Mishlim 17 – משלים יז

Better is a dry morsel and quietness therewith, than a house full of offerings with strife.

A servant that deals wisely shall have rule over a son that deals shamefully, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but  יהוה  tries the hearts.

An evil-doer gives heed to wicked lips; and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.

Whoever mocks the poor blasphemes his Maker; and he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

Overbearing speech becomes not a peasant; much less do lying lips a prince.

A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that has it; wherever he turns, he prospers.

He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that harps on a matter estranges a familiar friend.

A rebuke enters deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.

A rebellious man seeks only evil; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

The beginning of strife is as when one lets out water; therefore leave off contention, before the quarrel breaks out.

He that justifies the wicked, and he that condemns a Tzadik, even they both are an abomination to  יהוה .

Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he has no understanding?

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

A man void of understanding is he that strikes hands, and becomes surety in the presence of his neighbor.

The one who loves transgression loves strife; he that exalts his gate seeks destruction.

He that has a contentious heart finds no good; and he that has a perverse tongue falls into evil.

He that begets a fool does it to his sorrow; and the father of the senseless has no joy.

A merry heart is a good medicine; but a broken spirit dries the bones.

A wicked man takes a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the ways of justice.

Wisdom is before him that has understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

A foolish son is vexation to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.

To punish also HaTzadik is not good, nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.

He that spares his words has knowledge; and he that cherishes the Ru’akh is a man of discernment.

Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise; and he that shuts his lips is esteemed as a man of understanding.
