Melakhim Alef 22 – מלכים א פרק כב

1And they continued three years without war between Aram and Yisra’el.

2And it came to pass in the third year, that Yehoshafat Melekh Yehudah came down to the king of Yisra’el. 3And the king of Yisra’el said unto his servants, “You know  that Ramot Gilad is ours, and we are still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Aram?” 4And he said unto Yehoshafat, “Will you go with me to battle to Ramot Gilad?” And Yehoshafat said to the king of Yisra’el, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” 5And Yehoshafat said unto the king of Yisra’el, “Inquire, I pray, of the D’var  יהוה  today.” 6Then the king of Yisra’el gathered the prophets together, about  four  hundred  men, and said unto them, “Shall I go against Ramot Gilad to battle, or shall I forbear?” And they said, “Go up; for  יהוה  will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 7But Yehoshafat said, “Is there not here besides a Navi of  יהוה , that we might inquire of him?” 8And the king of Yisra’el said unto Yehoshafat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of  יהוה , Mikhah-Yahu Ben Yimlah; but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” And Yehoshafat said, “Let not the king say so.” 9Then the king of Yisra’el called an officer, and said, “Fetch quickly Mikhah-Yahu Ben Yimlah.” 10Now the king of Yisra’el and Yehoshafat Melekh Yehudah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in a threshing-floor, at the entrance of the gate of Shomron; and all the prophets prophesied before them. 11And Tzidkiyah Ben Kena’anah made him horns of iron, and said, “Thus says  יהוה , ‘With these shall you gore Aram, until they are consumed’.” 12And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramot Gilad, and prosper; for  יהוה  will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 13And the messenger that went to call Mikhah-Yahu spoke unto him, saying, “Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth, let your word, I pray, be like the word of one of them, and you, speak good.” 14And Mikhah-Yahu said, “As  יהוה  lives, what  יהוה  says unto me, that will I speak.”

15And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, “Mikhah-Yahu, shall we go to Ramot Gilad to battle, or shall we forbear?” And he answered him, “Go up, and prosper; and  יהוה  will deliver it into the hand of the king.” 16And the king said unto him, “How many times shall I adjure you that you speak unto me nothing but the truth in the Name of  יהוה ?” And17 he said, “I saw all Yisra’el scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd; and  יהוה  said, ‘These have no master; let them return every man to his house in shalom’.” 18And the king of Yisra’el said to Yehoshafat, “Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

19And he said, “Therefore hear you the D’var  יהוה . I saw  יהוה  sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right hand and on his left. 20And  יהוה  said, ‘Who shall entice Akhav, that he may go up and fall at Ramot Gilad’. And one said, ‘On this manner’; and another said, ‘On that manner’. 21And there came forth a ru’akh, and stood before  יהוה , and said, ‘I will entice him’. 22And  יהוה  said unto him, ‘How’? And he said, ‘I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said, ‘You shall entice him, and shall prevail also; go forth, and do so’. 23Now therefore, behold,  יהוה  has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and  יהוה  has spoken evil concerning you.” 24Then Tzidkiyah Ben Kena’anah came near, and smote Mikhah-Yahu on the cheek, and said, “Which way did the ruakh go from  יהוה  from me to speak unto you?” 25And Mikhah-Yahu said, “Behold, you shall see on that day, when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.”  26And the king of Yisra’el said, “Take Mikhah-Yahu, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Yo’ash the king’s son; 27and say, ‘Thus says the king, ‘Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with scant bread and with scant water, until I come in shalom.”” 28And Mikhah-Yahu said, “If you return at all in shalom,  יהוה  has not spoken by me.” And he said, “Hear, you peoples, all of you.”

29So the king of Yisra’el and Yehoshafat Melekh Yehudah went up to Ramot Gilad. 30And the king of Yisra’el said unto Yehoshafat, “I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes.” And the king of Yisra’el disguised himself, and went into the battle. 31Now the king of Aram had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, “Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Yisra’el.” 32And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Yehoshafat, that they said, “Surely it is the king of Yisra’el’; and they turned aside to fight against him; and Yehoshafat cried out. 33And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Yisra’el, that they turned back from pursuing him. 34And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Yisra’el between the lower armor and the breastplate; therefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, “Turn your hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.” 35And the battle increased that day; and the king was stayed up in his chariot against Aram, and died at evening; and the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot. 36And there went a cry throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country.”

37So the king died, and was brought to Shomron; and they buried the king in Shomron. 38And they washed the chariot by the pool of Shomron; and the dogs licked up his blood; the harlots also washed themselves there; according unto the D’var  יהוה  which He spoke. 39Now the rest of the acts of Akhav, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra’el? 40So Akhav slept with his fathers; and Akhaz-Yahu his son reigned in his stead.

41And Yehoshafat Ben Asa began to reign over Yehudah in the fourth year of Akhav king of Yisra’el. 42Yehoshafat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Yerushalayim. And his mother’s name was Azuvah Bat Shilkhi. 43And he walked in all the way of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of  יהוה ; however44 the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and offered in the high places. 45And Yehoshafat made shalom with the king of Yisra’el. 46Now the rest of the acts of Yehoshafat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of Melekhei Yehudah? 47And the remnant of the temple prostitutes that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land. 48And there was no king in Edom: a deputy was king. 49Yehoshafat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ofir for gold; but they went not; for the ships were broken at Etziyon Gever. 50Then said Akhaz-Yahu Ben Akhav unto Yehoshafat, “Let my servants go with your servants in the ships.” But Yehoshafat would not. 51And Yehoshafat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Yehoram his son reigned in his stead.

52Akhaz-Yahu Ben Akhav began to reign over Yisra’el in Shomron in the seventeenth year of Yehoshafat Melekh Yehudah, and he reigned two years over Yisra’el. 53And he did that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה , and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Yaravam Ben Nevat, wherein he made Yisra’el to sin. 54And he served Ba’al, and worshipped him, and provoked  יהוה  Elohei Yisra’el, according to all that his father had done.
