Divrei HaYamim Alef 10 – דברי הימים א פרק י

t.o.c.

1Now the P’lishtim fought against Yisra’el; and the men of Yisra’el fled from before the P’lishtim, and fell down slain in Har Gilbo’a. 2And the P’lishtim followed hard after Sha’ul and after his sons; and the P’lishtim slew Yehonatan, and Avinadav, and Malkhi Shu’ah, the sons of Sha’ul. 3And the battle went sore against Sha’ul, and the archers overtook him; and he was in anguish by reason of the archers. 4Then said Sha’ul unto his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and make a mockery of me.” But his armor-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid.  Therefore Sha’ul took his sword, and fell upon it. 5And when his armor-bearer saw that Sha’ul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.  6So Sha’ul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together. 7And when all the men of Yisra’el that were in the valley saw that [Yisra’el] fled, and that Sha’ul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the P’lishtim came and dwelt in them.  8And it came to pass on the morrow, when the P’lishtim came to strip the slain, that they found Sha’ul and his sons fallen in Har Gilbo’a. 9And they stripped him, and took his head,  and his armor,  and sent into the land of the P’lishtim round about,  to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people. 10And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.  11And when all Yaveish Gilad heard all that the P’lishtim had done to Sha’ul, 12all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Sha’ul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Yaveish, and buried their bones under the terebinth in Yaveish, and fasted seven days. 13So Sha’ul died for his transgression which he committed against  יהוה , because of the D’var  יהוה , which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of a ghost, to inquire thereby, 14and inquired not of  יהוה ; therefore He slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David Ben Yishai.
