1Then spoke Shlomo ” יהוה has said that He would dwell in the thick darkness. 2But I have built You a house of habitation, and a place for You to dwell in forever.” 3And HaMelekh turned his face, and blessed all the congregation of Yisra’el; and all the congregation of Yisra’el stood. 4And he said, “Blessed is יהוה Elohei Yisra’el, who spoke with His mouth unto David my father, and has with His hands fulfilled it, saying, 5‘Since the day that I brought forth My people out of the land of Mitzrayim, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Yisra’el to build a house in, that My Name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over My people Yisra’el; 6but I have chosen Yerushalayim, that My Name might be there; and have chosen David to be over My people Yisra’el’. 7Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the Name of יהוה Elohei Yisra’el. 8But יהוה said unto David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you did well that it was in your heart; 9nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son that shall come forth out of your loins, he shall build the house for My Name’. 10And יהוה has established His D’var that He spoke; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Yisra’el, as יהוה promised, and have built the house for the Name of יהוה Elohei Yisra’el. 11And there have I set HaAron, wherein is the Brit יהוה , which He made with B’nei Yisra’el.” 12And he stood before the Mizbe’akh of יהוה in the presence of all the congregation of Yisra’el, and spread forth his hands, 13for Shlomo had made a brazen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Yisra’el, and spread forth his hands toward heaven, 14and he said, “O יהוה Elohei Yisra’el, there is no Elohim like You, in the heaven, or in the earth; who keeps a Brit and compassion with Your servants that walk before You with all their heart; 15who have kept with Your servant David my father that which You did promise him; yes, You spoke with Your mouth, and have fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day. 16Now therefore, O יהוה Elohei Yisra’el, keep with Your servant David my father that which You have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in My sight to sit on the throne of Yisra’el; if only your children take heed to their way, to walk in My Torah as you have walked before Me’. 17Now therefore, O יהוה Elohei Yisra’el, let Your word be verified, which You spoke unto Your servant David. 18But will Elohim in very truth dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You; how much less this house which I have built! 19Yet have You respect unto the prayer of Your servant, and to his supplication, O יהוה my Elohim, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which Your servant prays before You; 20that Your eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place whereof You have said that you would put Your Name there; to hearken unto the prayer which Your servant shall pray toward this place. 21And hearken to the supplications of Your servant, and of Your people Yisra’el, when they shall pray toward this place; yes, hear from Your dwelling-place, even from heaven; and when You hear, forgive. 22If a man sins against his neighbor, and an oath is exacted of him to cause him to swear, and he comes and swears before Your Mizbe’akh in this house; 23then hear from heaven, and do, and judge Your servants, requiting the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head; and justifying a Tzadik, to give him according to his righteousness. 24And if Your people Yisra’el are smitten down before the enemy, when they sin against You, and shall turn again and confess Your Name, and pray and make supplication before You in this house; 25then hear from heaven, and forgive the sin of Your people Yisra’el, and bring them back unto the land which You gave to them and to their fathers.”
26“When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, when they sin against You; if they pray toward this place, and confess Your Name, turning from their sin, when You do afflict them; 27then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, and of Your people Yisra’el, when You do direct them on the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon Your land, which You have given to Your people for an inheritance. 28If there is in the land famine, if there is pestilence, if there is blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague or whatsoever sickness there is; 29whatsoever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all Your people Yisra’el, who shall know every man his own plague and his own pain, and shall spread forth his hands toward this house; 30then hear from heaven, Your dwelling-place, and forgive, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart You know, for You, even You only, know the hearts of the children of men, 31that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways, all the days that they live in the land which You gave unto our fathers. 32Moreover, concerning the stranger that is not of Your people Yisra’el, when he shall come out of a far country for Your Great Name’s sake, and Your mighty hand, and Your outstretched arm; when they shall come and pray toward this house; 33then hear from heaven, even from Your dwelling-place, and do according to all that the stranger calls to You for; that all the peoples of the earth may know Your Name, and fear You, as do Your people Yisra’el, and that they may know that Your Name is called upon this house which I have built. 34If Your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatsoever way You shall send them, and they pray unto You toward this city which You have chosen, and the house which I have built for Your Name, 35then hear from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. 36If they sin against You, for there is no man that does not sin, and You are angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive unto a land far off or near; 37yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land where they are carried captive, and repent, and make supplication unto You in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned, we have done iniquitously, and have dealt wickedly’; 38if they repent unto You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have carried them captive, and pray toward their land, which You gave unto their fathers, and the city which You have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for Your Name; 39then hear from heaven, even from Your dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause; and forgive Your people who have sinned against You. 40Now, O my Elohim, let, I beseech You, Your eyes be open, and let Your ears be attentive unto the prayer that is made in this place. 41Now therefore arise, O יהוה Elohim, unto Your resting-place, You, and the Aron of Your strength; let Your Kohanim, O יהוה Elohim, be clothed with Salvation, and let Your Khasidim rejoice in goodness. 42O יהוה Elohim, turn not away the face of Your Mashi’akh; remember the compassions of David Your servant.”
אאָז אָמַר שְׁלֹמֹה: יהוה אָמַר לִשְׁכּוֹן בָּעֲרָפֶל. בוַאֲנִי בָּנִיתִי בֵית זְבֻל לָךְ; וּמָכוֹן לְשִׁבְתְּךָ עוֹלָמִים. גוַיַּסֵּב הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת פָּנָיו וַיְבָרֶךְ אֵת כָּל קְהַל יִשְׂרָאֵל; וְכָל קְהַל יִשְׂרָאֵל עוֹמֵד. דוַיֹּאמֶר בָּרוּךְ יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר בְּפִיו אֵת דָּוִיד אָבִי; וּבְיָדָיו מִלֵּא לֵאמֹר, המִן הַיּוֹם אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתִי אֶת עַמִּי מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם לֹא בָחַרְתִּי בְעִיר מִכֹּל שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לִבְנוֹת בַּיִת לִהְיוֹת שְׁמִי שָׁם; וְלֹא בָחַרְתִּי בְאִישׁ לִהְיוֹת נָגִיד עַל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל. ווָאֶבְחַר בִּירוּשָׁלִַם לִהְיוֹת שְׁמִי שָׁם; וָאֶבְחַר בְּדָוִיד לִהְיוֹת עַל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל. זוַיְהִי עִם לְבַב דָּוִיד אָבִי לִבְנוֹת בַּיִת לְשֵׁם יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. חוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל דָּוִיד אָבִי יַעַן אֲשֶׁר הָיָה עִם לְבָבְךָ לִבְנוֹת בַּיִת לִשְׁמִי הֱטִיבוֹתָ כִּי הָיָה עִם לְבָבֶךָ. טרַק אַתָּה לֹא תִבְנֶה הַבָּיִת: כִּי בִנְךָ הַיּוֹצֵא מֵחֲלָצֶיךָ הוּא יִבְנֶה הַבַּיִת לִשְׁמִי. יוַיָּקֶם יהוה אֶת דְּבָרוֹ אֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּר; וָאָקוּם תַּחַת דָּוִיד אָבִי וָאֵשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה וָאֶבְנֶה הַבַּיִת לְשֵׁם יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. יאוָאָשִׂים שָׁם אֶת הָאָרוֹן אֲשֶׁר שָׁם בְּרִית יהוה אֲשֶׁר כָּרַת עִם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. יבוַיַּעֲמֹד לִפְנֵי מִזְבַּח יהוה נֶגֶד כָּל קְהַל יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיִּפְרֹשׂ כַּפָּיו. יגכִּי עָשָׂה שְׁלֹמֹה כִּיּוֹר נְחֹשֶׁת וַיִּתְּנֵהוּ בְּתוֹךְ הָעֲזָרָה חָמֵשׁ אַמּוֹת אָרְכּוֹ וְחָמֵשׁ אַמּוֹת רָחְבּוֹ וְאַמּוֹת שָׁלוֹשׁ קוֹמָתוֹ; וַיַּעֲמֹד עָלָיו וַיִּבְרַךְ עַל בִּרְכָּיו נֶגֶד כָּל קְהַל יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּפְרֹשׂ כַּפָּיו הַשָּׁמָיְמָה. ידוַיֹּאמַר:
יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֵין כָּמוֹךָ אֱלֹהִים בַּשָּׁמַיִם וּבָאָרֶץ: שֹׁמֵר הַבְּרִית וְהַחֶסֶד לַעֲבָדֶיךָ הַהֹלְכִים לְפָנֶיךָ בְּכָל לִבָּם. טואֲשֶׁר שָׁמַרְתָּ לְעַבְדְּךָ דָּוִיד אָבִי אֵת אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ לוֹ; וַתְּדַבֵּר בְּפִיךָ וּבְיָדְךָ מִלֵּאתָ כַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה. טזוְעַתָּה יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל שְׁמֹר לְעַבְדְּךָ דָוִיד אָבִי אֵת אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ לּוֹ לֵאמֹר לֹא יִכָּרֵת לְךָ אִישׁ מִלְּפָנַי יוֹשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא יִשְׂרָאֵל: רַק אִם יִשְׁמְרוּ בָנֶיךָ אֶת דַּרְכָּם לָלֶכֶת בְּתוֹרָתִי כַּאֲשֶׁר הָלַכְתָּ לְפָנָי. יזוְעַתָּה יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: יֵאָמֵן דְּבָרְךָ אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ לְעַבְדְּךָ לְדָוִיד. יחכִּי הַאֻמְנָם יֵשֵׁב אֱלֹהִים אֶת הָאָדָם עַל הָאָרֶץ: הִנֵּה שָׁמַיִם וּשְׁמֵי הַשָּׁמַיִם לֹא יְכַלְכְּלוּךָ אַף כִּי הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר בָּנִיתִי. יטוּפָנִיתָ אֶל תְּפִלַּת עַבְדְּךָ וְאֶל תְּחִנָּתוֹ יהוה אֱלֹהָי: לִשְׁמֹעַ אֶל הָרִנָּה וְאֶל הַתְּפִלָּה אֲשֶׁר עַבְדְּךָ מִתְפַּלֵּל לְפָנֶיךָ. כלִהְיוֹת עֵינֶיךָ פְתֻחוֹת אֶל הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה יוֹמָם וָלַיְלָה אֶל הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר אָמַרְתָּ לָשׂוּם שִׁמְךָ שָׁם: לִשְׁמוֹעַ אֶל הַתְּפִלָּה אֲשֶׁר יִתְפַּלֵּל עַבְדְּךָ אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה. כאוְשָׁמַעְתָּ אֶל תַּחֲנוּנֵי עַבְדְּךָ וְעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר יִתְפַּלְלוּ אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה; וְאַתָּה תִּשְׁמַע מִמְּקוֹם שִׁבְתְּךָ מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם וְשָׁמַעְתָּ וְסָלָחְתָּ. כבאִם יֶחֱטָא אִישׁ לְרֵעֵהוּ וְנָשָׁא בוֹ אָלָה לְהַאֲלֹתוֹ; וּבָא אָלָה לִפְנֵי מִזְבַּחֲךָ בַּבַּיִת הַזֶּה. כגוְאַתָּה תִּשְׁמַע מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם וְעָשִׂיתָ וְשָׁפַטְתָּ אֶת עֲבָדֶיךָ לְהָשִׁיב לְרָשָׁע לָתֵת דַּרְכּוֹ בְּרֹאשׁוֹ; וּלְהַצְדִּיק צַדִּיק לָתֶת לוֹ כְּצִדְקָתוֹ. כדוְאִם יִנָּגֵף עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל לִפְנֵי אוֹיֵב כִּי יֶחֶטְאוּ לָךְ; וְשָׁבוּ וְהוֹדוּ אֶת שְׁמֶךָ וְהִתְפַּלְלוּ וְהִתְחַנְּנוּ לְפָנֶיךָ בַּבַּיִת הַזֶּה. כהוְאַתָּה תִּשְׁמַע מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם וְסָלַחְתָּ לְחַטַּאת עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַהֲשֵׁיבוֹתָם אֶל הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר נָתַתָּה לָהֶם וְלַאֲבֹתֵיהֶם.
כובְּהֵעָצֵר הַשָּׁמַיִם וְלֹא יִהְיֶה מָטָר כִּי יֶחֶטְאוּ לָךְ; וְהִתְפַּלְלוּ אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה וְהוֹדוּ אֶת שְׁמֶךָ מֵחַטָּאתָם יְשׁוּבוּן כִּי תַעֲנֵם. כזוְאַתָּה תִּשְׁמַע הַשָּׁמַיִם וְסָלַחְתָּ לְחַטַּאת עֲבָדֶיךָ וְעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי תוֹרֵם אֶל הַדֶּרֶךְ הַטּוֹבָה אֲשֶׁר יֵלְכוּ בָהּ; וְנָתַתָּה מָטָר עַל אַרְצְךָ אֲשֶׁר נָתַתָּה לְעַמְּךָ לְנַחֲלָה. כחרָעָב כִּי יִהְיֶה בָאָרֶץ דֶּבֶר כִּי יִהְיֶה שִׁדָּפוֹן וְיֵרָקוֹן אַרְבֶּה וְחָסִיל כִּי יִהְיֶה כִּי יָצַר לוֹ אֹיְבָיו בְּאֶרֶץ שְׁעָרָיו: כָּל נֶגַע וְכָל מַחֲלָה. כטכָּל תְּפִלָּה כָל תְּחִנָּה אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה לְכָל הָאָדָם וּלְכֹל עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר יֵדְעוּ אִישׁ נִגְעוֹ וּמַכְאֹבוֹ וּפָרַשׂ כַּפָּיו אֶל הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה. לוְאַתָּה תִּשְׁמַע מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם מְכוֹן שִׁבְתֶּךָ וְסָלַחְתָּ וְנָתַתָּה לָאִישׁ כְּכָל דְּרָכָיו אֲשֶׁר תֵּדַע אֶת לְבָבוֹ: כִּי אַתָּה לְבַדְּךָ יָדַעְתָּ אֶת לְבַב בְּנֵי הָאָדָם. לאלְמַעַן יִירָאוּךָ לָלֶכֶת בִּדְרָכֶיךָ כָּל הַיָּמִים אֲשֶׁר הֵם חַיִּים עַל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר נָתַתָּה לַאֲבֹתֵינוּ. לבוְגַם אֶל הַנָּכְרִי אֲשֶׁר לֹא מֵעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל הוּא וּבָא מֵאֶרֶץ רְחוֹקָה לְמַעַן שִׁמְךָ הַגָּדוֹל וְיָדְךָ הַחֲזָקָה וּזְרוֹעֲךָ הַנְּטוּיָה; וּבָאוּ וְהִתְפַּלְלוּ אֶל הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה. לגוְאַתָּה תִּשְׁמַע מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם מִמְּכוֹן שִׁבְתֶּךָ וְעָשִׂיתָ כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר יִקְרָא אֵלֶיךָ הַנָּכְרִי: לְמַעַן יֵדְעוּ כָל עַמֵּי הָאָרֶץ אֶת שְׁמֶךָ וּלְיִרְאָה אֹתְךָ כְּעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלָדַעַת כִּי שִׁמְךָ נִקְרָא עַל הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר בָּנִיתִי. לדכִּי יֵצֵא עַמְּךָ לַמִּלְחָמָה עַל אֹיְבָיו בַּדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר תִּשְׁלָחֵם; וְהִתְפַּלְלוּ אֵלֶיךָ דֶּרֶךְ הָעִיר הַזֹּאת אֲשֶׁר בָּחַרְתָּ בָּהּ וְהַבַּיִת אֲשֶׁר בָּנִיתִי לִשְׁמֶךָ. להוְשָׁמַעְתָּ מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם אֶת תְּפִלָּתָם וְאֶת תְּחִנָּתָם; וְעָשִׂיתָ מִשְׁפָּטָם. לוכִּי יֶחֶטְאוּ לָךְ כִּי אֵין אָדָם אֲשֶׁר לֹא יֶחֱטָא וְאָנַפְתָּ בָם וּנְתַתָּם לִפְנֵי אוֹיֵב; וְשָׁבוּם שׁוֹבֵיהֶם אֶל אֶרֶץ רְחוֹקָה אוֹ קְרוֹבָה. לזוְהֵשִׁיבוּ אֶל לְבָבָם בָּאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבּוּ שָׁם; וְשָׁבוּ וְהִתְחַנְּנוּ אֵלֶיךָ בְּאֶרֶץ שִׁבְיָם לֵאמֹר חָטָאנוּ הֶעֱוִינוּ וְרָשָׁעְנוּ. לחוְשָׁבוּ אֵלֶיךָ בְּכָל לִבָּם וּבְכָל נַפְשָׁם בְּאֶרֶץ שִׁבְיָם אֲשֶׁר שָׁבוּ אֹתָם; וְהִתְפַּלְלוּ דֶּרֶךְ אַרְצָם אֲשֶׁר נָתַתָּה לַאֲבוֹתָם וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר בָּחַרְתָּ וְלַבַּיִת אֲשֶׁר בָּנִיתִי לִשְׁמֶךָ. לטוְשָׁמַעְתָּ מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם מִמְּכוֹן שִׁבְתְּךָ אֶת תְּפִלָּתָם וְאֶת תְּחִנֹּתֵיהֶם וְעָשִׂיתָ מִשְׁפָּטָם; וְסָלַחְתָּ לְעַמְּךָ אֲשֶׁר חָטְאוּ לָךְ. מעַתָּה אֱלֹהַי יִהְיוּ נָא עֵינֶיךָ פְּתֻחוֹת וְאָזְנֶיךָ קַשֻּׁבוֹת לִתְפִלַּת הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה. מאוְעַתָּה קוּמָה יהוה אֱלֹהִים לְנוּחֶךָ אַתָּה וַאֲרוֹן עֻזֶּךָ; כֹּהֲנֶיךָ יהוה אֱלֹהִים יִלְבְּשׁוּ תְשׁוּעָה וַחֲסִידֶיךָ יִשְׂמְחוּ בַטּוֹב. מב יהוה אֱלֹהִים אַל תָּשֵׁב פְּנֵי מְשִׁיחֶךָ: זָכְרָה לְחַסְדֵי דָּוִיד עַבְדֶּךָ.
