1Then Iyov answered and said,
2“I have heard many such things; sorry comforters are you all.
3Shall windy words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?
4I also could speak as you do; if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you.
5I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips would assuage your grief.
6Though I speak, my pain is not assuaged; and though I forbear, what am I eased?
7But now He has made me weary; You have made desolate all my company.
8And You have shrivelled me up, which is a witness against me; and my leanness rises up against me, it testifies to my face.
9He has torn me in His wrath, and hated me; He has gnashed upon me with His teeth; my adversary sharpens his eyes upon me.
10They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek scornfully; they gather themselves together against me.
11God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked.
12I was at ease, and He broke me asunder; yes, He has taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces; He has also set me up for His mark.
13His archers encompass me round about, He cleaves my reins asunder, and does not spare; He pours out my gall upon the ground.
14He breaks me with breach upon breach; He runs upon me like a giant.
15I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and have laid my horn in the dust.
16My face is reddened with weeping, and on my eyelids is Tzal-Mavet;
17Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.
18O earth, cover not my blood, and let my cry have no resting-place.
19Even now, behold, my Witness is in heaven, and He that testifies of me is on high.
20My inward thoughts are my intercessors, my eye pours out tears unto Eloha;
21That He would set aright a man contending with Eloha, as a son of man sets aright his neighbor!
22For the years that are few are coming on, and I shall go the way from where I shall not return.”
אוַיַּעַן אִיּוֹב וַיֹּאמַר,
בשָׁמַעְתִּי כְאֵלֶּה רַבּוֹת; מְנַחֲמֵי עָמָל כֻּלְּכֶם.
גהֲקֵץ לְדִבְרֵי רוּחַ; אוֹ מַה יַּמְרִיצְךָ כִּי תַעֲנֶה.
דגַּם אָנֹכִי כָּכֶם אֲדַבֵּרָה: לוּ יֵשׁ נַפְשְׁכֶם תַּחַת נַפְשִׁי אַחְבִּירָה עֲלֵיכֶם בְּמִלִּים; וְאָנִיעָה עֲלֵיכֶם בְּמוֹ רֹאשִׁי.
האֲאַמִּצְכֶם בְּמוֹ פִי; וְנִיד שְׂפָתַי יַחְשֹׂךְ.
ואִם אֲדַבְּרָה לֹא יֵחָשֵׂךְ כְּאֵבִי; וְאַחְדְּלָה מַה מִּנִּי יַהֲלֹךְ.
זאַךְ עַתָּה הֶלְאָנִי; הֲשִׁמּוֹתָ כָּל עֲדָתִי.
חוַתִּקְמְטֵנִי לְעֵד הָיָה; וַיָּקָם בִּי כַחֲשִׁי בְּפָנַי יַעֲנֶה.
טאַפּוֹ טָרַף וַיִּשְׂטְמֵנִי חָרַק עָלַי בְּשִׁנָּיו; צָרִי יִלְטֹשׁ עֵינָיו לִי.
יפָּעֲרוּ עָלַי בְּפִיהֶם בְּחֶרְפָּה הִכּוּ לְחָיָי; יַחַד עָלַי יִתְמַלָּאוּן.
יאיַסְגִּירֵנִי אֵל אֶל עֲוִיל; וְעַל יְדֵי רְשָׁעִים יִרְטֵנִי.
יבשָׁלֵו הָיִיתִי וַיְפַרְפְּרֵנִי וְאָחַז בְּעָרְפִּי וַיְפַצְפְּצֵנִי; וַיְקִימֵנִי לוֹ לְמַטָּרָה.
יגיָסֹבּוּ עָלַי רַבָּיו יְפַלַּח כִּלְיוֹתַי וְלֹא יַחְמֹל; יִשְׁפֹּךְ לָאָרֶץ מְרֵרָתִי.
ידיִפְרְצֵנִי פֶרֶץ עַל פְּנֵי פָרֶץ; יָרֻץ עָלַי כְּגִבּוֹר.
טושַׂק תָּפַרְתִּי עֲלֵי גִלְדִּי; וְעֹלַלְתִּי בֶעָפָר קַרְנִי.
טזפָּנַי חמרמרה (חֳמַרְמְרוּ) מִנִּי בֶכִי; וְעַל עַפְעַפַּי צַלְמָוֶת.
יזעַל לֹא חָמָס בְּכַפָּי; וּתְפִלָּתִי זַכָּה.
יחאֶרֶץ אַל תְּכַסִּי דָמִי; וְאַל יְהִי מָקוֹם לְזַעֲקָתִי.
יטגַּם עַתָּה הִנֵּה בַשָּׁמַיִם עֵדִי; וְשָׂהֲדִי בַּמְּרֹמִים.
כמְלִיצַי רֵעָי; אֶל אֱלוֹהַּ דָּלְפָה עֵינִי.
כאוְיוֹכַח לְגֶבֶר עִם אֱלוֹהַּ; וּבֶן אָדָם לְרֵעֵהוּ.
כבכִּי שְׁנוֹת מִסְפָּר יֶאֱתָיוּ; וְאֹרַח לֹא אָשׁוּב אֶהֱלֹךְ.
