1Now B’nei Yisra’el after their number, to wit, the heads of fathers’ houses and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers that served HaMelekh, in any matter of the courses which came in and went out khodesh by khodesh throughout all the khadashim of the year, of every course were twenty-four thousand.
2Over the first course for the first khodesh was Yashavam Ben Zavdi’el; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 3Of the children Peretz was he, and the chief of all the captains of the host for the first khodesh. 4And over the course of the second khodesh was Dodai the Akhokhi, and his course, and Miklot the ruler; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 5The third captain of the host for the third khodesh was Bena-Yahu Ben Yehoyada, the Kohen, chief; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 6This is that Bena-Yahu, who was the mighty man of the thirty, and over the thirty; and of his course was Amizavad his son. 7The fourth captain for the fourth khodesh was Asahel the brother of Yo’av, and Zevad-Yah his son after him; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 8The fifth captain for the fifth khodesh was Shamhut HaYizrakh; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 9The sixth captain for the sixth khodesh was Ira Ben Ikesh the Teko’i; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 10The seventh captain for the seventh khodesh was Khaletz the Peloni, of the children of Efrayim; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 11The eighth captain for the eighth khodesh was Sibekhai the Khushati, of the Zerakhi; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 12The ninth captain for the ninth khodesh was Avi’ezer HaAnatoti, of the Binyamini; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 13The tenth captain for the tenth khodesh was Makhrai, HaNetofati, of the Zerakhi; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 14The eleventh captain for the eleventh khodesh was Bena-Yah the Piratoni, of the children of Efrayim; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. 15The twelfth captain for the twelfth khodesh was Kheldai HaNetofati, of Otni’el; and in his course were twenty-four thousand.
16Furthermore, over the tribes of Yisra’el: of the Ruveni was Eli’ezer Ben Zikhri the ruler; of the Shimoni, Shefat-Yah Ben Ma’akhah; 17of Levi, Khashav-Yah Ben Kemuel; of Aharon, Tzadok; 18of Yehudah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David; of Yisakhar, Omri Ben Mikha’el; 19of Zevulun, Yishma-Yahu Ben Ovad-Yah; of Naftali, Yerimot Ben Azriel; 20of the children of Efrayim, Hoshe’ah Ben Azaz-Yahu; of half the tribe of Menasheh, Yo’el Ben Peda-Yah; 21of half the tribe of Menasheh in Gilad, Ido Ben Zekhar-Yah; of Binyamin, Ya’asi’el Ben Avner; 22of Dan, Azarel Ben Yerokham. These were the captains of the tribes of Yisra’el. 23But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under; because יהוה had said He would increase Yisra’el like to the stars of heaven. 24Yo’av Ben Tzeru-Yah began to number, but finished not; and there came wrath for this upon Yisra’el; neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of Melekh David. 25And over the Melekh’s treasuries was Azmavet Ben Adi’el; and over the treasuries in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers, was Yehonatan Ben Uzi-Yah; 26and over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri Ben Keluv; 27and over the vineyards was Shimei HaRamati; and over the increase of the vineyards for the wine-cellars was Zavdi the Shifmi; 28and over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the Lowland was Ba’al Khanan the Gederi; and over the cellars of oil was Yo’ash; 29and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shirtai the Sharoni; and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shafat Ben Adlai; 30and over the camels was Ovil the Yishma’eli; and over the donkeys was Yekhde-Yahu the Meronoti; 31and over the flocks was Yaziz the Hagri. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David’s. 32Also Yehonatan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a man of understanding, and a scribe; and Yekhi’el Ben Khakhmoni was with the sons of HaMelekh; 33and Ahitofel was the counsellor of HaMelekh; and Khushai the Arki was the friend of HaMelekh; 34and after Ahitofel was Yehoyada Ben Bena-Yahu, and Evyatar; and the captain of the host of HaMelekh was Yo’av.
