1And Yehoshafat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Yisra’el. 2And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Yehudah, and set garrisons in the land of Yehudah, and in the cities of Efrayim, which Asa his father had taken. 3And יהוה was with Yehoshafat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Ba’alim; 4but sought to the Elohim of his father, and walked in His Mitzvot, and not after the doings of Yisra’el. 5Therefore יהוה established the kingdom in his hand; and all Yehudah brought to Yehoshafat presents; and he had riches and honor in abundance. 6And his heart was lifted up in the ways of יהוה ; and furthermore he took away the high places and the Asherim out of Yehudah.
7Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben Khayil, and Ovad-Yah, and Zekhar-Yah, and Netanel, and Mikhah-Yahu, to teach in the cities of Yehudah; 8and with them the Levi’im, even Shema-Yah, and Netan-Yah, and Zevad-Yah, and Asahel, and Shemiramot, and Yehonatan, and Adoni-Yah, and Tovi-yah, and Tov Adoni-Yah, the Levi’im; and with them Elishama and Yehoram, the Kohanim. 9And they taught in Yehudah, having the Sefer Torah יהוה with them; and they went about throughout all the cities of Yehudah, and taught among the people. 10And a terror from יהוה fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Yehudah, so that they made no war against Yehoshafat. 11And some of the P’lishtim brought Yehoshafat presents, and silver for tribute; the Aravim also brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats.
12And Yehoshafat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Yehudah castles and cities of store. 13And he had many works in the cities of Yehudah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Yerushalayim. 14And this was the numbering of them according to their fathers’ houses: of Yehudah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand; 15and next to him Yehokhanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand; 16and next to him Amas-Yah Ben Zikhri, who willingly offered himself unto יהוה , and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor; 17and of Binyamin: Eli’ada a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield; 18and next to him Yehozahav, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready, prepared for war. 19These were they that waited on HaMelekh beside those whom HaMelekh put in the fortified cities throughout all Yehudah.
אוַיִּמְלֹךְ יְהוֹשָׁפָט בְּנוֹ תַּחְתָּיו; וַיִּתְחַזֵּק עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל. בוַיִּתֶּן חַיִל בְּכָל עָרֵי יְהוּדָה הַבְּצֻרוֹת; וַיִּתֵּן נְצִיבִים בְּאֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה וּבְעָרֵי אֶפְרַיִם אֲשֶׁר לָכַד אָסָא אָבִיו. גוַיְהִי יהוה עִם יְהוֹשָׁפָט: כִּי הָלַךְ בְּדַרְכֵי דָּוִיד אָבִיו הָרִאשֹׁנִים וְלֹא דָרַשׁ לַבְּעָלִים. דכִּי לֵאלֹהֵי אָבִיו דָּרָשׁ וּבְמִצְוֹתָיו הָלָךְ; וְלֹא כְּמַעֲשֵׂה יִשְׂרָאֵל. הוַיָּכֶן יהוה אֶת הַמַּמְלָכָה בְּיָדוֹ וַיִּתְּנוּ כָל יְהוּדָה מִנְחָה לִיהוֹשָׁפָט; וַיְהִי לוֹ עֹשֶׁר וְכָבוֹד לָרֹב. ווַיִּגְבַּהּ לִבּוֹ בְּדַרְכֵי יהוה ; וְעוֹד הֵסִיר אֶת הַבָּמוֹת וְאֶת הָאֲשֵׁרִים מִיהוּדָה.
זוּבִשְׁנַת שָׁלוֹשׁ לְמָלְכוֹ שָׁלַח לְשָׂרָיו לְבֶן חַיִל וּלְעֹבַדְיָה וְלִזְכַרְיָה וְלִנְתַנְאֵל וּלְמִיכָיָהוּ לְלַמֵּד בְּעָרֵי יְהוּדָה. חוְעִמָּהֶם הַלְוִיִּם שְׁמַעְיָהוּ וּנְתַנְיָהוּ וּזְבַדְיָהוּ וַעֲשָׂהאֵל ושמרימות (וּשְׁמִירָמוֹת) וִיהוֹנָתָן וַאֲדֹנִיָּהוּ וְטוֹבִיָּהוּ וְטוֹב אֲדוֹנִיָּה הַלְוִיִּם; וְעִמָּהֶם אֱלִישָׁמָע וִיהוֹרָם הַכֹּהֲנִים. טוַיְלַמְּדוּ בִּיהוּדָה וְעִמָּהֶם סֵפֶר תּוֹרַת יהוה ; וַיָּסֹבּוּ בְּכָל עָרֵי יְהוּדָה וַיְלַמְּדוּ בָּעָם. יוַיְהִי פַּחַד יהוה עַל כָּל מַמְלְכוֹת הָאֲרָצוֹת אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבוֹת יְהוּדָה; וְלֹא נִלְחֲמוּ עִם יְהוֹשָׁפָט. יאוּמִן פְּלִשְׁתִּים מְבִיאִים לִיהוֹשָׁפָט מִנְחָה וְכֶסֶף מַשָּׂא; גַּם הָעַרְבִיאִים מְבִיאִים לוֹ צֹאן אֵילִים שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת וּתְיָשִׁים שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים וּשְׁבַע מֵאוֹת.
יבוַיְהִי יְהוֹשָׁפָט הֹלֵךְ וְגָדֵל עַד לְמָעְלָה; וַיִּבֶן בִּיהוּדָה בִּירָנִיּוֹת וְעָרֵי מִסְכְּנוֹת. יגוּמְלָאכָה רַבָּה הָיָה לוֹ בְּעָרֵי יְהוּדָה; וְאַנְשֵׁי מִלְחָמָה גִּבּוֹרֵי חַיִל בִּירוּשָׁלִָם. ידוְאֵלֶּה פְקֻדָּתָם לְבֵית אֲבוֹתֵיהֶם: לִיהוּדָה שָׂרֵי אֲלָפִים עַדְנָה הַשָּׂר וְעִמּוֹ גִּבּוֹרֵי חַיִל שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת אָלֶף. טווְעַל יָדוֹ יְהוֹחָנָן הַשָּׂר; וְעִמּוֹ מָאתַיִם וּשְׁמוֹנִים אָלֶף. טזוְעַל יָדוֹ עֲמַסְיָה בֶן זִכְרִי הַמִּתְנַדֵּב לַיהוה ; וְעִמּוֹ מָאתַיִם אֶלֶף גִּבּוֹר חָיִל. יזוּמִן בִּנְיָמִן גִּבּוֹר חַיִל אֶלְיָדָע; וְעִמּוֹ נֹשְׁקֵי קֶשֶׁת וּמָגֵן מָאתַיִם אָלֶף. יחוְעַל יָדוֹ יְהוֹזָבָד; וְעִמּוֹ מֵאָה וּשְׁמוֹנִים אֶלֶף חֲלוּצֵי צָבָא. יטאֵלֶּה הַמְשָׁרְתִים אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ: מִלְּבַד אֲשֶׁר נָתַן הַמֶּלֶךְ בְּעָרֵי הַמִּבְצָר בְּכָל יְהוּדָה.
