1And Moshe called unto all Yisra’el, and said unto them, “Shema, Yisra’el, [hear] the Khukot and the Mishpatim which I speak in your ears this day, that you may learn them, and observe to do them. 2 יהוה our Elohim made a covenant with us in Khorev. 3 יהוה did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. 4 יהוה spoke with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire, 5I stood between יהוה and you at that time, to declare unto you the D’var יהוה ; for you were afraid because of the fire, and went not up into the mount, to say:
6 ‘I am יהוה your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Mitzrayim, out of the house of bondage. you shall have no other gods before Me. 7You shall not make unto you a graven image, even any manner of likeness, of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 8You shall not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I, יהוה your Elohim, am El Kanah, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate Me, 9and showing mercy unto the thousandth generation of them that love Me and keep My Mitzvot. 10You shall not take the Name of יהוה your Elohim in vain; for יהוה will not hold him guiltless that takes His Name in vain. 11Observe Yom HaShabbat, to keep it Kadosh, as יהוה your Elohim commanded you. 12Six days shall you labor, and do all your work; 13but the seventh day is a Shabbat unto יהוה your Elohim. In it you shall not do any manner of work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates; that your man-servant and your maid-servant may rest as well as you. 14And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Mitzrayim, and יהוה your Elohim brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore יהוה your Elohim commanded you to keep Yom HaShabbat. 15Honor your father and your mother, as יהוה your Elohim commanded you; that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you, upon the land which יהוה your Elohim gives you. 16You shall not murder. Neither shall you commit adultery. Neither shall you steal. Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor. 17Neither shall you covet your neighbor’s wife; neither shall you desire your neighbor’s house, his field, or his man-servant, or his maid-servant, his ox, or his donkey, or any thing that is your neighbor’s.’
18“These words יהוה spoke unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice, and it went on no more. And He wrote them upon two lukhot of stone, and gave them unto me. 19And it came to pass, when you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain did burn with fire, that you came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders; 20and you said, ‘Behold, יהוה our Elohim has shown us His K’vod and His greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire; we have seen this day that Elohim does speak with man, and he lives. 21Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of יהוה our Elohim any more, then we shall die. 22For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living Elohim speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? 23You go near, and hear all that יהוה our Elohim may say; and you shall speak unto us all that יהוה our Elohim may speak unto you; and we will hear it and do it.’ 24And יהוה heard the voice of your words, when you spoke unto me; and יהוה said unto me, ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto you; they have well said all that they have spoken. 25Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear Me, and keep all My Mitzvot, that it might be well with them, and with their children, forever! 26Go say to them, ‘Return to your tents.’ 27But as for you, you stand here by Me, and I will speak unto you all the Mitzvah, and the Khukot, and the Mishpatim, which you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.’ 28You shall observe to do therefore as יהוה your Elohim has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 29You shall walk in all HaDerekh which יהוה your Elohim has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.”
