Divrei HaYamim Bet 33 – דברי הימים ב פרק לג

t.o.c.

1Menasheh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-five years in Yerushalayim. 2And he did that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה , after the abominations of the nations whom  יהוה  cast out before B’nei Yisra’el. 3For he built again the high places which Khizki-Yahu his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Ba’alim, and made Asherot, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 4And he built altars in Beit  יהוה , whereof  יהוה  said, “In Yerushalayim shall My Name be forever.” 5And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of Beit  יהוה . He6 also made his children to pass through the fire in Gei Ben Hinom; and he practised soothsaying, and used enchantments, and practised sorcery, and appointed them that divined by a ghost or a familiar spirit; he wrought much evil in the sight of  יהוה , to provoke Him. 7And he set the graven image of the idol, which he had made, in Beit HaElohim, of which Elohim said to David and to Shlomo his son, “In this house, and in Yerushalayim, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Yisra’el, will I put My Name forever; 8neither will I any more remove the foot of Yisra’el from off the land which I have appointed for your fathers; if only they will observe to do all that I have commanded them, even all the Torah and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moshe.” 9And Menasheh made Yehudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim to err, so that they did evil more than did the nations, whom  יהוה  destroyed before B’nei Yisra’el.

10And  יהוה  spoke to Menasheh, and to his people; but they gave no heed. 11Therefore  יהוה  brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Ashur, who took Menasheh with hooks, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Bavel. 12And when he was in distress, he besought  יהוה  his Elohim, and humbled himself greatly before the Elohim of his fathers. 13And he prayed unto Him; and He was entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him back to Yerushalayim into his kingdom. Then Menasheh knew that  יהוה , He was Elohim. 14Now after this he built an outer wall to the city of David, on the west side of Gikhon, in the valley, even to the entrance at the fish gate; and he encompassed about Ofel, and raised it up a very great height; and he put captains of the army in all the fortified cities of Yehudah. 15And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of Beit  יהוה , and all the altars that he had built in Har Beit  יהוה , and in Yerushalayim, and cast them out of the city. 16And he built up the Mizbe’akh  יהוה , and offered thereon sacrifices of Sh’lamim and of Todah, and commanded Yehudah to serve  יהוה  Elohei Yisra’el. 17Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, but only unto  יהוה  their Elohim. 18Now the rest of the acts of Menasheh, and his prayer unto his Elohim, and the words of the Khozim that spoke to him in the Name of  יהוה  Elohei Yisra’el, behold, they are written among the acts of the Melakhim of Yisra’el. 19His prayer also, and how [Elohim] was entreated of him, and all his sin and his transgression, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up the Asherim and the graven images, before he humbled himself; behold, they are written in the history of the Khozim. 20So Menasheh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

21Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Yerushalayim. 22And he did that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה , as did Menasheh his father; and Amon sacrificed unto all the graven images which Menasheh his father had made, and served them. 23And he humbled not himself before  יהוה , as Menasheh his father had humbled himself; but this same Amon became guilty more and more. 24And his servants conspired against him, and put him to death in his own house. 25But the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against Melekh Amon; and the people of the land made Yoshi-Yahu his son king in his stead.
