Melakhim Alef 14 – מלכים א פרק יד

1At that time Avi-Yah Ben Yaravam fell sick. 2And Yaravam said to his wife, “Arise, I pray, and disguise yourself, that you be not known to be the wife of Yaravam; and get to Shiloh; behold, there is Akhi-Yah HaNavi, who spoke concerning me that I should be king over this people. 3And take with you ten loaves, and biscuits, and a cruse of honey, and go to him; he will tell you what shall become of the child.” 4And Yaravam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Akhi-Yah. Now Akhi-Yah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

5Now  יהוה  had said unto Akhi-Yah, “Behold, the wife of Yaravam comes to inquire of you concerning her son; for he is sick; thus and thus shall you say unto her; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will feign herself to be another woman.” 6And it was so, when Akhi-Yah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, “Come in, you wife of Yaravam; why do you feign yourself to be another?  For I am sent to you with heavy tidings. 7Go, tell Yaravam, ‘Thus says  יהוה  Elohei Yisra’el, ‘Forasmuch as I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over My people Yisra’el, 8and rent the kingdom away from Beit David, and gave it you; and yet you have not been as My servant David, who kept My Mitzvot, and who followed Me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in My eyes; 9but have done evil above all that were before you, and have gone and made you other gods, and molten images, to provoke Me, and have cast Me behind your back; 10therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Yaravam, and will cut off from Yaravam every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Yisra’el, and will utterly sweep away the house of Yaravam, as a man sweeps away dung, till it is all gone. 11Him that dies of Yaravam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat; for  יהוה  has spoken it. 12Arise, therefore, get to your house; and when your feet enter into the city, the child shall die. 13And all Yisra’el shall make lamentation for him, and bury him; for he only of Yaravam shall come to the grave; because in him there is found some good thing toward  יהוה  Elohei Yisra’el, in the house of Yaravam. 14Moreover  יהוה  will raise Him up a king over Yisra’el, who shall cut off the house of Yaravam that day. But what is it even then? 15For  יהוה  will smite Yisra’el, as a reed is shaken in the water; and He will root up Yisra’el out of this good land, which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River; because they have made their Asherim, provoking  יהוה.  And16 He will give Yisra’el up because of the sins of Yaravam, which he has sinned, and wherewith he has made Yisra’el to sin.”” 17And Yaravam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirtzatah; and as she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. 18And all Yisra’el buried him, and made lamentation for him; according to the D’var  יהוה , which He spoke by the hand of His servant Akhi-Yah HaNavi. 19And the rest of the acts of Yaravam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra’el. 20And the days which Yaravam reigned were twenty-two years; and he slept with his fathers, and Nadav his son reigned in his stead.

21And Rekhavam Ben Shlomo reigned in Yehudah. Rekhavam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Yerushalayim, the city which  יהוה  had chosen out of all the tribes of Yisra’el, to put His Name there; and his mother’s name was Na’amah the Amonit. 22And Yehudah did that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה ; and they moved Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done. 23For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every evergreen tree; 24and there were also temple prostitutes in the land; they did according to all the abominations of the nations which  יהוה  drove out before the children of Yisra’el.

25And it came to pass in the fifth year of Melekh Rekhavam, that Shishak king of Mitzrayim came up against Yerushalayim; 26and he took away the treasures of Beit  יהוה , and the treasures of the house of HaMelekh; he even took away all; and he took away all the shields of gold which Shlomo had made. 27And Melekh Rekhavam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the house of HaMelekh. 28And it was so, that as often as HaMelekh went into Beit  יהוה , the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.  29Now the rest of the acts of Rekhavam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the Melakhim of Yehudah? 30And there was war between Rekhavam and Yaravam continually. 31And Rekhavam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and his mother’s name was Na’amah the Amonit. And Aviyam his son reigned in his stead.
