Melakhim Bet 8 – מלכים ב פרק ח

1Now Elisha had spoken unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise, and go, you and your household, and sojourn wherever you can sojourn; for  יהוה  has called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.” 2And the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of Elohim; and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the P’lishtim seven years. 3And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the P’lishtim; and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land. 4Now the king was talking with Gekhazi the servant of the man of Elohim, saying, “Tell me, I pray, all the great things that Elisha has done.”

5And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored to life him that was dead, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gekhazi said, “My Adon, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.” 6And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.”

7And Elisha came to Damesek; and Ben Hadad the king of Aram was sick; and it was told him, saying. ‘The man of Elohim is come here.” 8And the king said unto Khaza’el, “Take a present in your hand, and go meet the man of Elohim, and inquire of  יהוה  by him, saying, ‘Shall I recover of this sickness?’ ” 9So Khaza’el went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damesek, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben Hadad king of Aram has sent me to you, saying, ‘Shall I recover of this sickness?’ ” 10And Elisha said unto him, “Go, say unto him, You shall surely recover; however,  יהוה  has shown me that he shall surely die.” 11And he settled his countenance stedfastly upon him, until he was ashamed; and the man of Elohim wept. 12And Khaza’el said, “Why do you weep, my Adon?” And he answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do unto B’nei Yisra’el: their strongholds will you set on fire, and their young men will you slay with the sword, and will dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child.” 13And Khaza’el said, “But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he should do this great thing?” And Elisha answered, ” יהוה  has shown me that you shall be king over Aram.” 14Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” And he answered, “He told me that you would surely recover.” 15And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died; and Khaza’el reigned in his stead.

16And in the fifth year of Yoram Ben Akhav king of Yisra’el, Yehoshafat being Melekh Yehudah, Yehoram Ben Yehoshafat Melekh Yehudah began to reign. 17Thirty-two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Yerushalayim. 18And he walked in the way of the kings of Yisra’el, as did the house of Akhav; for he had the daughter of Akhav as a wife; and he did that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה . However,19 יהוה  would not destroy Yehudah, for David His servant’s sake, as He promised him to give unto him a lamp to his children always. 20In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Yehudah, and made a king over themselves. 21Then Yoram passed over to Tza’irah, and all his chariots with him; and he rose up by night, and smote Edom that encompassed him about, and the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents. 22Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Yehudah, unto this day. Then did Livnah revolt at the same time. 23And the rest of the acts of Yoram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of HaMelakhim Yehudah? 24And Yoram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Akhaz-Yah his son reigned in his stead.

25In the twelfth year of Yoram Ben Akhav king of Yisra’el did Akhaz-Yah Ben Yehoram Melekh Yehudah begin to reign. 26Twenty-two years old was Akhaz-Yah when he began to reign;  and he reigned one year  in Yerushalayim.  And his mother’s name was Atal-Yahu Bat Omri king of Yisra’el. 27And he walked in the way of the house of Akhav, and did that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה , as did the house of Akhav; for he was the son-in-law of the house of Akhav. 28And he went with Yoram Ben Akhav to war against Khaza’el king of Aram at Ramot Gilad; and Aram wounded Yoram. 29And king Yoram returned to be healed in Yizreil of the wounds which the Aramim had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Khaza’el king of Aram.  And Akhaz-Yah Ben Yehoram Melekh Yehudah went down to see Yoram Ben Akhav in Yizreil, because he was sick.
