1And in the seventh year Yehoyada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azar-Yah Ben Yerokham, and Yishma’el Ben Yehokhanan, and Azar-Yah Ben Oved, and Ma’asei-Yahu Ben Ada-Yahu, and Elishafat Ben Zikhri, into covenant with him. 2And they went about in Yehudah, and gathered the Levi’im out of all the cities of Yehudah, and the heads of fathers’ houses of Yisra’el, and they came to Yerushalayim. 3And all the congregation made a covenant with HaMelekh in Beit HaElohim. And he said unto them, “Behold, the son of HaMelekh shall reign, as יהוה has spoken concerning the B’nei David. 4This is the thing that you shall do: a third part of you, that come in on the Shabbat, of the Kohanim and of the Levi’im, shall be porters of the doors; 5and a third part shall be at the house of HaMelekh; and a third part at the gate of the foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of Beit יהוה . But6 let none come into Beit יהוה , save the Kohanim, and they that minister of the Levi’im; they shall come in, for they are kadosh; but all the people shall keep the charge of יהוה . And7 the Levi’im shall encompass HaMelekh round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever comes into the house, let him be slain; and be with HaMelekh when he comes in, and when he goes out.” 8So the Levi’im and all Yehudah did according to all that Yehoyada the Kohen commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the Shabbat, with those that were to go out on the Shabbat; for Yehoyada the Kohen dismissed not the courses. 9And Yehoyada the Kohen delivered to the captains of hundreds the spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been Melekh David’s, which were in Beit HaElohim. 10And he set all the people, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the Mizbe’akh and the house, by HaMelekh round about. 11Then they brought out the son of HaMelekh, and put upon him the crown and the insignia, and made him Melekh; and Yehoyada and his sons anointed him; and they said, “Long live HaMelekh.” 12And when Atal-Yah heard the noise of the people running and praising HaMelekh, she came to the people into Beit יהוה ; and13 she looked, and, behold, HaMelekh stood on his platform at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpets by HaMelekh; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets; the singers also [played] on instruments of music, and led the singing of praise. Then Atal-Yah rent her clothes, and said, “Treason, treason!” 14And Yehoyada the Kohen brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, “Have her forth between the ranks; and whoever follows her, let him be slain with the sword’; for the Kohen said, “Slay her not in Beit יהוה .” So15 they made way for her; and she went to the entry of the horse gate to the house of HaMelekh; and they slew her there.
16And Yehoyada made a covenant between himself, and all the people, and HaMelekh, that they should be the people of יהוה . And17 all the people went to the house of Ba’al, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Matan the priest of Ba’al before the altars. 18And Yehoyada appointed the offices of Beit יהוה under the hand of the Kohanim the Levi’im, whom David had distributed in Beit יהוה , to offer the Olot of יהוה , as it is written in the Torah of Moshe, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the direction of David. 19And he set the porters at the gates of Beit יהוה , that none that was unclean in any thing should enter in. 20And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down HaMelekh from Beit יהוה ; and they came through the upper gate unto the house of HaMelekh, and set HaMelekh upon the throne of the kingdom. 21So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; and they slew Atal-Yah with the sword.
אוּבַשָּׁנָה הַשְּׁבִעִית הִתְחַזַּק יְהוֹיָדָע וַיִּקַּח אֶת שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת לַעֲזַרְיָהוּ בֶן יְרֹחָם וּלְיִשְׁמָעֵאל בֶּן יְהוֹחָנָן וְלַעֲזַרְיָהוּ בֶן עוֹבֵד וְאֶת מַעֲשֵׂיָהוּ בֶן עֲדָיָהוּ וְאֶת אֱלִישָׁפָט בֶּן זִכְרִי עִמּוֹ בַבְּרִית. בוַיָּסֹבּוּ בִּיהוּדָה וַיִּקְבְּצוּ אֶת הַלְוִיִּם מִכָּל עָרֵי יְהוּדָה וְרָאשֵׁי הָאָבוֹת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶל יְרוּשָׁלִָם. גוַיִּכְרֹת כָּל הַקָּהָל בְּרִית בְּבֵית הָאֱלֹהִים עִם הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם הִנֵּה בֶן הַמֶּלֶךְ יִמְלֹךְ כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה עַל בְּנֵי דָוִיד. דזֶה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשׂוּ: הַשְּׁלִשִׁית מִכֶּם בָּאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת לַכֹּהֲנִים וְלַלְוִיִּם לְשֹׁעֲרֵי הַסִּפִּים. הוְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית בְּבֵית הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁית בְּשַׁעַר הַיְסוֹד; וְכָל הָעָם בְּחַצְרוֹת בֵּית יהוה . ווְאַל יָבוֹא בֵית יהוה כִּי אִם הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַמְשָׁרְתִים לַלְוִיִּם הֵמָּה יָבֹאוּ כִּי קֹדֶשׁ הֵמָּה; וְכָל הָעָם יִשְׁמְרוּ מִשְׁמֶרֶת יהוה . זוְהִקִּיפוּ הַלְוִיִּם אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ סָבִיב אִישׁ וְכֵלָיו בְּיָדוֹ וְהַבָּא אֶל הַבַּיִת יוּמָת; וִהְיוּ אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ בְּבֹאוֹ וּבְצֵאתוֹ. חוַיַּעֲשׂוּ הַלְוִיִּם וְכָל יְהוּדָה כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן וַיִּקְחוּ אִישׁ אֶת אֲנָשָׁיו בָּאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת עִם יוֹצְאֵי הַשַּׁבָּת: כִּי לֹא פָטַר יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן אֶת הַמַּחְלְקוֹת. טוַיִּתֵּן יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן לְשָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת אֶת הַחֲנִיתִים וְאֶת הַמָּגִנּוֹת וְאֶת הַשְּׁלָטִים אֲשֶׁר לַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִיד אֲשֶׁר בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים. יוַיַּעֲמֵד אֶת כָּל הָעָם וְאִישׁ שִׁלְחוֹ בְיָדוֹ מִכֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַיְמָנִית עַד כֶּתֶף הַבַּיִת הַשְּׂמָאלִית לַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְלַבָּיִת עַל הַמֶּלֶךְ סָבִיב. יאוַיּוֹצִיאוּ אֶת בֶּן הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיִּתְּנוּ עָלָיו אֶת הַנֵּזֶר וְאֶת הָעֵדוּת וַיַּמְלִיכוּ אֹתוֹ; וַיִּמְשָׁחֻהוּ יְהוֹיָדָע וּבָנָיו וַיֹּאמְרוּ יְחִי הַמֶּלֶךְ. יבוַתִּשְׁמַע עֲתַלְיָהוּ אֶת קוֹל הָעָם הָרָצִים וְהַמְהַלְלִים אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַתָּבוֹא אֶל הָעָם בֵּית יהוה . יגוַתֵּרֶא וְהִנֵּה הַמֶּלֶךְ עוֹמֵד עַל עַמּוּדוֹ בַּמָּבוֹא וְהַשָּׂרִים וְהַחֲצֹצְרוֹת עַל הַמֶּלֶךְ וְכָל עַם הָאָרֶץ שָׂמֵחַ וְתוֹקֵעַ בַּחֲצֹצְרוֹת וְהַמְשׁוֹרְרִים בִּכְלֵי הַשִּׁיר וּמוֹדִיעִים לְהַלֵּל; וַתִּקְרַע עֲתַלְיָהוּ אֶת בְּגָדֶיהָ וַתֹּאמֶר קֶשֶׁר קָשֶׁר. ידוַיּוֹצֵא יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן אֶת שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת פְּקוּדֵי הַחַיִל וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם הוֹצִיאוּהָ אֶל מִבֵּית הַשְּׂדֵרוֹת וְהַבָּא אַחֲרֶיהָ יוּמַת בֶּחָרֶב: כִּי אָמַר הַכֹּהֵן לֹא תְמִיתוּהָ בֵּית יהוה . טווַיָּשִׂימוּ לָהּ יָדַיִם וַתָּבוֹא אֶל מְבוֹא שַׁעַר הַסּוּסִים בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַיְמִיתוּהָ שָׁם.
טזוַיִּכְרֹת יְהוֹיָדָע בְּרִית בֵּינוֹ וּבֵין כָּל הָעָם וּבֵין הַמֶּלֶךְ: לִהְיוֹת לְעָם לַיהוה . יזוַיָּבֹאוּ כָל הָעָם בֵּית הַבַּעַל וַיִּתְּצֻהוּ וְאֶת מִזְבְּחֹתָיו וְאֶת צְלָמָיו שִׁבֵּרוּ; וְאֵת מַתָּן כֹּהֵן הַבַּעַל הָרְגוּ לִפְנֵי הַמִּזְבְּחוֹת. יחוַיָּשֶׂם יְהוֹיָדָע פְּקֻדּוֹת בֵּית יהוה בְּיַד הַכֹּהֲנִים הַלְוִיִּם אֲשֶׁר חָלַק דָּוִיד עַל בֵּית יהוה לְהַעֲלוֹת עֹלוֹת יהוה כַּכָּתוּב בְּתוֹרַת מֹשֶׁה בְּשִׂמְחָה וּבְשִׁיר עַל יְדֵי דָוִיד. יטוַיַּעֲמֵד הַשּׁוֹעֲרִים עַל שַׁעֲרֵי בֵּית יהוה ; וְלֹא יָבוֹא טָמֵא לְכָל דָּבָר. כוַיִּקַּח אֶת שָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת וְאֶת הָאַדִּירִים וְאֶת הַמּוֹשְׁלִים בָּעָם וְאֵת כָּל עַם הָאָרֶץ וַיּוֹרֶד אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ מִבֵּית יהוה וַיָּבֹאוּ בְּתוֹךְ שַׁעַר הָעֶלְיוֹן בֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ; וַיּוֹשִׁיבוּ אֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ עַל כִּסֵּא הַמַּמְלָכָה. כאוַיִּשְׂמְחוּ כָל עַם הָאָרֶץ וְהָעִיר שָׁקָטָה; וְאֶת עֲתַלְיָהוּ הֵמִיתוּ בֶחָרֶב.
