1Thus Adonai יהוה showed me; and, behold, He formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings. 2And if it had come to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, so I said, “O Adonai יהוה , forgive, I beseech You; how shall Ya’akov stand? For he is small”. 3 יהוה relented concerning this; “It shall not be”, says יהוה . Thus4 Adonai יהוה showed me; and, behold, Adonai יהוה called to contend by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and would have eaten up the land. 5Then I said, “O Adonai יהוה , cease, I beseech You; how shall Ya’akov stand? For he is small”. 6 יהוה relented concerning this; “This also shall not be”, says Adonai יהוה .
7Thus He showed me; and, behold, Adonai stood beside a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in His hand. 8And יהוה said unto me, ”Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumbline.” Then said Adonai, “Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of My people Yisra’el; I will not again pardon them any more; 9And the high places of Yitz’khak shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Yisra’el shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Yaravam with the sword.” 10Then Amatz-Yah the priest of Beit El sent to Yaravam Melekh Yisra’el, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of Beit Yisra’el; the land is not able to bear all his words.” 11For thus Amos says, “Yaravam shall die by the sword, and Yisra’el shall surely be led away captive out of his land.” 12Also Amatz-Yah said unto Amos, ”O Seer, go, flee away into the land of Yehudah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there; 13but prophesy not again any more at Beit El, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a royal house.” 14Then Amos answered, and said to Amatz-Yah, ”I was no Navi, neither was I the son of a Navi; but I was a herdman, and a dresser of sycamore trees; 15and יהוה took me from following the flock, and יהוה said unto me, “Go, prophesy unto My people Yisra’el.” 16Now therefore hear the D’var יהוה , “You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Yisra’el, and declare not against Beit Yitz’khak’; 17therefore, thus says יהוה , ‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in an unclean land, and Yisra’el shall surely be led away captive out of his land.'”
אכֹּה הִרְאַנִי אֲדֹנָי יהוה וְהִנֵּה יוֹצֵר גֹּבַי בִּתְחִלַּת עֲלוֹת הַלָּקֶשׁ; וְהִנֵּה לֶקֶשׁ אַחַר גִּזֵּי הַמֶּלֶךְ. בוְהָיָה אִם כִּלָּה לֶאֱכוֹל אֶת עֵשֶׂב הָאָרֶץ וָאֹמַר אֲדֹנָי יהוה סְלַח נָא מִי יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב: כִּי קָטֹן הוּא. גנִחַם יהוה עַל זֹאת: לֹא תִהְיֶה אָמַר יהוה . דכֹּה הִרְאַנִי אֲדֹנָי יהוה וְהִנֵּה קֹרֵא לָרִב בָּאֵשׁ אֲדֹנָי יהוה ; וַתֹּאכַל אֶת תְּהוֹם רַבָּה וְאָכְלָה אֶת הַחֵלֶק. הוָאֹמַר אֲדֹנָי יהוה חֲדַל נָא מִי יָקוּם יַעֲקֹב: כִּי קָטֹן הוּא. ונִחַם יהוה עַל זֹאת; גַּם הִיא לֹא תִהְיֶה אָמַר אֲדֹנָי יהוה .
זכֹּה הִרְאַנִי וְהִנֵּה אֲדֹנָי נִצָּב עַל חוֹמַת אֲנָךְ; וּבְיָדוֹ אֲנָךְ. חוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֵלַי מָה אַתָּה רֹאֶה עָמוֹס וָאֹמַר אֲנָךְ; וַיֹּאמֶר אֲדֹנָי הִנְנִי שָׂם אֲנָךְ בְּקֶרֶב עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא אוֹסִיף עוֹד עֲבוֹר לוֹ. טוְנָשַׁמּוּ בָּמוֹת יִשְׂחָק וּמִקְדְּשֵׁי יִשְׂרָאֵל יֶחֱרָבוּ; וְקַמְתִּי עַל בֵּית יָרָבְעָם בֶּחָרֶב. יוַיִּשְׁלַח אֲמַצְיָה כֹּהֵן בֵּית אֵל אֶל יָרָבְעָם מֶלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר: קָשַׁר עָלֶיךָ עָמוֹס בְּקֶרֶב בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל לֹא תוּכַל הָאָרֶץ לְהָכִיל אֶת כָּל דְּבָרָיו. יאכִּי כֹה אָמַר עָמוֹס בַּחֶרֶב יָמוּת יָרָבְעָם; וְיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה מֵעַל אַדְמָתוֹ. יבוַיֹּאמֶר אֲמַצְיָה אֶל עָמוֹס חֹזֶה לֵךְ בְּרַח לְךָ אֶל אֶרֶץ יְהוּדָה; וֶאֱכָל שָׁם לֶחֶם וְשָׁם תִּנָּבֵא. יגוּבֵית אֵל לֹא תוֹסִיף עוֹד לְהִנָּבֵא: כִּי מִקְדַּשׁ מֶלֶךְ הוּא וּבֵית מַמְלָכָה הוּא. ידוַיַּעַן עָמוֹס וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל אֲמַצְיָה לֹא נָבִיא אָנֹכִי וְלֹא בֶן נָבִיא אָנֹכִי: כִּי בוֹקֵר אָנֹכִי וּבוֹלֵס שִׁקְמִים. טווַיִּקָּחֵנִי יהוה מֵאַחֲרֵי הַצֹּאן; וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי יהוה לֵךְ הִנָּבֵא אֶל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל. טזוְעַתָּה שְׁמַע דְּבַר יהוה : אַתָּה אֹמֵר לֹא תִנָּבֵא עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֹא תַטִּיף עַל בֵּית יִשְׂחָק. יזלָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר יהוה אִשְׁתְּךָ בָּעִיר תִּזְנֶה וּבָנֶיךָ וּבְנֹתֶיךָ בַּחֶרֶב יִפֹּלוּ וְאַדְמָתְךָ בַּחֶבֶל תְּחֻלָּק; וְאַתָּה עַל אֲדָמָה טְמֵאָה תָּמוּת וְיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּלֹה יִגְלֶה מֵעַל אַדְמָתוֹ.
