1And יהוה spoke unto Moshe, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Mitzrayim, unto the land of which I swore unto Avraham, to Yitz’khak, and to Ya’akov, saying, ‘Unto your seed will I give it, 2and I will send My Malakh before you; and I will drive out the Kena’ani, the Emori, and the Khiti, and the Perizi, the Khivi, and the Yevusi, 3unto a land flowing with milk and honey’; for I will not go up in the midst of you; for you are a stiffnecked people; lest I consume you in the way.” 4And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned; and no man did put on him his ornaments. 5And יהוה said unto Moshe, “Say unto B’nei Yisra’el, ‘You are a stiffnecked people; if I go up into the midst of you for one moment, I shall consume you; therefore now put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what to do unto you’.” 6And B’nei Yisra’el stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Khorev onward.
7Now Moshe used to take the tent and to pitch it without the camp, afar off from the camp; and he called it the Ohel Mo’ed. And it came to pass, that every one that sought יהוה went out unto the Ohel Mo’ed, which was without the camp. 8And it came to pass, when Moshe went out unto the Ohel Mo’ed, that all the people rose up, and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moshe, until he was gone into the Ohel Mo’ed. 9And it came to pass, when Moshe entered into the Ohel Mo’ed, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the door of the Ohel Mo’ed; and יהוה spoke with Moshe. 10And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Ohel Mo’ed, all the people rose up and worshipped, every man at his tent door. 11And יהוה spoke unto Moshe face to face, as a man speaks unto his friend. And he would return into the camp; but his minister, Yehoshua Bin Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Ohel.
12And Moshe said unto יהוה , “See, You say unto me, ‘Bring up this people;’ and You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.” 13Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your ways, that I may know You, to the end that I may find grace in Your sight; and consider that this nation is Your people.” 14And He said, “My Presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15And he said unto Him, “If Your Presence does not go with me, do not carry us up from here. 16For how shall it now be known that I have found grace in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not in that You go with us, so that we are distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?”
17And יהוה said unto Moshe, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken, for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.” 18And he said, “Show me, I pray, Your Kavod.” 19And He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the Name of יהוה before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.” 20And He said, “You cannot see My face, for a man shall not see Me and live.” 21And יהוה said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand upon the rock. 22And it shall come to pass, while My Kavod passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand until I have passed by. 23And I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”
אוַיְדַבֵּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵךְ עֲלֵה מִזֶּה אַתָּה וְהָעָם אֲשֶׁר הֶעֱלִיתָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם אֶל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב לֵאמֹר לְזַרְעֲךָ אֶתְּנֶנָּה. בוְשָׁלַחְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ מַלְאָךְ וְגֵרַשְׁתִּי אֶת הַכְּנַעֲנִי הָאֱמֹרִי וְהַחִתִּי וְהַפְּרִזִּי הַחִוִּי וְהַיְבוּסִי. גאֶל אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבָשׁ כִּי לֹא אֶעֱלֶה בְּקִרְבְּךָ כִּי עַם קְשֵׁה עֹרֶף אַתָּה פֶּן אֲכֶלְךָ בַּדָּרֶךְ. דוַיִּשְׁמַע הָעָם אֶת הַדָּבָר הָרָע הַזֶּה וַיִּתְאַבָּלוּ וְלֹא שָׁתוּ אִישׁ עֶדְיוֹ עָלָיו. הוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה אֱמֹר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אַתֶּם עַם קְשֵׁה עֹרֶף רֶגַע אֶחָד אֶעֱלֶה בְקִרְבְּךָ וְכִלִּיתִיךָ וְעַתָּה הוֹרֵד עֶדְיְךָ מֵעָלֶיךָ וְאֵדְעָה מָה אֶעֱשֶׂה לָּךְ. ווַיִּתְנַצְּלוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת עֶדְיָם מֵהַר חוֹרֵב.
זוּמֹשֶׁה יִקַּח אֶת הָאֹהֶל וְנָטָה לוֹ מִחוּץ לַמַּחֲנֶה הַרְחֵק מִן הַמַּחֲנֶה וְקָרָא לוֹ אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְהָיָה כָּל מְבַקֵּשׁ יהוה יֵצֵא אֶל אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד אֲשֶׁר מִחוּץ לַמַּחֲנֶה. חוְהָיָה כְּצֵאת מֹשֶׁה אֶל הָאֹהֶל יָקוּמוּ כָּל הָעָם וְנִצְּבוּ אִישׁ פֶּתַח אָהֳלוֹ וְהִבִּיטוּ אַחֲרֵי מֹשֶׁה עַד בֹּאוֹ הָאֹהֱלָה. טוְהָיָה כְּבֹא מֹשֶׁה הָאֹהֱלָה יֵרֵד עַמּוּד הֶעָנָן וְעָמַד פֶּתַח הָאֹהֶל וְדִבֶּר עִם מֹשֶׁה. יוְרָאָה כָל הָעָם אֶת עַמּוּד הֶעָנָן עֹמֵד פֶּתַח הָאֹהֶל וְקָם כָּל הָעָם וְהִשְׁתַּחֲווּ אִישׁ פֶּתַח אָהֳלוֹ. יאוְדִבֶּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה פָּנִים אֶל פָּנִים כַּאֲשֶׁר יְדַבֵּר אִישׁ אֶל רֵעֵהוּ וְשָׁב אֶל הַמַּחֲנֶה וּמְשָׁרְתוֹ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן נַעַר לֹא יָמִישׁ מִתּוֹךְ הָאֹהֶל.
יבוַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל יהוה רְאֵה אַתָּה אֹמֵר אֵלַי הַעַל אֶת הָעָם הַזֶּה וְאַתָּה לֹא הוֹדַעְתַּנִי אֵת אֲשֶׁר תִּשְׁלַח עִמִּי וְאַתָּה אָמַרְתָּ יְדַעְתִּיךָ בְשֵׁם וְגַם מָצָאתָ חֵן בְּעֵינָי. יגוְעַתָּה אִם נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ הוֹדִעֵנִי נָא אֶת דְּרָכֶךָ וְאֵדָעֲךָ לְמַעַן אֶמְצָא חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ וּרְאֵה כִּי עַמְּךָ הַגּוֹי הַזֶּה. ידוַיֹּאמַר פָּנַי יֵלֵכוּ וַהֲנִחֹתִי לָךְ. טווַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אִם אֵין פָּנֶיךָ הֹלְכִים אַל תַּעֲלֵנוּ מִזֶּה. טזוּבַמֶּה יִוָּדַע אֵפוֹא כִּי מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ אֲנִי וְעַמֶּךָ הֲלוֹא בְּלֶכְתְּךָ עִמָּנוּ וְנִפְלִינוּ אֲנִי וְעַמְּךָ מִכָּל הָעָם אֲשֶׁר עַל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה.
יזוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה גַּם אֶת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ אֶעֱשֶׂה כִּי מָצָאתָ חֵן בְּעֵינַי וָאֵדָעֲךָ בְּשֵׁם. יחוַיֹּאמַר הַרְאֵנִי נָא אֶת כְּבֹדֶךָ. יטוַיֹּאמֶר אֲנִי אַעֲבִיר כָּל טוּבִי עַל פָּנֶיךָ וְקָרָאתִי בְשֵׁם יהוה לְפָנֶיךָ וְחַנֹּתִי אֶת אֲשֶׁר אָחֹן וְרִחַמְתִּי אֶת אֲשֶׁר אֲרַחֵם. כוַיֹּאמֶר לֹא תוּכַל לִרְאֹת אֶת פָּנָי כִּי לֹא יִרְאַנִי הָאָדָם וָחָי. כאוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה הִנֵּה מָקוֹם אִתִּי וְנִצַּבְתָּ עַל הַצּוּר. כבוְהָיָה בַּעֲבֹר כְּבֹדִי וְשַׂמְתִּיךָ בְּנִקְרַת הַצּוּר וְשַׂכֹּתִי כַפִּי עָלֶיךָ עַד עָבְרִי. כגוַהֲסִרֹתִי אֶת כַּפִּי וְרָאִיתָ אֶת אֲחֹרָי וּפָנַי לֹא יֵרָאוּ.
