Melakhim Alef 21 – מלכים א פרק כא

1And it came to pass after these things, that Navot the Yizreili had a vineyard, which was in Yizreil, hard by the palace of Akhav, king of Shomron. 2And Akhav spoke unto Navot, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house; and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seems good to you, I will give you the worth of it in money.” 3And Navot said to Akhav, ” יהוה  forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto you.”

4And Akhav came into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Navot the Yizreili had spoken to him; for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he laid himself down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread. 5But Izavel his wife came to him, and said unto him, “Why is your spirit so sullen, that you eat no bread?” 6And he said unto her, “Because I spoke unto Navot the Yizreili, and said unto him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it’; and he answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard’.” 7And Izavel his wife said unto him, “Do you now govern the kingdom of Yisra’el? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry; I will give you the vineyard of Navot the Yizreili.”

8So she wrote letters in Akhav’s name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, and that dwelt with Navot. 9And she wrote in the letters, saying, “Proclaim a fast, and set Navot at the head of the people; 10and set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them bear witness against him, saying, ‘You cursed Elohim, and the king’. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he dies.” 11And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Izavel had sent unto them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. 12They proclaimed a fast, and set Navot at the head of the people. 13And the two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him; and the base fellows bore witness against him, even against Navot, in the presence of the people, saying, “Navot did curse Elohim and the king.” Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died. 14Then they sent to Izavel, saying, “Navot is stoned, and is dead.” 15And it came to pass, when Izavel heard that Navot was stoned, and was dead, that Izavel said to Akhav, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Navot the Yizreili, which he refused to give you for money; for Navot is not alive, but dead.” 16And it came to pass, when Akhav heard that Navot was dead, that Akhav rose up to go down to the vineyard of Navot the Yizreili, to take possession of it.

17And the D’var  יהוה  came to Eli-Yahu HaTishbi, saying, 18“Arise, go down to meet Akhav king of Yisra’el, who dwells in Shomron; behold, he is in the vineyard of Navot, where he is gone down to take possession of it. 19And you shall speak unto him, saying, ‘Thus says  יהוה , ‘Have you killed, and also taken possessions?” And you shall speak unto him, saying, ‘Thus says  יהוה , ‘In the place where dogs licked the blood of Navot shall dogs lick your blood, even yours.””

20And Akhav said to Eli-Yahu, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” And he answered, “I have found you; because you have given yourself over to do that which is evil in the sight of  יהוה . Behold21, I will bring evil upon you, and will utterly sweep you away, and will cut off from Akhav every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Yisra’el. 22And I will make your house like the house of Yaravam Ben Nevat, and like the house of Ba’asah Ben Akhi-Yah, for the provocation wherewith you have provoked Me, and have made Yisra’el to sin.” 23And of Izavel also spoke  יהוה , saying, “The dogs shall eat Izavel in the moat of Yizreil. 24Him that dies of Akhav in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.”

25But there was none like unto Akhav, who did give himself over to do that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה , whom Izavel his wife stirred up. 26And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amori did, whom  יהוה  cast out before B’nei Yisra’el.

27And it came to pass, when Akhav heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

28And the D’var  יהוה  came to Eli-Yahu HaTishbi, saying, 29“Do you see how Akhav humbles himself before Me? Because he humbles himself before Me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.”
