1Then all Yisra’el gathered themselves to David unto Khevron, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. 2In times past, even when Sha’ul was Melekh, it was you that did lead out and bring in Yisra’el; and יהוה your Elohim said unto you, ‘You shall feed My people Yisra’el, and you shall be prince over My people Yisra’el’.” 3So all the elders of Yisra’el came to HaMelekh to Khevron; and David made a covenant with them in Khevron before יהוה ; and they anointed David Melekh over Yisra’el, according to the D’var יהוה by the hand of Shmu’el. 4And David and all Yisra’el went to Yerushalayim, the same is Yevus, and the Yevusi, the inhabitants of the land, were there. 5And the inhabitants of Yevus said to David, “You shall not come in here.” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Tzion; the same is the city of David. 6And David said, “Whoever smites the Yevusi first shall be chief and captain.” And Yo’av Ben Tzeru-Yah went up first, and was made chief. 7And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David. 8And he built the city round about, from Milo even round about; and Yo’av repaired the rest of the city. 9And David waxed greater and greater; for יהוה Tzeva’ot was with him.
10Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who held strongly with him in his kingdom, together with all Yisra’el, to make him Melekh, according to the D’var יהוה concerning Yisra’el. 11And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Yashavam, the son of a Khakhmoni, the chief of the captains; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them at one time. 12And after him was Elazar Ben Dodo, the Akhokhi, who was one of the three mighty men. 13He was with David at Pas Damim, and there the P’lishtim were gathered together to battle, where was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the P’lishtim. 14But they stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the P’lishtim; and יהוה saved them by a great victory. 15And three of the thirty chiefs went down to the rock to David, unto the cave of Adulam; and the host of the P’lishtim were encamped in the valley of Refayim. 16And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the P’lishtim was then in Beit Lekhem. 17And David longed, and said, “Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beit Lekhem, which is by the gate!’ 18And the three broke through the host of the P’lishtim, and drew water out of the well of Beit Lekhem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto יהוה , and19 said, “My Elohim forbid it of me, that I should do this; shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? For with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men. 20And Avishai, the brother of Yo’av, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three. 21Of the three in the second rank he was the most honorable, and was made their captain; however, he attained not to the first three. 22Bena-Yah Ben Yehoyada, the son of a valiant man of Kavtze’el, who had done mighty deeds, he smote the two altar-hearths of Mo’av; he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow. 23And he slew a Mitzri, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Mitzri’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Mitzri’s hand, and slew him with his own spear. 24These things did Bena-Yah Ben Yehoyada, and had a name among the three mighty men. 25Behold, he was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three; and David set him over his guard. 26Also the mighty men of valor: Asahel the brother of Yo’av, Elkhanan Ben Dodo of Beit Lekhem; 27Shamot HaHarori, Khaletz HaPeloni; 28Ira Ben Ikesh the Teko’i, Avi’ezer the Anatoti. 29Sibkhai HaKhushati, Ilai HaAkhokhi; 30Makhrai HaNetofati, Kheled Ben Ba’anah HaNetofati; 31Itai Ben Rivai of Givat B’nei Binyamin, Bena-Yah HaPiratoni; 32Khurai of Nakhalei Ga’ash, Avi’el HaArvati; 33Azmavet HaBakharumi, Eli’ahba HaSha’alvoni; 34the sons of Hashem HaGizoni, Yehonatan Ben Shageh HaHarari; 35Akhi’am Ben Sakhar HaHarari, Elifal Ben Ur; 36Khefer HaMekherati, Akhi-Yah HaPeloni; 37Khetzro HaKarmeli, Na’arai Ben Ezbai; 38Yo’el the brother of Natan, Mivkhar Ben Hagri; 39Tzelek HaAmoni, Nakhrai HaBeroti, the armor-bearer of Yo’av Ben Tzeru-Yah; 40Ira HaItri, Garev HaItri; 41Uri-Yah HaKhiti, Zavad Ben Akhlai; 42Adina Ben Shiza HaRuveni, a chief of the Ruveni, and thirty with him; 43Khanan Ben Ma’akhah, and Yoshafat HaMitni; 44Uzi-Yah Ashtarti, Shama and Ye’iyel the sons of Khotam the Aro’eri; 45Yediya’el Ben Shimri, and Yokha his brother, the Titzi; 46Eli’el HaMakhavim, and Yerivai, and Yoshav-Yah, the sons of Elna’am, and Yitma HaMo’avi; 47Eli’el, and Oved, and Ya’asi’el HaMetzovayah.
אוַיִּקָּבְצוּ כָל יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל דָּוִיד חֶבְרוֹנָה לֵאמֹר: הִנֵּה עַצְמְךָ וּבְשָׂרְךָ אֲנָחְנוּ. בגַּם תְּמוֹל גַּם שִׁלְשׁוֹם גַּם בִּהְיוֹת שָׁאוּל מֶלֶךְ אַתָּה הַמּוֹצִיא וְהַמֵּבִיא אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְךָ אַתָּה תִרְעֶה אֶת עַמִּי אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאַתָּה תִּהְיֶה נָגִיד עַל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל. גוַיָּבֹאוּ כָּל זִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל הַמֶּלֶךְ חֶבְרוֹנָה וַיִּכְרֹת לָהֶם דָּוִיד בְּרִית בְּחֶבְרוֹן לִפְנֵי יהוה ; וַיִּמְשְׁחוּ אֶת דָּוִיד לְמֶלֶךְ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּדְבַר יהוה בְּיַד שְׁמוּאֵל. דוַיֵּלֶךְ דָּוִיד וְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל יְרוּשָׁלִַם הִיא יְבוּס; וְשָׁם הַיְבוּסִי יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ. הוַיֹּאמְרוּ יֹשְׁבֵי יְבוּס לְדָוִיד לֹא תָבוֹא הֵנָּה; וַיִּלְכֹּד דָּוִיד אֶת מְצֻדַת צִיּוֹן הִיא עִיר דָּוִיד. ווַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד כָּל מַכֵּה יְבוּסִי בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה יִהְיֶה לְרֹאשׁ וּלְשָׂר; וַיַּעַל בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה יוֹאָב בֶּן צְרוּיָה וַיְהִי לְרֹאשׁ. זוַיֵּשֶׁב דָּוִיד בַּמְצָד; עַל כֵּן קָרְאוּ לוֹ עִיר דָּוִיד. חוַיִּבֶן הָעִיר מִסָּבִיב מִן הַמִּלּוֹא וְעַד הַסָּבִיב; וְיוֹאָב יְחַיֶּה אֶת שְׁאָר הָעִיר. טוַיֵּלֶךְ דָּוִיד הָלוֹךְ וְגָדוֹל; וַיהוה צְבָאוֹת עִמּוֹ.
יוְאֵלֶּה רָאשֵׁי הַגִּבֹּרִים אֲשֶׁר לְדָוִיד הַמִּתְחַזְּקִים עִמּוֹ בְמַלְכוּתוֹ עִם כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַמְלִיכוֹ כִּדְבַר יהוה עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל. יאוְאֵלֶּה מִסְפַּר הַגִּבֹּרִים אֲשֶׁר לְדָוִיד: יָשָׁבְעָם בֶּן חַכְמוֹנִי רֹאשׁ השלושים (הַשָּׁלִישִׁים) הוּא עוֹרֵר אֶת חֲנִיתוֹ עַל שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת חָלָל בְּפַעַם אֶחָת. יבוְאַחֲרָיו אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן דּוֹדוֹ הָאֲחוֹחִי; הוּא בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁה הַגִּבֹּרִים. יגהוּא הָיָה עִם דָּוִיד בַּפַּס דַּמִּים וְהַפְּלִשְׁתִּים נֶאֶסְפוּ שָׁם לַמִּלְחָמָה וַתְּהִי חֶלְקַת הַשָּׂדֶה מְלֵאָה שְׂעוֹרִים; וְהָעָם נָסוּ מִפְּנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים. ידוַיִּתְיַצְּבוּ בְתוֹךְ הַחֶלְקָה וַיַּצִּילוּהָ וַיַּכּוּ אֶת פְּלִשְׁתִּים; וַיּוֹשַׁע יהוה תְּשׁוּעָה גְדוֹלָה. טווַיֵּרְדוּ שְׁלוֹשָׁה מִן הַשְּׁלוֹשִׁים רֹאשׁ עַל הַצֻּר אֶל דָּוִיד אֶל מְעָרַת עֲדֻלָּם; וּמַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים חֹנָה בְּעֵמֶק רְפָאִים. טזוְדָוִיד אָז בַּמְּצוּדָה; וּנְצִיב פְּלִשְׁתִּים אָז בְּבֵית לָחֶם. יזוַיִּתְאָו דָּוִיד וַיֹּאמַר: מִי יַשְׁקֵנִי מַיִם מִבּוֹר בֵּית לֶחֶם אֲשֶׁר בַּשָּׁעַר. יחוַיִּבְקְעוּ הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה בְּמַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיִּשְׁאֲבוּ מַיִם מִבּוֹר בֵּית לֶחֶם אֲשֶׁר בַּשַּׁעַר וַיִּשְׂאוּ וַיָּבִאוּ אֶל דָּוִיד; וְלֹא אָבָה דָוִיד לִשְׁתּוֹתָם וַיְנַסֵּךְ אֹתָם לַיהוה . יטוַיֹּאמֶר חָלִילָה לִּי מֵאֱלֹהַי מֵעֲשׂוֹת זֹאת הֲדַם הָאֲנָשִׁים הָאֵלֶּה אֶשְׁתֶּה בְנַפְשׁוֹתָם כִּי בְנַפְשׁוֹתָם הֱבִיאוּם וְלֹא אָבָה לִשְׁתּוֹתָם; אֵלֶּה עָשׂוּ שְׁלֹשֶׁת הַגִּבּוֹרִים. כוְאַבְשַׁי אֲחִי יוֹאָב הוּא הָיָה רֹאשׁ הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁה וְהוּא עוֹרֵר אֶת חֲנִיתוֹ עַל שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת חָלָל; ולא (וְלוֹ) שֵׁם בַּשְּׁלוֹשָׁה. כאמִן הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁה בַשְּׁנַיִם נִכְבָּד וַיְהִי לָהֶם לְשָׂר; וְעַד הַשְּׁלוֹשָׁה לֹא בָא. כבבְּנָיָה בֶן יְהוֹיָדָע בֶּן אִישׁ חַיִל רַב פְּעָלִים מִן קַבְצְאֵל; הוּא הִכָּה אֵת שְׁנֵי אֲרִיאֵל מוֹאָב וְהוּא יָרַד וְהִכָּה אֶת הָאֲרִי בְּתוֹךְ הַבּוֹר בְּיוֹם הַשָּׁלֶג. כגוְהוּא הִכָּה אֶת הָאִישׁ הַמִּצְרִי אִישׁ מִדָּה חָמֵשׁ בָּאַמָּה וּבְיַד הַמִּצְרִי חֲנִית כִּמְנוֹר אֹרְגִים וַיֵּרֶד אֵלָיו בַּשָּׁבֶט; וַיִּגְזֹל אֶת הַחֲנִית מִיַּד הַמִּצְרִי וַיַּהַרְגֵהוּ בַּחֲנִיתוֹ. כדאֵלֶּה עָשָׂה בְּנָיָהוּ בֶּן יְהוֹיָדָע; וְלוֹ שֵׁם בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁה הַגִּבֹּרִים. כהמִן הַשְּׁלוֹשִׁים הִנּוֹ נִכְבָּד הוּא וְאֶל הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה לֹא בָא; וַיְשִׂימֵהוּ דָוִיד עַל מִשְׁמַעְתּוֹ. כווְגִבּוֹרֵי הַחֲיָלִים: עֲשָׂהאֵל אֲחִי יוֹאָב אֶלְחָנָן בֶּן דּוֹדוֹ מִבֵּית לָחֶם. כזשַׁמּוֹת הַהֲרוֹרִי חֶלֶץ הַפְּלוֹנִי. כחעִירָא בֶן עִקֵּשׁ הַתְּקוֹעִי אֲבִיעֶזֶר הָעַנְּתוֹתִי. כטסִבְּכַי הַחֻשָׁתִי עִילַי הָאֲחוֹחִי. למַהְרַי הַנְּטֹפָתִי חֵלֶד בֶּן בַּעֲנָה הַנְּטוֹפָתִי. לאאִיתַי בֶּן רִיבַי מִגִּבְעַת בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן בְּנָיָה הַפִּרְעָתֹנִי. לבחוּרַי מִנַּחֲלֵי גָעַשׁ אֲבִיאֵל הָעַרְבָתִי. לגעַזְמָוֶת הַבַּחֲרוּמִי אֶלְיַחְבָּא הַשַּׁעַלְבֹנִי. לדבְּנֵי הָשֵׁם הַגִּזוֹנִי יוֹנָתָן בֶּן שָׁגֵה הַהֲרָרִי. להאֲחִיאָם בֶּן שָׂכָר הַהֲרָרִי אֱלִיפַל בֶּן אוּר. לוחֵפֶר הַמְּכֵרָתִי אֲחִיָּה הַפְּלֹנִי. לזחֶצְרוֹ הַכַּרְמְלִי נַעֲרַי בֶּן אֶזְבָּי. לחיוֹאֵל אֲחִי נָתָן מִבְחָר בֶּן הַגְרִי. לטצֶלֶק הָעַמּוֹנִי; נַחְרַי הַבֵּרֹתִי נֹשֵׂא כְּלֵי יוֹאָב בֶּן צְרוּיָה. מעִירָא הַיִּתְרִי גָּרֵב הַיִּתְרִי. מאאוּרִיָּה הַחִתִּי זָבָד בֶּן אַחְלָי. מבעֲדִינָא בֶן שִׁיזָא הָראוּבֵנִי רֹאשׁ לָראוּבֵנִי וְעָלָיו שְׁלֹשִׁים. מגחָנָן בֶּן מַעֲכָה וְיוֹשָׁפָט הַמִּתְנִי. מדעֻזִּיָּא הָעַשְׁתְּרָתִי; שָׁמָע ויעואל (וִיעִיאֵל) בְּנֵי חוֹתָם הָעֲרֹעֵרִי. מהיְדִיעֲאֵל בֶּן שִׁמְרִי וְיֹחָא אָחִיו הַתִּיצִי. מואֱלִיאֵל הַמַּחֲוִים וִירִיבַי וְיוֹשַׁוְיָה בְּנֵי אֶלְנָעַם; וְיִתְמָה הַמּוֹאָבִי. מזאֱלִיאֵל וְעוֹבֵד וְיַעֲשִׂיאֵל הַמְּצֹבָיָה.
