1So all Yisra’el were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they are written in the book of the Malkhei Yisra’el; and Yehudah was carried away captive to Bavel because of their transgression. 2Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, Yisra’el, the Konahim, the Levi’im, and the Netinim. 3And in Yerushalayim dwelt of B’nei Yehudah, and of B’nei Binyamin, and of B’nei Efrayim and Menasheh: 4Utai Ben Amihud, Ben Omri, Ben Imri, Ben Bani, of the children of Peretz Ben Yehudah. 5And of the Shiloni: Asa-Yah the first-born and his sons. 6And of the sons of Zarakh: Ye’u’el, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. 7And of the sons of Binyamin: Salu Ben Meshulam, Ben Hodav-Yahu, Ben Hasenu’ah, 8and Yivne-Yah Ben Yerokham, and Elah Ben Uzi, Ben Mikhri, and Meshulam Ben Shefat-Yah, Ben Re’u’el, Ben Yivne-Yah; 9and their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these men were heads of fathers’ houses by their fathers’ houses. 10And of the Kohanim: Yeda-Yah, and Yehoyariv, and Yakhin; 11and Azar-Yah Ben Khilki-Yah, Ben Meshulam, Ben Tzadok, Ben Merayot, Ben Akhituv, the ruler of Beit HaElohim; 12and Ada-Yah Ben Yerokham, Ben Pash’hur, Ben Malkhi-Yah, and Ma’asai Ben Adi’el, Ben Yakhzerah, Ben Meshulam, Ben Meshilemit, Ben Imer; 13and their brethren, heads of their fathers’ houses, a thousand and seven hundred and sixty; very able men for the work of the service of Beit HaElohim. 14And of the Levi’im: Shema-Yah Ben Khashuv, Ben Azrikam, Ben Khashav-Yah, of the sons of Merari; 15and Bakbakar, Kheresh, and Galal, and Matan-Yah Ben Mikhah, Ben Zikhri, Ben Asaf; 16and Ovad-Yah Ben Shema-Yah, Ben Galal, Ben Yedutun, and Berekh-Yah Ben Asa, Ben Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netofati. 17And the porters: Shalum, and Akuv, and Talmon, and Akhiman, and their brother Shalum the chief; 18who hitherto waited in the king’s gate eastward; they were the porters for the camp of B’nei Levi. 19And Shalum Ben Kore, Ben Evyasaf, Ben Korakh, and his brethren, of his father’s house, the Korkhim, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the Ohel; and their fathers had been over the camp of יהוה , keepers of the entry; 20and Pinkhas Ben Elazar was ruler over them in time past, יהוה being with him. 21Zekhar-Yah Ben Meshelem-Yah was porter of the door of the Ohel Mo’ed. 22All these that were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Shmu’el HaRo’eh did ordain in their set office. 23So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of Beit יהוה , even Beit HaOhel, by wards. 24On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south. 25And their brethren, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them; 26for the four chief porters were in a set office. These were the Levi’im. They were also over the chambers and over the treasuries in Beit HaElohim. 27And they lodged round about Beit HaElohim, because the charge thereof was upon them, and to them pertained the opening thereof morning by morning. 28And certain of them had charge of the vessels of service; for by tale were they brought in and by tale were they taken out. 29Some of them also were appointed over the furnishings, and over all the consecrated vessels, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. 30And some of the sons of the Kohanim prepared the confection of the spices. 31And Matit-Yah, one of the Levi’im, who was the firstborn of Shalum the Korkhi, had the set office over the things that were baked on griddles. 32And some of their brethren, of the sons of the Kehati, were over the Lekhem HaMa’arakhet, to prepare it every Shabbat. 33And these are the singers, heads of fathers’ houses of the Levi’im, who dwelt in the chambers and were free from other service; for they were employed in their work day and night. 34These were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levi’im, by their generations, chief men; these dwelt at Yerushalayim. 35And in Givon there dwelt the father of Givon, Ye’iyel, whose wife’s name was Ma’akhah; 36and his first-born son Avdon, and Tzur, and Kish, and Ba’al, and Ner, and Nadav; 37and Gedor, and Akhiyo, and Zekhar-Yah, and Miklot. 38And Miklot begot Shime’am. And they also dwelt with their brethren in Yerushalayim, over against their brethren. 39And Ner begot Kish; and Kish begot Sha’ul; and Sha’ul begot Yehonatan, and Malkhi Shu’ah, and Avinadav, and Eshba’al. 40And the son of Yehonatan was Meriv Ba’al; and Meriv Ba’al begot Mikhah. 41And the sons of Mikhah: Piton, and Melekh, and Takhare’a [and Akhaz]. 42And Akhaz begot Yarah; and Yarah begot Alemet, and Azmavet, and Zimri; and Zimri begot Motza. 43And Motza begot Bine’a; and Refah-Yah his son, El’asah his son, Azel his son. 44And Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bokhru, and Yishma’el, and She’ar-Yah, and Ovad-Yah, and Khanan; these were the sons of Azel.
