Melakhim Bet 14 – מלכים ב פרק יד

1In  the  second  year  of  Yo’ash  Ben  Yeho’az,  king  of  Yisra’el, Amatz-Yahu Ben Yo’ashMelekh Yehudah began to reign. 2He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Yerushalayim; and his mother’s name was Yeho’adan of Yerushalayim. 3And he did that which was right in the eyes of  יהוה , yet not like David his father; he did according to all that Yo’ash his father had done. 4However, the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and offered in the high places. 5And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had slain the king his father; 6but the children of the murderers he did not put to death; according to that which is written in the Sefer Torat Moshe, as  יהוה  commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor shall the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.” 7He slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Yoktel, unto this day.

8Then Amatz-Yahu sent messengers to Yeho’ash Ben Yeho’akhatz Ben Yehu, king of Yisra’el, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.” 9And Yeho’ash the king of Yisra’el sent to Amatz-Yahu Melekh Yehudah, saying, “The thistle that was in Levanon sent to the cedar that was in Levanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as a wife’; and there passed by the wild beasts that were in Levanon, and trod down the thistle. 10You have indeed smitten Edom, and will your heart lift you up? Glory therein, and remain at home; for why should you meddle with evil, that you should fall, even you, and Yehudah with you?” 11But Amatz-Yahu would not hear. So Yeho’ash king of Yisra’el went up; and he and Amatz-Yahu Melekh Yehudah looked one another in the face at Beit Shemesh, which belongs to Yehudah. 12And Yehudah was put to the worse before Yisra’el; and they fled every man to his tent. 13And Yeho’ash king of Yisra’el took Amatz-Yahu Melekh Yehudah Ben Yeho’ash, Ben Akhaz-Yahu, at Beit Shemesh, and came to Yerushalayim, and broke down the wall of Yerushalayim from the gate of Efrayim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits. 14And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in Beit  יהוה , and in the treasures of the house of HaMelekh, the hostages also, and returned to Shomron. 15Now the rest of the acts of Yeho’ash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amatz-Yahu Melekh Yehudah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra’el? 16And Yeho’ash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Shomron with the kings of Yisra’el; and Yaravam his son reigned in his stead.

17And Amatz-Yahu Ben Yo’ash Melekh Yehudah lived after the death of Yeho’ash Ben Yeho’akhaz king of Yisra’el fifteen years. 18Now the rest of the acts of Amatz-Yahu, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of HaMelakhim Yehudah? 19And they made a conspiracy against him in Yerushalayim; and he fled to Lakhisha; but they sent after him to Lakhisha, and slew him there. 20And they brought him upon horses; and he was buried at Yerushalayim with his fathers in the city of David. 21And all the people of Yehudah took Azar-Yahu, who was sixteen years old, and made him Melekh in the room of his father Amatz-Yahu. 22He built Elat, and restored it to Yehudah, after that the Melekh slept with his fathers.

23In the fifteenth year of Amatz-Yahu Ben Yo’ash, Melekh Yehudah, Yaravam Ben Yo’ash king of Yisra’el began to reign in Shomron, and reigned forty-one years. 24And he did that which was evil in the sight of  יהוה ; he departed not from all the sins of Yaravam Ben Nevat, wherewith he made Yisra’el to sin. 25He restored the border of Yisra’el from the entrance of Khamat unto the sea of the Aravah, according to the D’var  יהוה  Elohei Yisra’el, which He spoke by the hand of His servant Yonah Ben Amitai, HaNavi, who was of Gat HaKhefer. 26For  יהוה  saw the affliction of Yisra’el, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Yisra’el. 27And  יהוה  said not that He would blot out the name of Yisra’el from under heaven; but He saved them by the hand of Yaravam Ben Yo’ash. 28Now the rest of the acts of Yaravam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred,  and how he recovered Damesek,  and Khamat,  for Yehudah in Yisra’el, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra’el? 29And Yaravam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Yisra’el; and Zekhar-Yah his son reigned in his stead.
