1And David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader. 2And David said unto all the assembly of Yisra’el, “If it seems good unto you, and if it is of יהוה our Elohim, let us send abroad everywhere unto our brethren that are left in all the land of Yisra’el, and with them to the Kohanim and Levi’im that are in their cities that have open land about them, that they may gather themselves unto us; 3and let us bring back the Aron Eloheinu to us; for we sought not unto it in the days of Sha’ul.” 4And all the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. 5So David assembled all Yisra’el together, from Shikhor the brook of Mitzrayim even unto the entrance of Khamat, to bring the Aron HaElohim from Kiryat Y’arim. 6And David went up, and all Yisra’el, to Ba’alah, that is, to Kiryat Y’arim, which belonged to Yehudah, to bring up from there the Aron HaElohim יהוה that sits upon the Keruvim, whereon is called the Name. 7And they set the Aron HaElohim upon a new cart, [and brought it] out of the house of Avinadav; and Uza and Akhiyo drove the cart. 8And David and all Yisra’el played before Elohim with all their might; even with songs, and with kinorot, and with nevalim, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets. 9And when they came unto the threshing-floor of Khidon, Uza put forth his hand to hold the Aron; for the oxen stumbled. 10And the anger of יהוה was kindled against Uza, and He smote him, because he put forth his hand to the Aron; and there he died before Elohim. 11And David was displeased, because יהוה had broken forth upon Uza; and that place was called Peretz Uza unto this day. 12And David was afraid of Elohim that day, saying, “How shall I bring the Aron HaElohim home to me?” 13So David removed not the Aron unto him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Oved Edom HaGiti. 14And the Aron HaElohim remained with the family of Oved Edom in his house three khadashim; and יהוה blessed the house of Oved Edom, and all that he had.
אוַיִּוָּעַץ דָּוִיד עִם שָׂרֵי הָאֲלָפִים וְהַמֵּאוֹת לְכָל נָגִיד. בוַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד לְכֹל קְהַל יִשְׂרָאֵל אִם עֲלֵיכֶם טוֹב וּמִן יהוה אֱלֹהֵינוּ נִפְרְצָה נִשְׁלְחָה עַל אַחֵינוּ הַנִּשְׁאָרִים בְּכֹל אַרְצוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעִמָּהֶם הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם בְּעָרֵי מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶם; וְיִקָּבְצוּ אֵלֵינוּ. גוְנָסֵבָּה אֶת אֲרוֹן אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֵלֵינוּ: כִּי לֹא דְרַשְׁנֻהוּ בִּימֵי שָׁאוּל. דוַיֹּאמְרוּ כָל הַקָּהָל לַעֲשׂוֹת כֵּן: כִּי יָשַׁר הַדָּבָר בְּעֵינֵי כָל הָעָם. הוַיַּקְהֵל דָּוִיד אֶת כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל מִן שִׁיחוֹר מִצְרַיִם וְעַד לְבוֹא חֲמָת לְהָבִיא אֶת אֲרוֹן הָאֱלֹהִים מִקִּרְיַת יְעָרִים. ווַיַּעַל דָּוִיד וְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּעֲלָתָה אֶל קִרְיַת יְעָרִים אֲשֶׁר לִיהוּדָה: לְהַעֲלוֹת מִשָּׁם אֵת אֲרוֹן הָאֱלֹהִים יהוה יוֹשֵׁב הַכְּרוּבִים אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שֵׁם. זוַיַּרְכִּיבוּ אֶת אֲרוֹן הָאֱלֹהִים עַל עֲגָלָה חֲדָשָׁה מִבֵּית אֲבִינָדָב; וְעֻזָּא וְאַחְיוֹ נֹהֲגִים בָּעֲגָלָה. חוְדָוִיד וְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל מְשַׂחֲקִים לִפְנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים בְּכָל עֹז; וּבְשִׁירִים וּבְכִנֹּרוֹת וּבִנְבָלִים וּבְתֻפִּים וּבִמְצִלְתַּיִם וּבַחֲצֹצְרוֹת. טוַיָּבֹאוּ עַד גֹּרֶן כִּידֹן; וַיִּשְׁלַח עֻזָּא אֶת יָדוֹ לֶאֱחֹז אֶת הָאָרוֹן כִּי שָׁמְטוּ הַבָּקָר. יוַיִּחַר אַף יהוה בְּעֻזָּא וַיַּכֵּהוּ עַל אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח יָדוֹ עַל הָאָרוֹן; וַיָּמָת שָׁם לִפְנֵי אֱלֹהִים. יאוַיִּחַר לְדָוִיד כִּי פָרַץ יהוה פֶּרֶץ בְּעֻזָּא; וַיִּקְרָא לַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא פֶּרֶץ עֻזָּא עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. יבוַיִּירָא דָוִיד אֶת הָאֱלֹהִים בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לֵאמֹר: הֵיךְ אָבִיא אֵלַי אֵת אֲרוֹן הָאֱלֹהִים. יגוְלֹא הֵסִיר דָּוִיד אֶת הָאָרוֹן אֵלָיו אֶל עִיר דָּוִיד; וַיַּטֵּהוּ אֶל בֵּית עֹבֵד אֱדֹם הַגִּתִּי. ידוַיֵּשֶׁב אֲרוֹן הָאֱלֹהִים עִם בֵּית עֹבֵד אֱדֹם בְּבֵיתוֹ שְׁלֹשָׁה חֳדָשִׁים; וַיְבָרֶךְ יהוה אֶת בֵּית עֹבֵד אֱדֹם וְאֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לוֹ.
