1In the third khodesh after B’nei Yisra’el had gone forth out of the land of Mitzrayim, the same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 2And when they were departed from Refidim, and came to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Yisra’el encamped before the mount. 3And Moshe went up unto Elohim, and יהוה called unto him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus shall you say to Beit Ya’akov, and tell B’nei Yisra’el, 4‘You have seen what I did unto Mitzrayim, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto Myself. 5Now therefore, if you will hearken unto My voice indeed, and keep My Brit, then you shall be My own treasure from among all peoples; for all the earth is Mine; 6and you shall be unto Me a Mamlekhet of Kohanim, and a kadosh nation.” These are the words which you shall speak unto B’nei Yisra’el.” 7And Moshe came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which יהוה commanded him. 8And all the people answered together, and said, “All that יהוה has spoken, we will do.” And Moshe reported the words of the people unto יהוה . And9 יהוה said unto Moshe, “Lo, I come unto you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” And Moshe told the words of the people unto יהוה . And10 יהוה said unto Moshe, “Go unto the people, and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments, 11and be ready against the third day; for the third day יהוה will come down in the sight of all the people upon Har Sinai. 12And you shall set bounds unto the people round about, saying, ‘Take heed to yourselves, that you go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mount shall be surely put to death; 13no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it is beast or man, it shall not live; when the yovel sounds long, they shall come up to the mount’.”
14And Moshe went down from the mount unto the people, and consecrated the people; and they washed their garments. 15And he said unto the people, “Be ready against the third day; come not near a woman.” 16And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a shofar exceedingly loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled. 17And Moshe brought forth the people out of the camp to meet Elohim; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. 18Now Har Sinai was altogether asmoke, because יהוה descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19And when the voice of the shofar waxed louder and louder, Moshe spoke, and Elohim answered him by a voice. 20And יהוה came down upon Har Sinai, to the top of the mount; and יהוה called Moshe to the top of the mount; and Moshe went up. 21And יהוה said unto Moshe, “Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto יהוה to gaze, and many of them perish. 22And let the Kohanim also, that come near to יהוה , hallow themselves, lest יהוה breaks forth upon them.” 23And Moshe said unto יהוה , “The people cannot come up to Har Sinai; for you did charge us, saying, ‘Set bounds about the mount, and hallow it’.” 24And יהוה said unto him, “Go, get down, and you shall come up, you, and Aharon with you; but let not the Kohanim and the people break through to come up unto יהוה , lest He breaks forth upon them.” 25So Moshe went down unto the people and told them.
אבַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁלִישִׁי לְצֵאת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם בַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה בָּאוּ מִדְבַּר סִינָי. בוַיִּסְעוּ מֵרְפִידִים וַיָּבֹאוּ מִדְבַּר סִינַי וַיַּחֲנוּ בַּמִּדְבָּר וַיִּחַן שָׁם יִשְׂרָאֵל נֶגֶד הָהָר. גוּמֹשֶׁה עָלָה אֶל הָאֱלֹהִים וַיִּקְרָא אֵלָיו יהוה מִן הָהָר לֵאמֹר כֹּה תֹאמַר לְבֵית יַעֲקֹב וְתַגֵּיד לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. דאַתֶּם רְאִיתֶם אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי לְמִצְרָיִם וָאֶשָּׂא אֶתְכֶם עַל כַּנְפֵי נְשָׁרִים וָאָבִא אֶתְכֶם אֵלָי. הוְעַתָּה אִם שָׁמוֹעַ תִּשְׁמְעוּ בְּקֹלִי וּשְׁמַרְתֶּם אֶת בְּרִיתִי וִהְיִיתֶם לִי סְגֻלָּה מִכָּל הָעַמִּים כִּי לִי כָּל הָאָרֶץ. ווְאַתֶּם תִּהְיוּ לִי מַמְלֶכֶת כֹּהֲנִים וְגוֹי קָדוֹשׁ אֵלֶּה הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר תְּדַבֵּר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. זוַיָּבֹא מֹשֶׁה וַיִּקְרָא לְזִקְנֵי הָעָם וַיָּשֶׂם לִפְנֵיהֶם אֵת כָּל הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר צִוָּהוּ יהוה . חוַיַּעֲנוּ כָל הָעָם יַחְדָּו וַיֹּאמְרוּ כֹּל אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה נַעֲשֶׂה וַיָּשֶׁב מֹשֶׁה אֶת דִּבְרֵי הָעָם אֶל יהוה . טוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי בָּא אֵלֶיךָ בְּעַב הֶעָנָן בַּעֲבוּר יִשְׁמַע הָעָם בְּדַבְּרִי עִמָּךְ וְגַם בְּךָ יַאֲמִינוּ לְעוֹלָם וַיַּגֵּד מֹשֶׁה אֶת דִּבְרֵי הָעָם אֶל יהוה . יוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵךְ אֶל הָעָם וְקִדַּשְׁתָּם הַיּוֹם וּמָחָר וְכִבְּסוּ שִׂמְלֹתָם. יאוְהָיוּ נְכֹנִים לַיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי כִּי בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִשִׁי יֵרֵד יהוה לְעֵינֵי כָל הָעָם עַל הַר סִינָי. יבוְהִגְבַּלְתָּ אֶת הָעָם סָבִיב לֵאמֹר הִשָּׁמְרוּ לָכֶם עֲלוֹת בָּהָר וּנְגֹעַ בְּקָצֵהוּ כָּל הַנֹּגֵעַ בָּהָר מוֹת יוּמָת. יגלֹא תִגַּע בּוֹ יָד כִּי סָקוֹל יִסָּקֵל אוֹ יָרֹה יִיָּרֶה אִם בְּהֵמָה אִם אִישׁ לֹא יִחְיֶה בִּמְשֹׁךְ הַיֹּבֵל הֵמָּה יַעֲלוּ בָהָר.
ידוַיֵּרֶד מֹשֶׁה מִן הָהָר אֶל הָעָם וַיְקַדֵּשׁ אֶת הָעָם וַיְכַבְּסוּ שִׂמְלֹתָם. טווַיֹּאמֶר אֶל הָעָם הֱיוּ נְכֹנִים לִשְׁלֹשֶׁת יָמִים אַל תִּגְּשׁוּ אֶל אִשָּׁה. טזוַיְהִי בַיּוֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי בִּהְיֹת הַבֹּקֶר וַיְהִי קֹלֹת וּבְרָקִים וְעָנָן כָּבֵד עַל הָהָר וְקֹל שֹׁפָר חָזָק מְאֹד וַיֶּחֱרַד כָּל הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בַּמַּחֲנֶה. יזוַיּוֹצֵא מֹשֶׁה אֶת הָעָם לִקְרַאת הָאֱלֹהִים מִן הַמַּחֲנֶה וַיִּתְיַצְּבוּ בְּתַחְתִּית הָהָר. יחוְהַר סִינַי עָשַׁן כֻּלּוֹ מִפְּנֵי אֲשֶׁר יָרַד עָלָיו יהוה בָּאֵשׁ וַיַּעַל עֲשָׁנוֹ כְּעֶשֶׁן הַכִּבְשָׁן וַיֶּחֱרַד כָּל הָהָר מְאֹד. יטוַיְהִי קוֹל הַשֹּׁפָר הוֹלֵךְ וְחָזֵק מְאֹד מֹשֶׁה יְדַבֵּר וְהָאֱלֹהִים יַעֲנֶנּוּ בְקוֹל. כוַיֵּרֶד יהוה עַל הַר סִינַי אֶל רֹאשׁ הָהָר וַיִּקְרָא יהוה לְמֹשֶׁה אֶל רֹאשׁ הָהָר וַיַּעַל מֹשֶׁה. כאוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה רֵד הָעֵד בָּעָם פֶּן יֶהֶרְסוּ אֶל יהוה לִרְאוֹת וְנָפַל מִמֶּנּוּ רָב. כבוְגַם הַכֹּהֲנִים הַנִּגָּשִׁים אֶל יהוה יִתְקַדָּשׁוּ פֶּן יִפְרֹץ בָּהֶם יהוה . כגוַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל יהוה לֹא יוּכַל הָעָם לַעֲלֹת אֶל הַר סִינָי כִּי אַתָּה הַעֵדֹתָה בָּנוּ לֵאמֹר הַגְבֵּל אֶת הָהָר וְקִדַּשְׁתּוֹ. כדוַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יהוה לֶךְ רֵד וְעָלִיתָ אַתָּה וְאַהֲרֹן עִמָּךְ וְהַכֹּהֲנִים וְהָעָם אַל יֶהֶרְסוּ לַעֲלֹת אֶל יהוה פֶּן יִפְרָץ בָּם. כהוַיֵּרֶד מֹשֶׁה אֶל הָעָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם.
