¹Now David was old and full of days; and he made Shlomo his son king over Yisra’el. ²And he gathered together all the princes of Yisra’el, with the Kohanim and the Levi’im. ³And the Levi’im were numbered from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. ⁴Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of Beit  יהוה ; and six thousand were officers and judges; ⁵and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised  יהוה  “with the instruments which I made to praise therewith.”  ⁶And David divided them into courses according to the B’nei Levi: Gershon, Kehat, and Merari.  ⁷Of the Gershuni: Ladan, and Shimei.  ⁸The sons of Ladan: Yekhi’el the chief, and Zetam, and Yo’el, three.  ⁹The sons of Shimei: Shelomit, and Khazi’el, and Kharan, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ houses of Ladan.  ¹⁰And the sons of Shimei: Yakhat, Zina, and Ye’ush, and Beri’ah. These four were the sons of Shimei. ¹¹And Yakhat was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Ye’ush and Beri’ah had not many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.  ¹²The sons of Kehat: Amram, Yitz’har, Khevron, and Uzi’el, four.  ¹³The sons of Amram: Aharon and Moshe; and Aharon was separated, that he should be consecrated as Kodesh Kadashim, he and his sons forever, to offer before  יהוה , to minister unto Him, and to bless in His Name forever. ¹⁴But as for Moshe the man of Elohim, his sons are named among the tribe of Levi.  ¹⁵The sons of Moshe: Gershom, and Eli’ezer. ¹⁶The sons of Gershom: Shevu’el the chief.  ¹⁷And the sons of Eli’ezer  were  Rekhav–Yah the chief. And Eli’ezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rekhav-Yah were very many.  ¹⁸The sons of Yitz’har: Shelomit the chief. ¹⁹The sons of Khevron: Yeri-Yahu the chief, Amar-Yah the second, Yakhazi’el the third, and Yekam’am the fourth. ²⁰The sons of Uzi’el: Mikhah the chief, and Yishi-Yah the second. ²¹The sons of Merari: Makhli, and Mushi. The sons of Makhli: Elazar, and Kish. ²²And Elazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only; and their brethren the sons of Kish took them to wife. ²³The sons of Mushi: Makhli, and Eder, and Yeremot, three.  ²⁴These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses, according to their muster, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of Beit  יהוה , from twenty years old and upward. ²⁵For David said, ” יהוה  Elohei Yisra’el, has given rest unto His people, and He dwells in Yerushalayim forever; ²⁶and also the Levi’im shall no more have need to carry the Mishkan and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.” ²⁷For by the last ordinances of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward. ²⁸For their station was at the side of the sons of Aharon for the service of Beit  יהוה , in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all consecrated things, even the work of the service of Beit HaElohim; ²⁹for the Lekhem HaMa’arekhet also, and for the fine flour for a Minkhah, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked on the griddle, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size; ³⁰and to stand every morning to thank and praise  יהוה , and likewise at evening; ³¹and to offer all Olot unto  יהוה , on the Shabbatot, on the khadashim, and in the Mo’edim, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually, before  יהוה ; and³² that they should keep the charge of the Ohel Mo’ed, and the charge of the consecrated place, and the charge of the sons of Aharon their brethren, for the service of Beit  יהוה .

^אוְדָוִיד זָקֵן וְשָׂבַע יָמִים; וַיַּמְלֵךְ אֶת שְׁלֹמֹה בְנוֹ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל. ^בוַיֶּאֱסֹף אֶת כָּל שָׂרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם. ^גוַיִּסָּפְרוּ הַלְוִיִּם מִבֶּן שְׁלֹשִׁים שָׁנָה וָמָעְלָה; וַיְהִי מִסְפָּרָם לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָם לִגְבָרִים שְׁלֹשִׁים וּשְׁמוֹנָה אָלֶף. ^דמֵאֵלֶּה לְנַצֵּחַ עַל מְלֶאכֶת בֵּית יהוה עֶשְׂרִים וְאַרְבָּעָה אָלֶף; וְשֹׁטְרִים וְשֹׁפְטִים שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים. ^הוְאַרְבַּעַת אֲלָפִים שֹׁעֲרִים; וְאַרְבַּעַת אֲלָפִים מְהַלְלִים לַיהוה בַּכֵּלִים אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי לְהַלֵּל. ^ווַיֶּחָלְקֵם דָּוִיד מַחְלְקוֹת; לִבְנֵי לֵוִי לְגֵרְשׁוֹן קְהָת וּמְרָרִי. ^זלַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי לַעְדָּן וְשִׁמְעִי. ^חבְּנֵי לַעְדָּן הָרֹאשׁ יְחִיאֵל וְזֵתָם וְיוֹאֵל שְׁלֹשָׁה. ^טבְּנֵי שִׁמְעִי שלמות (שְׁלֹמִית) וַחֲזִיאֵל וְהָרָן שְׁלֹשָׁה; אֵלֶּה רָאשֵׁי הָאָבוֹת לְלַעְדָּן. ^יוּבְנֵי שִׁמְעִי יַחַת זִינָא וִיעוּשׁ וּבְרִיעָה; אֵלֶּה בְנֵי שִׁמְעִי אַרְבָּעָה. ^יאוַיְהִי יַחַת הָרֹאשׁ וְזִיזָה הַשֵּׁנִי; וִיעוּשׁ וּבְרִיעָה לֹא הִרְבּוּ בָנִים וַיִּהְיוּ לְבֵית אָב לִפְקֻדָּה אֶחָת. ^יבבְּנֵי קְהָת עַמְרָם יִצְהָר חֶבְרוֹן וְעֻזִּיאֵל אַרְבָּעָה. ^יגבְּנֵי עַמְרָם אַהֲרֹן וּמֹשֶׁה; וַיִּבָּדֵל אַהֲרֹן לְהַקְדִּישׁוֹ קֹדֶשׁ קָדָשִׁים הוּא וּבָנָיו עַד עוֹלָם לְהַקְטִיר לִפְנֵי יהוה לְשָׁרְתוֹ וּלְבָרֵךְ בִּשְׁמוֹ עַד עוֹלָם. ^ידוּמֹשֶׁה אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים בָּנָיו יִקָּרְאוּ עַל שֵׁבֶט הַלֵּוִי. ^טובְּנֵי מֹשֶׁה גֵּרְשׁוֹם וֶאֱלִיעֶזֶר.  ^טזבְּנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹם שְׁבוּאֵל הָרֹאשׁ.  ^יזוַיִּהְיוּ בְנֵי אֱלִיעֶזֶר רְחַבְיָה הָרֹאשׁ;  וְלֹא  הָיָה לֶאֱלִיעֶזֶר בָּנִים אֲחֵרִים וּבְנֵי רְחַבְיָה רָבוּ לְמָעְלָה. ^יחבְּנֵי יִצְהָר שְׁלֹמִית הָרֹאשׁ. ^יטבְּנֵי חֶבְרוֹן יְרִיָּהוּ הָרֹאשׁ אֲמַרְיָה הַשֵּׁנִי יַחֲזִיאֵל הַשְּׁלִישִׁי וִיקַמְעָם הָרְבִיעִי. ^כבְּנֵי עֻזִּיאֵל מִיכָה הָרֹאשׁ וְיִשִּׁיָּה הַשֵּׁנִי. ^כאבְּנֵי מְרָרִי מַחְלִי וּמוּשִׁי בְּנֵי מַחְלִי אֶלְעָזָר וְקִישׁ. ^כבוַיָּמָת אֶלְעָזָר וְלֹא הָיוּ לוֹ בָּנִים כִּי אִם בָּנוֹת; וַיִּשָּׂאוּם בְּנֵי קִישׁ אֲחֵיהֶם. ^כגבְּנֵי מוּשִׁי מַחְלִי וְעֵדֶר וִירֵמוֹת שְׁלוֹשָׁה. ^כדאֵלֶּה בְנֵי לֵוִי לְבֵית אֲבוֹתֵיהֶם רָאשֵׁי הָאָבוֹת לִפְקוּדֵיהֶם בְּמִסְפַּר שֵׁמוֹת לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָם עֹשֵׂה הַמְּלָאכָה לַעֲבֹדַת בֵּית יהוה מִבֶּן עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה וָמָעְלָה. ^כהכִּי אָמַר דָּוִיד הֵנִיחַ יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְעַמּוֹ; וַיִּשְׁכֹּן בִּירוּשָׁלִַם עַד לְעוֹלָם. ^כווְגַם לַלְוִיִּם אֵין לָשֵׂאת אֶת הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְאֶת כָּל כֵּלָיו לַעֲבֹדָתוֹ. ^כזכִּי בְדִבְרֵי דָוִיד הָאַחֲרוֹנִים הֵמָּה מִסְפַּר בְּנֵי לֵוִי מִבֶּן עֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה וּלְמָעְלָה. ^כחכִּי מַעֲמָדָם לְיַד בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן לַעֲבֹדַת בֵּית יהוה עַל הַחֲצֵרוֹת וְעַל הַלְּשָׁכוֹת וְעַל טָהֳרַת לְכָל קֹדֶשׁ וּמַעֲשֵׂה עֲבֹדַת בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים. ^כטוּלְלֶחֶם הַמַּעֲרֶכֶת וּלְסֹלֶת לְמִנְחָה וְלִרְקִיקֵי הַמַּצּוֹת וְלַמַּחֲבַת וְלַמֻּרְבָּכֶת; וּלְכָל מְשׂוּרָה וּמִדָּה. ^לוְלַעֲמֹד בַּבֹּקֶר בַּבֹּקֶר לְהֹדוֹת וּלְהַלֵּל לַיהוה ; וְכֵן לָעָרֶב. ^לאוּלְכֹל הַעֲלוֹת עֹלוֹת לַיהוה לַשַּׁבָּתוֹת לֶחֳדָשִׁים וְלַמֹּעֲדִים בְּמִסְפָּר כְּמִשְׁפָּט עֲלֵיהֶם תָּמִיד לִפְנֵי יהוה . ^לבוְשָׁמְרוּ אֶת מִשְׁמֶרֶת אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְאֵת מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַקֹּדֶשׁ וּמִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן אֲחֵיהֶם לַעֲבֹדַת בֵּית יהוה .
