1“Hear HaDavar HaZeh which I take up for a lamentation over you, O Beit Yisra’el. 2The virgin of Yisra’el is fallen, she shall no more rise; she is cast down upon her land, there is none to raise her up. 3For thus says Adonai יהוה , ‘The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, of Beit Yisra’el’. 4For thus says יהוה unto Beit Yisra’el, ‘Seek Me, and live; 5but seek not Beit El, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Be’er Shava; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beit El shall come to nought. 6Seek יהוה , and live, lest He break out like fire in Beit Yosef, and it devours, and there is none to quench it in Beit El. 7You who turn judgment to wormwood, and cast tzedaka to the ground; 8Him that makes the Pleiades and Orion, and brings on Tzal-Mavet in the morning, and darkens the day into night; that calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth; יהוה is His Name; 9that causes destruction to flash upon the strong, so that destruction comes upon the fortress. 10They hate him that reproves in the gate, and they abhor him that speaks uprightly. 11Therefore, because you trample upon the poor, and take from him exactions of wheat; you have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them, you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine thereof. 12For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins; you that afflict a Tzadik, that take a ransom, and that turn aside the needy in the gate. 13Therefore the prudent does keep silence in such a time; for it is an evil time. 14Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so יהוה Elohei HaTzeva’ot will be with you, as you say. 15Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that יהוה Elohei HaTzeva’ot will be gracious unto the remnant of Yosef. 16Therefore thus says יהוה Elohei HaTzeva’ot, Adonai, ‘Lamentation shall be in all the broad places, and they shall say in all the streets, ‘Alas! alas!’ And they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and proclaim lamentation to such as are skillful of wailing. 17And in all vineyards shall be lamentation; for I will pass through the midst of you, says יהוה .'”
18“Woe unto you that desire Yom יהוה ! Why would you have Yom יהוה ? It is darkness, and not light. 19As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; and went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20Shall not Yom יהוה be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it? 21I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your festive assemblies. 22Yes, though you offer me Olot and your Minkhot, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the Sh’lamim of your fat beasts. 23Take away from Me the noise of your songs; and let Me not hear the melody of your Nevalim. 24But let justice well up as waters, and tzedaka as a mighty stream. 25Did you bring unto Me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O Beit Yisra’el? 26So shall you take up Sikut your king and Kiyun your images, the star of your god, which you made to yourselves. 27Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damesek, says He whose Name is יהוה Elohei Tzeva’ot.”
אשִׁמְעוּ אֶת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי נֹשֵׂא עֲלֵיכֶם קִינָה בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל. בנָפְלָה לֹא תוֹסִיף קוּם בְּתוּלַת יִשְׂרָאֵל; נִטְּשָׁה עַל אַדְמָתָהּ אֵין מְקִימָהּ. גכִּי כֹה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יהוה הָעִיר הַיֹּצֵאת אֶלֶף תַּשְׁאִיר מֵאָה; וְהַיּוֹצֵאת מֵאָה תַּשְׁאִיר עֲשָׂרָה לְבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל. דכִּי כֹה אָמַר יהוה לְבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל: דִּרְשׁוּנִי וִחְיוּ. הוְאַל תִּדְרְשׁוּ בֵּית אֵל וְהַגִּלְגָּל לֹא תָבֹאוּ וּבְאֵר שֶׁבַע לֹא תַעֲבֹרוּ: כִּי הַגִּלְגָּל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה וּבֵית אֵל יִהְיֶה לְאָוֶן. ודִּרְשׁוּ אֶת יהוה וִחְיוּ: פֶּן יִצְלַח כָּאֵשׁ בֵּית יוֹסֵף וְאָכְלָה וְאֵין מְכַבֶּה לְבֵית אֵל. זהַהֹפְכִים לְלַעֲנָה מִשְׁפָּט; וּצְדָקָה לָאָרֶץ הִנִּיחוּ. חעֹשֵׂה כִימָה וּכְסִיל וְהֹפֵךְ לַבֹּקֶר צַלְמָוֶת וְיוֹם לַיְלָה הֶחְשִׁיךְ; הַקּוֹרֵא לְמֵי הַיָּם וַיִּשְׁפְּכֵם עַל פְּנֵי הָאָרֶץ יהוה שְׁמוֹ. טהַמַּבְלִיג שֹׁד עַל עָז; וְשֹׁד עַל מִבְצָר יָבוֹא. ישָׂנְאוּ בַשַּׁעַר מוֹכִיחַ; וְדֹבֵר תָּמִים יְתָעֵבוּ. יאלָכֵן יַעַן בּוֹשַׁסְכֶם עַל דָּל וּמַשְׂאַת בַּר תִּקְחוּ מִמֶּנּוּ בָּתֵּי גָזִית בְּנִיתֶם וְלֹא תֵשְׁבוּ בָם; כַּרְמֵי חֶמֶד נְטַעְתֶּם וְלֹא תִשְׁתּוּ אֶת יֵינָם. יבכִּי יָדַעְתִּי רַבִּים פִּשְׁעֵיכֶם וַעֲצֻמִים חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם; צֹרְרֵי צַדִּיק לֹקְחֵי כֹפֶר וְאֶבְיוֹנִים בַּשַּׁעַר הִטּוּ. יגלָכֵן הַמַּשְׂכִּיל בָּעֵת הַהִיא יִדֹּם: כִּי עֵת רָעָה הִיא. ידדִּרְשׁוּ טוֹב וְאַל רָע לְמַעַן תִּחְיוּ; וִיהִי כֵן יהוה אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת אִתְּכֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲמַרְתֶּם. טושִׂנְאוּ רָע וְאֶהֱבוּ טוֹב וְהַצִּיגוּ בַשַּׁעַר מִשְׁפָּט; אוּלַי יֶחֱנַן יהוה אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת שְׁאֵרִית יוֹסֵף. טזלָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר יהוה אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת אֲדֹנָי בְּכָל רְחֹבוֹת מִסְפֵּד וּבְכָל חוּצוֹת יֹאמְרוּ הוֹ הוֹ; וְקָרְאוּ אִכָּר אֶל אֵבֶל וּמִסְפֵּד אֶל יוֹדְעֵי נֶהִי. יזוּבְכָל כְּרָמִים מִסְפֵּד: כִּי אֶעֱבֹר בְּקִרְבְּךָ אָמַר יהוה .
יחהוֹי הַמִּתְאַוִּים אֶת יוֹם יהוה : לָמָּה זֶּה לָכֶם יוֹם יהוה הוּא חֹשֶׁךְ וְלֹא אוֹר. יטכַּאֲשֶׁר יָנוּס אִישׁ מִפְּנֵי הָאֲרִי וּפְגָעוֹ הַדֹּב; וּבָא הַבַּיִת וְסָמַךְ יָדוֹ עַל הַקִּיר וּנְשָׁכוֹ הַנָּחָשׁ. כהֲלֹא חֹשֶׁךְ יוֹם יהוה וְלֹא אוֹר; וְאָפֵל וְלֹא נֹגַהּ לוֹ. כאשָׂנֵאתִי מָאַסְתִּי חַגֵּיכֶם; וְלֹא אָרִיחַ בְּעַצְּרֹתֵיכֶם. כבכִּי אִם תַּעֲלוּ לִי עֹלוֹת וּמִנְחֹתֵיכֶם לֹא אֶרְצֶה; וְשֶׁלֶם מְרִיאֵיכֶם לֹא אַבִּיט. כגהָסֵר מֵעָלַי הֲמוֹן שִׁרֶיךָ; וְזִמְרַת נְבָלֶיךָ לֹא אֶשְׁמָע. כדוְיִגַּל כַּמַּיִם מִשְׁפָּט; וּצְדָקָה כְּנַחַל אֵיתָן. כההַזְּבָחִים וּמִנְחָה הִגַּשְׁתֶּם לִי בַמִּדְבָּר אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל. כווּנְשָׂאתֶם אֵת סִכּוּת מַלְכְּכֶם וְאֵת כִּיּוּן צַלְמֵיכֶם כּוֹכַב אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶם לָכֶם. כזוְהִגְלֵיתִי אֶתְכֶם מֵהָלְאָה לְדַמָּשֶׂק: אָמַר יהוה אֱלֹהֵי צְבָאוֹת שְׁמוֹ.
