Ruut 4 – רות ד

¹Now Bo’az went up to the gate and sat down there; and, behold, the near kinsman of whom Bo’az spoke came by. He said unto him, “Ho, such a one! Turn aside, sit down here.” And he turned aside, and sat down. ²And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” And they sat down. ³And he said unto the near kinsman, “Na’omi, that is come back out of the field of Mo’av, sells the parcel of land which was our brother Elimelekh’s; ⁴and I thought to disclose it unto you, saying:, ‘Buy it before them that sit here, and before the elders of my people’. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if it will not be redeemed, then tell me, that I may know; for there is none to redeem it beside you; and I am after you.” And he said, “I will redeem it.” ⁵Then said Bo’az, “Whatever day you buy the field of the hand of Na’omi, have you also bought Ruut the Mo’avi’ah, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance?” ⁶And the near kinsman said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar my own inheritance; take my right of redemption on you; for I cannot redeem it.” ⁷Now this was the custom in former times in Yisra’el concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging, to confirm all things: a man drew off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor; and this was the attestation in Yisra’el. ⁸So the near kinsman said unto Bo’az, “Buy it for yourself.” And he drew off his shoe. ⁹And Bo’az said unto the elders, and unto all the people, “You are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Khilyon’s and Makhlon’s, of the hand of Na’omi. ¹⁰Moreover Ruut the Mo’avi’ah, the wife of Makhlon, have I acquired to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead is not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place; you are witnesses this day.” ¹¹And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses.  יהוה  make the woman that is come into your house like Rakhel and like Le’ah, which two did build Beit Yisra’el; and you, do worthily in Efrat, and be famous in Beit Lekhem; ¹²and let your house be like the house of Peretz, whom Tamar bore unto Yehudah, of the seed which  יהוה  shall give you of this young woman.” ¹³So Bo’az took Ruut, and she became his wife; and he went in unto her, and  יהוה  gave her conception, and she bore a son.  ¹⁴And the women said unto Na’omi,  “Blessed is  יהוה ,  who  has  not  left 

you this day without a near kinsman, and let his name be famous in Yisra’el. ¹⁵And he shall be unto you a restorer of life, and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.” ¹⁶And Na’omi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. ¹⁷And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, “There is a son born to Na’omi’; and they called his name Oved; he is the father of Yishai, the father of David.

¹⁸Now these are the generations of Peretz: Peretz begot Khetzron; ¹⁹and Khetzron begot Ram, and Ram begot Aminadav; ²⁰and Aminadav begot Nakhshon, and Nakhshon begot Salmon; ²¹and Salmon begot Bo’az, and Bo’az begot Oved; ²²and Oved begot Yishai, and Yishai begot David.

^אוּבֹעַז עָלָה הַשַּׁעַר וַיֵּשֶׁב שָׁם וְהִנֵּה הַגֹּאֵל עֹבֵר אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר בֹּעַז וַיֹּאמֶר סוּרָה שְׁבָה פֹּה פְּלֹנִי אַלְמֹנִי; וַיָּסַר וַיֵּשֵׁב. ^בוַיִּקַּח עֲשָׂרָה אֲנָשִׁים מִזִּקְנֵי הָעִיר וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁבוּ פֹה; וַיֵּשֵׁבוּ. ^גוַיֹּאמֶר לַגֹּאֵל חֶלְקַת הַשָּׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר לְאָחִינוּ לֶאֱלִימֶלֶךְ: מָכְרָה נָעֳמִי הַשָּׁבָה מִשְּׂדֵה מוֹאָב. ^דוַאֲנִי אָמַרְתִּי אֶגְלֶה אָזְנְךָ לֵאמֹר קְנֵה נֶגֶד הַיֹּשְׁבִים וְנֶגֶד זִקְנֵי עַמִּי אִם תִּגְאַל גְּאָל וְאִם לֹא יִגְאַל הַגִּידָה לִּי ואדע (וְאֵדְעָה) כִּי אֵין זוּלָתְךָ לִגְאוֹל וְאָנֹכִי אַחֲרֶיךָ; וַיֹּאמֶר אָנֹכִי אֶגְאָל. ^הוַיֹּאמֶר בֹּעַז בְּיוֹם קְנוֹתְךָ הַשָּׂדֶה מִיַּד נָעֳמִי; וּמֵאֵת רוּת הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּה אֵשֶׁת הַמֵּת קניתי (קָנִיתָ) לְהָקִים שֵׁם הַמֵּת עַל נַחֲלָתוֹ. ^ווַיֹּאמֶר הַגֹּאֵל לֹא אוּכַל לגאול (לִגְאָל) לִי פֶּן אַשְׁחִית אֶת נַחֲלָתִי; גְּאַל לְךָ אַתָּה אֶת גְּאֻלָּתִי כִּי לֹא אוּכַל לִגְאֹל. ^זוְזֹאת לְפָנִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל עַל הַגְּאֻלָּה וְעַל הַתְּמוּרָה לְקַיֵּם כָּל דָּבָר שָׁלַף אִישׁ נַעֲלוֹ וְנָתַן לְרֵעֵהוּ; וְזֹאת הַתְּעוּדָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. ^חוַיֹּאמֶר הַגֹּאֵל לְבֹעַז קְנֵה לָךְ; וַיִּשְׁלֹף נַעֲלוֹ. ^טוַיֹּאמֶר בֹּעַז לַזְּקֵנִים וְכָל הָעָם עֵדִים אַתֶּם הַיּוֹם כִּי קָנִיתִי אֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לֶאֱלִימֶלֶךְ וְאֵת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לְכִלְיוֹן וּמַחְלוֹן מִיַּד נָעֳמִי. ^יוְגַם אֶת רוּת הַמֹּאֲבִיָּה אֵשֶׁת מַחְלוֹן קָנִיתִי לִי לְאִשָּׁה לְהָקִים שֵׁם הַמֵּת עַל נַחֲלָתוֹ וְלֹא יִכָּרֵת שֵׁם הַמֵּת מֵעִם אֶחָיו וּמִשַּׁעַר מְקוֹמוֹ: עֵדִים אַתֶּם הַיּוֹם. ^יאוַיֹּאמְרוּ כָּל הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בַּשַּׁעַר וְהַזְּקֵנִים עֵדִים; יִתֵּן יהוה אֶת הָאִשָּׁה הַבָּאָה אֶל בֵּיתֶךָ כְּרָחֵל וּכְלֵאָה אֲשֶׁר בָּנוּ שְׁתֵּיהֶם אֶת בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל וַעֲשֵׂה חַיִל בְּאֶפְרָתָה וּקְרָא שֵׁם בְּבֵית לָחֶם. ^יבוִיהִי בֵיתְךָ כְּבֵית פֶּרֶץ אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה תָמָר לִיהוּדָה מִן הַזֶּרַע אֲשֶׁר יִתֵּן יהוה לְךָ מִן הַנַּעֲרָה הַזֹּאת. ^יגוַיִּקַּח בֹּעַז אֶת רוּת וַתְּהִי לוֹ לְאִשָּׁה וַיָּבֹא אֵלֶיהָ; וַיִּתֵּן יהוה לָהּ הֵרָיוֹן וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן. ^ידוַתֹּאמַרְנָה הַנָּשִׁים אֶל נָעֳמִי בָּרוּךְ יהוה אֲשֶׁר לֹא הִשְׁבִּית לָךְ גֹּאֵל הַיּוֹם; וְיִקָּרֵא שְׁמוֹ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. ^טווְהָיָה לָךְ לְמֵשִׁיב נֶפֶשׁ וּלְכַלְכֵּל אֶת שֵׂיבָתֵךְ: כִּי כַלָּתֵךְ אֲשֶׁר  אֲהֵבַתֶךְ יְלָדַתּוּ אֲשֶׁר  הִיא  טוֹבָה לָךְ מִשִּׁבְעָה בָּנִים. ^טזוַתִּקַּח נָעֳמִי אֶת הַיֶּלֶד וַתְּשִׁתֵהוּ בְחֵיקָה וַתְּהִי לוֹ לְאֹמֶנֶת. ^יזוַתִּקְרֶאנָה לוֹ הַשְּׁכֵנוֹת שֵׁם לֵאמֹר יֻלַּד בֵּן לְנָעֳמִי; וַתִּקְרֶאנָה שְׁמוֹ עוֹבֵד הוּא אֲבִי יִשַׁי אֲבִי דָוִד.

 ^יחוְאֵלֶּה תּוֹלְדוֹת פָּרֶץ פֶּרֶץ הוֹלִיד אֶת חֶצְרוֹן. ^יטוְחֶצְרוֹן הוֹלִיד אֶת רָם וְרָם הוֹלִיד אֶת עַמִּינָדָב. ^כוְעַמִּינָדָב הוֹלִיד אֶת נַחְשׁוֹן וְנַחְשׁוֹן הוֹלִיד אֶת שַׂלְמָה. ^כאוְשַׂלְמוֹן הוֹלִיד אֶת בֹּעַז וּבֹעַז הוֹלִיד אֶת עוֹבֵד. ^כבוְעֹבֵד הוֹלִיד אֶת יִשָׁי וְיִשַׁי הוֹלִיד אֶת דָּוִד.
