It is amazing to me how people these days do not WANT ‘truth’. They want their version of understanding, or world view, to be proven. They want to be ‘right’; but not according to actual TRUTH.

This is a childish way to go through the world. Recently, I had a conversation with some children, pre-teen and very early teen, who asked me what I believed about a very particular historical fact, and then refused even to listen to why I believe it. It’s okay, I expect that of kids.

But, the whole world is showing the SAME intellectual immaturity, at best; and at worst, blatant self deception.

I love Yeshua, The Son of God. He is my life. He guides my every step, even though I falter, He still desires and longs for me to do well, and dare I say, even roots for me. But, others do not see that, and are not capable of believing that for me. Because, I’ve just learned to accept, people get a charge out of thinking the worst, I think.

I had this conversation because someone asked me if I believe that Yeshua died for my sins ‘on the cross’. I told this person that I believe Yeshua indeed died for my sins, but, I BELIEVE, I stressed, He died on a TREE, and NOT on a cross.

Without hesitation the denial flew. Without even a thought that I might have a legitimate, intellectual, and well thought-out reason for WHY I believe that, which puts me in NO DIFFERENT SPIRITUAL STATE than they, trusting in HIS DEATH to save me, they simply built the ramparts of defense, and parroted what they had been TOLD, versus listening to what I have studied out. Again, I expect that of the immature.

But, I tried to get them thinking, and reasoning, and looking into HIS WORD for why I BELIEVE what I believe, instead of them thinking that I was just trying to change their minds.

Yeshua carried a ‘stauros’ up the hill. But, he ‘hung’ ON a XULON. Lest anyone say that I am translating these myself, just because I have done a translation of the Word, NO, these are the GREEK source words from the source texts ALL GOOD BIBLES USE. “Stake/Beam”, and “Tree”, not cross.

There are only five passages that actually speak of what Yeshua hung on when they nailed His body up:

30The Elohim of our fathers has raised up Yeshua whom you killed when you nailed Him on the tree. [greek text says XULON; Aramaic/Hebrew is ‘etz/עצ’. ] Acts 5

39And we are witnesses of all things which He did throughout the land of Y’hudah and in Yerushalayim. This very one the Y’hudim hung upon a tree and killed Him; [greek text says XULON; Aramaic/Hebrew is ‘etz/עצ’. ] Acts 10

29And when they had fulfilled all that was written of Him, they lowered him from the tree and laid him in a grave. [greek text says XULON; Aramaic/Hebrew is ‘etz/עצ’. ] Acts 13

13Mashi’akh has redeemed us from the curse in the Torah by becoming accursed for our sakes; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.” [greek text says XULON; Aramaic/Hebrew is ‘etz/עצ’. ] Gal 3

24and He bore all our sins, and lifted them with His body on the tree, that we, being dead to sin, should live through His tzedaka; and by His wounds you were healed. [greek text says XULON; Aramaic/Hebrew is ‘etz/עצ’. ] First Peter 2

The very next thing I said was that the word ‘tau’, the Greek word for ‘cross’, is in NO original text. It was not until the fifth century that it entered sacred writ, when one man, Jerome, translated from Greek into latin and erroneously or deliberately translated ‘stauros’ as ‘crux’, and ‘execution’ [stow-ro’-o, to ‘stake’] as ‘crucifixion.’

But, alas, my immature friends refused even to look at the text in its original form, but simply trusted what has been told them, and what a very, very LATE translation into the fifth or sixth language in their sequence of translation history, tells them to believe.

Granted, the ‘tradition’ is overwhelming, and most people who believe in Yeshua actually do believe in a ‘cross’ versus a beam that He carried up a hill that He was nailed to, lifted up on and then fastened to a tree, and when His feet were then nailed into the tree. When the scriptures, THEIR SOURCE TEXTS, say that He was nailed to the TREE. Staked. I personally believe, and I told them this, that Yeshua’s execution would have put His body in the same shape as their believed method would, but, the SYMBOL changes, when one surmises that He was nailed, in all likelihood, to an OLIVE TREE, which are plenteous on all the hills surrounding Jerusalem, and quite large enough. The symbol then becomes an olive tree, the source of the oil of ANOINTING, and of the Menorah, the source of light. An olive tree is seen in scripture as a natural menorah. [The symbols of the congregations in Revelation 2-3 are seven “Menorahs”.]

And, I tried to explain, ONE olive tree is large enough for all THREE who were staked that day, to a tree. And they were likely all on ONE tree.

Think about this. Yokhanan was the ONLY gospel writer who was actually there, at the scene of the execution. He records this:

32So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was executed with Him.  33But when they came to Yeshua, they saw that He was dead already, so they did not break His legs

This seems like a harmless sentence, but, to me, it DESTROYS the traditional † † † scenario. That is how everyone ‘thinks’ this scene was; the image that ‘one on the right and one on the left’ makes this a linear configuration. But, a TREE makes it a circular configuration, all of them being nailed to the very squatty, but VERY large-circumference, tree. If they went to EITHER one in the linear configuration, they would have PASSED Yeshua to get to the other BEFORE they got to Yeshua. Do we really think the Romans were so inefficient, or even daft, to walk by Him first, and then return to the guy in the middle? I don’t think so. I fully believe they all three were hanging from the same olive tree. And it then makes sense that they ‘came to Yeshua’ last. Because the soldier walked in a logical circle, around the tree.

The other verse that so attaches people to the symbol, which is NOT in the Bible, is this:

14But as for me, may I never boast, except in the cross [σταυρῷ, ‘stauros’, NOT ‘cross’] of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified [ ἐσταύρωται estaurōtai, staked/executed] to me, and I to the world.

It should read this way:

14“But as for me, I have nothing on which to boast except the staking of Adoneinu Yeshua HaMashi’akh, by whom the world is executed to me and I am executed to the world.”  [Gal 6]

Sha’ul, or Paul, was NOT ‘glorying’ in the SYMBOL, nor in the actual implement of execution, but in the VOLUNTARY SURRENDER to EXECUTION. THAT is what the apostle CELEBRATED.

So, it amazes me, but does NOT surprise me, that the whole world is so willing to follow the crowd, and NOT the WORD OF GOD. People do it all the time, and refuse to change. People refuse to SEE His truth. Is this what is meant when it was written:

“Ever learning, but NEVER coming to the KNOWLEDGE of the TRUTH.”

And when Yeshua said,

“You certainly do injustice to the mitzvah of Elohim so as to sustain your own tradition. “

I think so.

See my about page! I'm a Messianic Jewish writer, and teacher of the Torah as Messiah Yeshua taught it. I'm a husband, father, and grandfather. A musician, singer, and composer. Most importantly, a servant of the Messiah of Israel, Yeshua HaNatzri!

  1. Good morning Daniel ,
You definitely provide deep insight in the way you present the WORD. For me, it makes me want to dig deeper.

    As said
“Ever learning, but NEVER coming to the KNOWLEDGE of the TRUTH.”

    Where are you holding studies?
