1And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Natan HaNavi, “Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the Aron HaBrit יהוה dwells under curtains.” 2And Natan said unto David, “Do all that is in your heart; for Elohim is with you.” 3And it came to pass the same night, that the D’var HaElohim came to Natan, saying, 4“Go and tell David My servant, ‘Thus says יהוה , ‘You shall not build Me a house to dwell in; 5for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Yisra’el, unto this day; but have [gone] from tent to tent, and from one Mishkan [to another]. 6In all places wherein I have walked among all Yisra’el, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Yisra’el, whom I commanded to feed My people, saying, ‘Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?”’ 7Now therefore thus shall you say unto My servant David, ‘Thus says יהוה Tzeva’ot, ‘I took you from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over My people Yisra’el; 8and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth. 9And I will appoint a place for My people Yisra’el, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disquieted no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first, 10even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Yisra’el; and I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover I tell you that יהוה will build you a house. 11And it shall come to pass, when your days are fulfilled that you must go to be with your fathers, that I will set up your seed after you, who shall be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom. 12He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever. 13I will be to him for a father, and he shall be to Me for a son; and I will not take My mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before you; 14but I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever; and his throne shall be established forever.'” 15According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Natan speak unto David.
16Then David HaMelekh went in, and sat before יהוה ; and he said, “Who am I, O יהוה Elohim, and what is my house, that You have brought me thus far? 17And this was a small thing in Your eyes, O Elohim; but You have spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have regarded me after the manner of a man of high degree, O יהוה Elohim. 18What can David say yet more unto You concerning the honor which is done to Your servant? For You know Your servant. 19O יהוה , for Your servant’s sake, and according to Your own heart, have You wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things. 20O יהוה , there is none like You, neither is there any Elohim beside You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 21And who is like Your people Yisra’el, a nation one in the earth, whom Elohim went to redeem unto Himself for a people, to make You a Name by great and tremendous things, in driving out nations from before Your people, whom You did redeem out of Mitzrayim. 22For Your people Yisra’el did You make Your own people forever; and You, יהוה , became their Elohim. 23And now, O יהוה , let HaDavar that You have spoken concerning Your servant, and concerning his house, be established forever, and do as You have spoken. 24Yes, let it be established, and let Your Name be magnified forever, that it may be said, ‘ יהוה Tzeva’ot is the Elohim of Yisra’el, even Elohei Yisra’el;’ and Beit David Your servant shall be established before You. 25For You, O my Elohim, have revealed to Your servant that You will build him a house; therefore has Your servant taken heart to pray before You. 26And now, O יהוה , You alone are Elohim, and have promised this good thing unto Your servant; 27and now it has pleased You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You; for You, O יהוה , have blessed, and so let [Your servant] be blessed forever.”
אוַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר יָשַׁב דָּוִיד בְּבֵיתוֹ; וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד אֶל נָתָן הַנָּבִיא הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי יוֹשֵׁב בְּבֵית הָאֲרָזִים וַאֲרוֹן בְּרִית יהוה תַּחַת יְרִיעוֹת. בוַיֹּאמֶר נָתָן אֶל דָּוִיד כֹּל אֲשֶׁר בִּלְבָבְךָ עֲשֵׂה: כִּי הָאֱלֹהִים עִמָּךְ. גוַיְהִי בַּלַּיְלָה הַהוּא; וַיְהִי דְּבַר אֱלֹהִים אֶל נָתָן לֵאמֹר, דלֵךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ אֶל דָּוִיד עַבְדִּי כֹּה אָמַר יהוה : לֹא אַתָּה תִּבְנֶה לִּי הַבַּיִת לָשָׁבֶת. הכִּי לֹא יָשַׁבְתִּי בְּבַיִת מִן הַיּוֹם אֲשֶׁר הֶעֱלֵיתִי אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה; וָאֶהְיֶה מֵאֹהֶל אֶל אֹהֶל וּמִמִּשְׁכָּן. ובְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר הִתְהַלַּכְתִּי בְּכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל הֲדָבָר דִּבַּרְתִּי אֶת אַחַד שֹׁפְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי לִרְעוֹת אֶת עַמִּי לֵאמֹר: לָמָּה לֹא בְנִיתֶם לִי בֵּית אֲרָזִים. זוְעַתָּה כֹּה תֹאמַר לְעַבְדִּי לְדָוִיד כֹּה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֲנִי לְקַחְתִּיךָ מִן הַנָּוֶה מִן אַחֲרֵי הַצֹּאן לִהְיוֹת נָגִיד עַל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל. חוָאֶהְיֶה עִמְּךָ בְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר הָלַכְתָּ וָאַכְרִית אֶת כָּל אוֹיְבֶיךָ מִפָּנֶיךָ; וְעָשִׂיתִי לְךָ שֵׁם כְּשֵׁם הַגְּדוֹלִים אֲשֶׁר בָּאָרֶץ. טוְשַׂמְתִּי מָקוֹם לְעַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּנְטַעְתִּיהוּ וְשָׁכַן תַּחְתָּיו וְלֹא יִרְגַּז עוֹד; וְלֹא יוֹסִיפוּ בְנֵי עַוְלָה לְבַלֹּתוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה. יוּלְמִיָּמִים אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי שֹׁפְטִים עַל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהִכְנַעְתִּי אֶת כָּל אוֹיְבֶיךָ; וָאַגִּד לָךְ וּבַיִת יִבְנֶה לְּךָ יהוה . יאוְהָיָה כִּי מָלְאוּ יָמֶיךָ לָלֶכֶת עִם אֲבֹתֶיךָ וַהֲקִימוֹתִי אֶת זַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה מִבָּנֶיךָ; וַהֲכִינוֹתִי אֶת מַלְכוּתוֹ. יבהוּא יִבְנֶה לִּי בָּיִת; וְכֹנַנְתִּי אֶת כִּסְאוֹ עַד עוֹלָם. יגאֲנִי אֶהְיֶה לּוֹ לְאָב וְהוּא יִהְיֶה לִּי לְבֵן; וְחַסְדִּי לֹא אָסִיר מֵעִמּוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר הֲסִירוֹתִי מֵאֲשֶׁר הָיָה לְפָנֶיךָ. ידוְהַעֲמַדְתִּיהוּ בְּבֵיתִי וּבְמַלְכוּתִי עַד הָעוֹלָם; וְכִסְאוֹ יִהְיֶה נָכוֹן עַד עוֹלָם. טוכְּכֹל הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה וּכְכֹל הֶחָזוֹן הַזֶּה כֵּן דִּבֶּר נָתָן אֶל דָּוִיד.
טזוַיָּבֹא הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִיד וַיֵּשֶׁב לִפְנֵי יהוה ; וַיֹּאמֶר מִי אֲנִי יהוה אֱלֹהִים וּמִי בֵיתִי כִּי הֲבִיאֹתַנִי עַד הֲלֹם. יזוַתִּקְטַן זֹאת בְּעֵינֶיךָ אֱלֹהִים וַתְּדַבֵּר עַל בֵּית עַבְדְּךָ לְמֵרָחוֹק; וּרְאִיתַנִי כְּתוֹר הָאָדָם הַמַּעֲלָה יהוה אֱלֹהִים. יחמַה יּוֹסִיף עוֹד דָּוִיד אֵלֶיךָ לְכָבוֹד אֶת עַבְדֶּךָ; וְאַתָּה אֶת עַבְדְּךָ יָדָעְתָּ. יט יהוה בַּעֲבוּר עַבְדְּךָ וּכְלִבְּךָ עָשִׂיתָ אֵת כָּל הַגְּדוּלָּה הַזֹּאת: לְהֹדִיעַ אֶת כָּל הַגְּדֻלּוֹת. כ יהוה אֵין כָּמוֹךָ וְאֵין אֱלֹהִים זוּלָתֶךָ בְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְנוּ בְּאָזְנֵינוּ. כאוּמִי כְּעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל גּוֹי אֶחָד בָּאָרֶץ: אֲשֶׁר הָלַךְ הָאֱלֹהִים לִפְדּוֹת לוֹ עָם לָשׂוּם לְךָ שֵׁם גְּדֻלּוֹת וְנֹרָאוֹת לְגָרֵשׁ מִפְּנֵי עַמְּךָ אֲשֶׁר פָּדִיתָ מִמִּצְרַיִם גּוֹיִם. כבוַתִּתֵּן אֶת עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל לְךָ לְעָם עַד עוֹלָם; וְאַתָּה יהוה הָיִיתָ לָהֶם לֵאלֹהִים. כגוְעַתָּה יהוה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ עַל עַבְדְּךָ וְעַל בֵּיתוֹ יֵאָמֵן עַד עוֹלָם; וַעֲשֵׂה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ. כדוְיֵאָמֵן וְיִגְדַּל שִׁמְךָ עַד עוֹלָם לֵאמֹר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֱלֹהִים לְיִשְׂרָאֵל; וּבֵית דָּוִיד עַבְדְּךָ נָכוֹן לְפָנֶיךָ. כהכִּי אַתָּה אֱלֹהַי גָּלִיתָ אֶת אֹזֶן עַבְדְּךָ לִבְנוֹת לוֹ בָּיִת; עַל כֵּן מָצָא עַבְדְּךָ לְהִתְפַּלֵּל לְפָנֶיךָ. כווְעַתָּה יהוה אַתָּה הוּא הָאֱלֹהִים; וַתְּדַבֵּר עַל עַבְדְּךָ הַטּוֹבָה הַזֹּאת. כזוְעַתָּה הוֹאַלְתָּ לְבָרֵךְ אֶת בֵּית עַבְדְּךָ לִהְיוֹת לְעוֹלָם לְפָנֶיךָ: כִּי אַתָּה יהוה בֵּרַכְתָּ וּמְבֹרָךְ לְעוֹלָם.
