B’reshit 46 – ברשית מו

t.o.c.

1And Yisra’el took his journey with all that he had, and came to Be’er Shava, and offered sacrifices unto the Elohim of his father Yitz’khak. 2And Elohim spoke unto Yisra’el in the visions of the night, and said, “Ya’akov, Ya’akov.” And he said, “Here am I.” 3And He said, “I am God, the Elohim of your father; fear not to go down into Mitzrayim;  for I will there make of you a great nation. 4I will go down with you into Mitzrayim; and I will also surely bring you up again; and Yosef shall put his hand upon your eyes.” 5And Ya’akov rose up from Be’er Shava; and the sons of Yisra’el carried Ya’akov their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Paroh had sent to carry him. 6And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Kena’an, and came into Mitzrayim, Ya’akov, and all his seed with him; 7his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and all his seed he brought with him into Mitzrayim.

8And these are the names of B’nei Yisra’el, who came into Mitzrayim, Ya’akov and his sons: Re’uven, Ya’akov’s firstborn. 9And the sons of Re’uven: Khanokh, and Palu, and Khetzron, and Kharmi. 10And the sons of Shimon: Yemu’el, and Yamin, and Ohad, and Yakhin, and Tzokhar, and Sha’ul the son of a Kena’ani woman. 11And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kehat, and Merari. 12And the sons of Yehudah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Peretz, and Zerakh; but Er and Onan died in the land of Kena’an. And the sons of Peretz were Hetzron and Khamul. 13And the sons of Yisakhar: Tola, and Puvah, and Iyov, and Shimron. 14And the sons of Zevulun: Sered, and Eilon, and Yahle’el. 15These are the sons of Le’ah, whom she bore unto Ya’akov in Padan Aram, with his daughter Dinah; all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three. 16And the sons of Gad: Tzifiyon, and Khagi, Shuni, and Etzbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli. 17And the sons of Asher: Imnah, and Ishvah, and Ishvi, and Beri’ah, and Serah their sister; and the sons of Beri’ah: Khever, and Malkhi’el. 18These are the sons of Tzilpah, whom Lavan gave to Le’ah his daughter, and these she bore unto Ya’akov, even sixteen souls. 19The sons of Rakhel Ya’akov’s wife: Yosef and Binyamin. 20And unto Yosef in the land of Mitzrayim were born Manasheh and Efrayim, whom Asenat the daughter of Potifera Priest of On bore unto him. 21And the sons of Binyamin: Bela, and Bekher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Na’aman, Ehi, and Rosh, Mupim, and Hupim, and Ard. 22These are the sons of Rakhel, who were born to Ya’akov; all the souls were fourteen. 23And the sons of Dan: Khushim. 24And the sons of Naftali: Yakhtzil, and Guni, and Yetzer, and Shilem. 25These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Lavan gave unto Rakhel his daughter, and these she bore unto Ya’akov; all the souls were seven. 26All the souls belonging to Ya’akov that came into Mitzrayim, that came out of his loins, besides Ya’akov’s sons’ wives, all the souls were sixty-six. 27And the sons of Yosef, who were born to him in Mitzrayim, were two souls; all the souls of the house of Ya’akov, that came into Mitzrayim, were seventy.

28And he sent Yehudah before him unto Yosef, to show the way before him unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen. 29And Yosef made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Yisra’el his father, to Goshen; and he presented himself unto him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while. 30And Yisra’el said unto Yosef, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are yet alive.” 31And Yosef said unto his brethren, and unto his father’s house, “I will go up and tell Paroh, and will say unto him, ‘My brethren, and my father’s house, who were in the land of Kena’an, are come unto me; 32and the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have’. 33And it shall come to pass, when Paroh shall call you, and shall say, ‘What is your occupation?’ 34that you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers;’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto Mitzrayim.”
