֶׁר תִּרְאֶנּוּ מִשָּׁם אֶפֶס קָצֵהוּ תִרְאֶה וְכֻלּוֹ לֹא תִרְאֶה וְקָבְנוֹ לִי מִשָּׁם. ידוַיִּקָּחֵהוּ שְׂדֵה צֹפִים אֶל רֹאשׁ הַפִּסְגָּה וַיִּבֶן שִׁבְעָה מִזְבְּחֹת וַיַּעַל פָּר וָאַיִל בַּמִּזְבֵּחַ. טווַיֹּאמֶר אֶל בָּלָק הִתְיַצֵּב כֹּה עַל עֹלָתֶךָ וְאָנֹכִי אִקָּרֶה כֹּה. טזוַיִּקָּר יהוה אֶל בִּלְעָם וַיָּשֶׂם דָּבָר בְּפִיו וַיֹּאמֶר שׁוּב אֶל בָּלָק וְכֹה תְדַבֵּר. יזוַיָּבֹא אֵלָיו וְהִנּוֹ נִצָּב עַל עֹלָתוֹ וְשָׂרֵי מוֹאָב אִתּוֹ וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ בָּלָק מַה דִּבֶּר יהוה . יחוַיִּשָּׂא מְשָׁלוֹ וַיֹּאמַר קוּם בָּלָק וּשְׁמָע הַאֲזִינָה עָדַי בְּנוֹ צִפֹּר. יטלֹא אִישׁ אֵל וִיכַזֵּב וּבֶן אָדָם וְיִתְנֶחָם הַהוּא אָמַר וְלֹא יַעֲשֶׂה וְדִבֶּר וְלֹא יְקִימֶנָּה. כהִנֵּה בָרֵךְ לָקָחְתִּי וּבֵרֵךְ וְלֹא אֲשִׁיבֶנָּה. כאלֹא הִבִּיט אָוֶן בְּיַעֲקֹב וְלֹא רָאָה עָמָל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל יהוה אֱלֹהָיו עִמּוֹ וּתְרוּעַת מֶלֶךְ בּוֹ. כבאֵל מוֹצִיאָם מִמִּצְרָיִם כְּתוֹעֲפֹת רְאֵם לוֹ. כגכִּי לֹא נַחַשׁ בְּיַעֲקֹב וְלֹא קֶסֶם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל כָּעֵת יֵאָמֵר לְיַעֲקֹב וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵל מַה פָּעַל אֵל. כדהֶן עָם כְּלָבִיא יָקוּם וְכַאֲרִי יִתְנַשָּׂא לֹא יִשְׁכַּב עַד יֹאכַל טֶרֶף וְדַם חֲלָלִים יִשְׁתֶּה. כהוַיֹּאמֶר בָּלָק אֶל בִּלְעָם גַּם קֹב לֹא תִקֳּבֶנּוּ גַּם בָּרֵךְ לֹא תְבָרְכֶנּוּ. כווַיַּעַן בִּלְעָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל בָּלָק הֲלֹא דִּבַּרְתִּי אֵלֶיךָ לֵאמֹר כֹּל אֲשֶׁר יְדַבֵּר יהוה אֹתוֹ אֶעֱשֶׂה. כזוַיֹּאמֶר בָּלָק אֶל בִּלְעָם לְכָה נָּא אֶקָּחֲךָ אֶל מָקוֹם אַחֵר אוּלַי יִישַׁר בְּעֵינֵי הָאֱלֹהִים וְקַבֹּתוֹ לִי מִשָּׁם. כחוַיִּקַּח בָּלָק אֶת בִּלְעָם רֹאשׁ הַפְּעוֹר הַנִּשְׁקָף עַל פְּנֵי הַיְשִׁימֹן. כטוַיֹּאמֶר בִּלְעָם אֶל בָּלָק בְּנֵה לִי בָזֶה שִׁבְעָה מִזְבְּחֹת וְהָכֵן לִי בָּזֶה שִׁבְעָה פָרִים וְשִׁבְעָה אֵילִם. לוַיַּעַשׂ בָּלָק כַּאֲשֶׁר אָמַר בִּלְעָם וַיַּעַל פָּר וָאַיִל בַּמִּזְבֵּחַ.
