1Now these are the heads of their fathers’ houses, and this is the genealogy of them that went up with me from Bavel, in the reign of Artakhshastah the king. 2Of the sons of Pin’khas, Gershom; of the sons of Itamar, Dani’el; of the sons of David, Khatush. 3Of the sons of Shekhan-Yah: of the sons of Parosh, Zekhar-Yah; and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males a hundred and fifty. 4Of the sons of Pakhat Mo’av, Elyeho’einai Ben Zerakh-Yah; and with him two hundred males. 5Of the sons of Shekhan-Yah, the son of Yakhazi’el; and with him three hundred males. 6And of the sons of Adin, Eved Ben Yonatan; and with him fifty males. 7And of the sons of Elam, Yesha-Yah Ben Atal-Yah; and with him seventy males. 8And of the sons of Shefat-Yah, Zevad-Yah Ben Mikhah-el; and with him eighty males. 9Of the sons of Yo’av, Ovad-Yah Ben Yehi’el; and with him two hundred and eighteen males. 10And of the sons of Shelomit Ben Yosifi-Yah; and with him a hundred and sixty males. 11And of the sons of Bevai, Zekhar-Yah Ben Bevai; and with him twenty-eight males. 12And of the sons of Azgad, Yokhanan Ben HaKatan; and with him a hundred and ten males. 13And of the sons of My Adonkam, that were the last; and these are their names, Elifelet, Yei’el, and Shema-Yah; and with them sixty males. 14And of the sons of Bigvai, Utai and Zakur; and with him seventy males.
15And I gathered them together to the river that runs to Ahava; and there we encamped three days; and I viewed the people, and the Kohanim, and found there none of the sons of Levi. 16Then I sent for Eli-Ezer, for Ari’el, for Shema-Yah, and for Elnatan, and for Yariv, and for Elnatan, and for Natan, and for Zekhar-Yah, and for Meshulam, chief men; also for Yoyariv, and for Elnatan, teachers. 17And I gave them Mitzvah unto Ido the chief at the place Kasifyah; and I told them what they should say unto Ido [and] his brother, who were set over the place Kasifyah, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our Elohim. 18And according to the good hand of our Elohim upon us they brought us a man of discretion, of the sons of Makhli Ben Levi, Ben Yisra’el; and Sherev-Yah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen; 19and Khashav-Yah, and with him Yesha-Yah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty; 20and of the Netinim, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levi’im, two hundred and twenty Netinim; all of them were mentioned by name. 21Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our Elohim, to seek of Him a straight way, for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance. 22For I was ashamed to ask of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way; because we had spoken unto the king, saying, “The hand of our Elohim is upon all them that seek Him, for good; but His power and His wrath is against all them that forsake Him.” 23So we fasted and besought our Elohim for this; and He was entreated of us. 24Then I separated twelve of the chiefs of the Kohanim, besides Sherev-Yah, Khashav-Yah, and ten of their brethren with them, 25and weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our Elohim, which the king, and his counsellors, and his princes, and all Yisra’el there present, had offered; 26I even weighed into their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels a hundred talents; of gold a hundred talents; 27and twenty basins of gold, of a thousand darics; and two vessels of fine bright brass, precious as gold. 28And I said unto them, “You are Kadosh unto יהוה , and the vessels are kadosh; and the silver and the gold are a Nedavot unto יהוה , the Elohim of your fathers. 29Watch, and keep them, until you weigh them before the chiefs of the Kohanim and the Levi’im, and the princes of the fathers’ houses of Yisra’el, at Yerushalayim, in the chambers of Beit יהוה .” So30 the Kohanim and the Levi’im received the weight of the silver and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Yerushalayim unto the house of our Elohim.
31Then we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go unto Yerushalayim; and the hand of our Elohim was upon us, and He delivered us from the hand of the enemy and marauders by the way. 32And we came to Yerushalayim, and abode there three days. 33And on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our Elohim into the hand of Meremot Ben Uri-Yah the kohen; and with him was El-Azar Ben Pin’khas; and with them was Yozavad Ben Yeshua, and No’ad-Yah Ben Binui, the Levi’im; 34the whole by number and by weight; and all the weight was written at that time.
35The children of the captivity, that were come out of exile, offered Olot unto Elohei Yisra’el, twelve bullocks for all Yisra’el, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, twelve he-goats for a Khatat; all this was an Olah unto יהוה .
36And they delivered the king’s commissions unto the king’s satraps, and to the governors beyond the River; and they furthered the people and Beit HaElohim.
אוְאֵלֶּה רָאשֵׁי אֲבֹתֵיהֶם וְהִתְיַחְשָׂם: הָעֹלִים עִמִּי בְּמַלְכוּת אַרְתַּחְשַׁסְתְּא הַמֶּלֶךְ מִבָּבֶל. במִבְּנֵי פִינְחָס גֵּרְשֹׁם מִבְּנֵי אִיתָמָר דָּנִיֵּאל; מִבְּנֵי דָוִיד חַטּוּשׁ. גמִבְּנֵי שְׁכַנְיָה מִבְּנֵי פַרְעֹשׁ זְכַרְיָה; וְעִמּוֹ הִתְיַחֵשׂ לִזְכָרִים מֵאָה וַחֲמִשִּׁים. דמִבְּנֵי פַּחַת מוֹאָב אֶלְיְהוֹעֵינַי בֶּן זְרַחְיָה; וְעִמּוֹ מָאתַיִם הַזְּכָרִים. המִבְּנֵי שְׁכַנְיָה בֶּן יַחֲזִיאֵל; וְעִמּוֹ שְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת הַזְּכָרִים. ווּמִבְּנֵי עָדִין עֶבֶד בֶּן יוֹנָתָן; וְעִמּוֹ חֲמִשִּׁים הַזְּכָרִים. זוּמִבְּנֵי עֵילָם יְשַׁעְיָה בֶּן עֲתַלְיָה; וְעִמּוֹ שִׁבְעִים הַזְּכָרִים. חוּמִבְּנֵי שְׁפַטְיָה זְבַדְיָה בֶּן מִיכָאֵל; וְעִמּוֹ שְׁמֹנִים הַזְּכָרִים. טמִבְּנֵי יוֹאָב עֹבַדְיָה בֶּן יְחִיאֵל; וְעִמּוֹ מָאתַיִם וּשְׁמֹנָה עָשָׂר הַזְּכָרִים. יוּמִבְּנֵי שְׁלוֹמִית בֶּן יוֹסִפְיָה; וְעִמּוֹ מֵאָה וְשִׁשִּׁים הַזְּכָרִים. יאוּמִבְּנֵי בֵבַי זְכַרְיָה בֶּן בֵּבָי; וְעִמּוֹ עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁמֹנָה הַזְּכָרִים. יבוּמִבְּנֵי עַזְגָּד יוֹחָנָן בֶּן הַקָּטָן; וְעִמּוֹ מֵאָה וַעֲשָׂרָה הַזְּכָרִים. יגוּמִבְּנֵי אֲדֹנִיקָם אַחֲרֹנִים וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹתָם אֱלִיפֶלֶט יְעִיאֵל וּשְׁמַעְיָה; וְעִמָּהֶם שִׁשִּׁים הַזְּכָרִים. ידוּמִבְּנֵי בִגְוַי עוּתַי וזבוד (וְזַכּוּר); וְעִמּוֹ שִׁבְעִים הַזְּכָרִים.
טווָאֶקְבְּצֵם אֶל הַנָּהָר הַבָּא אֶל אַהֲוָא וַנַּחֲנֶה שָׁם יָמִים שְׁלֹשָׁה; וָאָבִינָה בָעָם וּבַכֹּהֲנִים וּמִבְּנֵי לֵוִי לֹא מָצָאתִי שָׁם. טזוָאֶשְׁלְחָה לֶאֱלִיעֶזֶר לַאֲרִיאֵל לִשְׁמַעְיָה וּלְאֶלְנָתָן וּלְיָרִיב וּלְאֶלְנָתָן וּלְנָתָן וְלִזְכַרְיָה וְלִמְשֻׁלָּם רָאשִׁים; וּלְיוֹיָרִיב וּלְאֶלְנָתָן מְבִינִים. יזואוצאה (וָאֲצַוֶּה) אוֹתָם עַל אִדּוֹ הָרֹאשׁ בְּכָסִפְיָא הַמָּקוֹם; וָאָשִׂימָה בְּפִיהֶם דְּבָרִים לְדַבֵּר אֶל אִדּוֹ אָחִיו הנתונים (הַנְּתִינִים) בְּכָסִפְיָא הַמָּקוֹם לְהָבִיא לָנוּ מְשָׁרְתִים לְבֵית אֱלֹהֵינוּ. יחוַיָּבִיאּוּ לָנוּ כְּיַד אֱלֹהֵינוּ הַטּוֹבָה עָלֵינוּ אִישׁ שֶׂכֶל מִבְּנֵי מַחְלִי בֶּן לֵוִי בֶּן יִשְׂרָאֵל; וְשֵׁרֵבְיָה וּבָנָיו וְאֶחָיו שְׁמֹנָה עָשָׂר. יטוְאֶת חֲשַׁבְיָה וְאִתּוֹ יְשַׁעְיָה מִבְּנֵי מְרָרִי: אֶחָיו וּבְנֵיהֶם עֶשְׂרִים. כוּמִן הַנְּתִינִים שֶׁנָּתַן דָּוִיד וְהַשָּׂרִים לַעֲבֹדַת הַלְוִיִּם נְתִינִים מָאתַיִם וְעֶשְׂרִים: כֻּלָּם נִקְּבוּ בְשֵׁמוֹת. כאוָאֶקְרָא שָׁם צוֹם עַל הַנָּהָר אַהֲוָא לְהִתְעַנּוֹת לִפְנֵי אֱלֹהֵינוּ לְבַקֵּשׁ מִמֶּנּוּ דֶּרֶךְ יְשָׁרָה לָנוּ וּלְטַפֵּנוּ וּלְכָל רְכוּשֵׁנוּ. כבכִּי בֹשְׁתִּי לִשְׁאוֹל מִן הַמֶּלֶךְ חַיִל וּפָרָשִׁים לְעָזְרֵנוּ מֵאוֹיֵב בַּדָּרֶךְ: כִּי אָמַרְנוּ לַמֶּלֶךְ לֵאמֹר יַד אֱלֹהֵינוּ עַל כָּל מְבַקְשָׁיו לְטוֹבָה וְעֻזּוֹ וְאַפּוֹ עַל כָּל עֹזְבָיו. כגוַנָּצוּמָה וַנְּבַקְשָׁה מֵאֱלֹהֵינוּ עַל זֹאת; וַיֵּעָתֵר לָנוּ. כדוָאַבְדִּילָה מִשָּׂרֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר לְשֵׁרֵבְיָה חֲשַׁבְיָה וְעִמָּהֶם מֵאֲחֵיהֶם עֲשָׂרָה. כהואשקולה (וָאֶשְׁקֳלָה) לָהֶם אֶת הַכֶּסֶף וְאֶת הַזָּהָב וְאֶת הַכֵּלִים תְּרוּמַת בֵּית אֱלֹהֵינוּ הַהֵרִימוּ הַמֶּלֶךְ וְיֹעֲצָיו וְשָׂרָיו וְכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל הַנִּמְצָאִים. כווָאֶשְׁקְלָה עַל יָדָם כֶּסֶף כִּכָּרִים שֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת וַחֲמִשִּׁים וּכְלֵי כֶסֶף מֵאָה לְכִכָּרִים; זָהָב מֵאָה כִכָּר. כזוּכְפֹרֵי זָהָב עֶשְׂרִים לַאֲדַרְכֹנִים אָלֶף; וּכְלֵי נְחֹשֶׁת מֻצְהָב טוֹבָה שְׁנַיִם חֲמוּדֹת כַּזָּהָב. כחוָאֹמְרָה אֲלֵהֶם אַתֶּם קֹדֶשׁ לַיהוה וְהַכֵּלִים קֹדֶשׁ; וְהַכֶּסֶף וְהַזָּהָב נְדָבָה לַיהוה אֱלֹהֵי אֲבֹתֵיכֶם. כטשִׁקְדוּ וְשִׁמְרוּ עַד תִּשְׁקְלוּ לִפְנֵי שָׂרֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם וְשָׂרֵי הָאָבוֹת לְיִשְׂרָאֵל בִּירוּשָׁלִָם: הַלִּשְׁכוֹת בֵּית יהוה . לוְקִבְּלוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם מִשְׁקַל הַכֶּסֶף וְהַזָּהָב וְהַכֵּלִים לְהָבִיא לִירוּשָׁלִַם לְבֵית אֱלֹהֵינוּ.
לאוַנִּסְּעָה מִנְּהַר אַהֲוָא בִּשְׁנֵים עָשָׂר לַחֹדֶשׁ הָרִאשׁוֹן לָלֶכֶת יְרוּשָׁלִָם; וְיַד אֱלֹהֵינוּ הָיְתָה עָלֵינוּ וַיַּצִּילֵנוּ מִכַּף אוֹיֵב וְאוֹרֵב עַל הַדָּרֶךְ. לבוַנָּבוֹא יְרוּשָׁלִָם; וַנֵּשֶׁב שָׁם יָמִים שְׁלֹשָׁה. לגוּבַיּוֹם הָרְבִיעִי נִשְׁקַל הַכֶּסֶף וְהַזָּהָב וְהַכֵּלִים בְּבֵית אֱלֹהֵינוּ עַל יַד מְרֵמוֹת בֶּן אוּרִיָּה הַכֹּהֵן וְעִמּוֹ אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן פִּינְחָס; וְעִמָּהֶם יוֹזָבָד בֶּן יֵשׁוּעַ וְנוֹעַדְיָה בֶן בִּנּוּי הַלְוִיִּם. לדבְּמִסְפָּר בְּמִשְׁקָל לַכֹּל; וַיִּכָּתֵב כָּל הַמִּשְׁקָל בָּעֵת הַהִיא.
לההַבָּאִים מֵהַשְּׁבִי בְנֵי הַגּוֹלָה הִקְרִיבוּ עֹלוֹת לֵאלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל פָּרִים שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר עַל כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל אֵילִים תִּשְׁעִים וְשִׁשָּׁה כְּבָשִׂים שִׁבְעִים וְשִׁבְעָה צְפִירֵי חַטָּאת שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר: הַכֹּל עוֹלָה לַיהוה .
לווַיִּתְּנוּ אֶת דָּתֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ לַאֲחַשְׁדַּרְפְּנֵי הַמֶּלֶךְ וּפַחֲווֹת עֵבֶר הַנָּהָר; וְנִשְּׂאוּ אֶת הָעָם וְאֶת בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים.
