1And the man knew Khavah his wife; and she conceived and bore Kayin, and said, “I have gotten a man with the help of יהוה . And2 again she bore his brother Havel. And Havel was a keeper of sheep, but Kayin was a tiller of the ground. 3And in process of time it came to pass, that Kayin brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto יהוה . And4 Havel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And יהוה had respect unto Havel and to his offering; 5but unto Kayin and to his offering He had not respect. And Kayin was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 6And יהוה said unto Kayin, “Why are you wroth? and why is your countenance fallen? 7If you do well, shall it not be lifted up? And if you do not well, sin crouches at the door; and unto you is its desire, but you must rule over it.” 8And Kayin spoke unto Havel his brother. And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Kayin rose up against Havel his brother, and slew him. 9And יהוה said unto Kayin, “Where is Havel your brother?” And he said, “I know not; am I my brother’s keeper?” 10And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries unto Me from the ground. 11And now cursed are you from the ground, which has opened her mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12When you till the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto you her strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shall you be in the earth.” 13And Kayin said unto יהוה , “My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14Behold, You have driven me out this day from the face of the land; and from Your face shall I be hidden; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it will come to pass, that whoever finds me will slay me.” 15And יהוה said unto him, “Therefore whoever slays Kayin, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And יהוה set a sign for Kayin, lest any finding him should smite him. 16And Kayin went out from the presence of יהוה , and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17And Kayin knew his wife; and she conceived, and bore Khanokh; and he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son Khanokh. 18And unto Khanokh was born Irad; and Irad begot Mekhuya’el; and Mekhuya’el begot Metusha’el; and Metusha’el begot Lamekh. 19And Lamekh took unto him two wives; the name of one was Adah, and the name of the other Tzillah. 20And Adah bore Yaval; he was the father of such as dwell in tents and have cattle. 21And his brother’s name was Yuval; he was the father of all such as handle the harp and pipe. 22And Tzillah, she also bore Tuval-Kayin, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron; and the sister of Tuval-Kayin was Na’amah. 23And Lamekh said unto his wives, “Adah and Tzillah, hear my voice; you wives of Lamekh, hearken unto my speech; for I have slain a man for wounding me, and a young man for bruising me; 24If Kayin shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamekh seventy and sevenfold.” 25And Adam knew his wife again; and she bore a son, and called his name Shet, “for Elohim has appointed me another seed instead of Havel; for Kayin slew him.” 26And to Shet, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh; then men began to call upon the Name of יהוה .
