1Hear now what יהוה says, “Arise, contend before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. 2Hear, O you mountains, the controversy of יהוה , and you enduring rocks, the foundations of the earth; for יהוה has a controversy with His people, and He will plead with Yisra’el. 3O My people, what have I done unto you? And wherein have I wearied you? Testify against Me. 4For I brought you up out of the land of Mitzrayim, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, and I sent before you Moshe, Aharon, and Miryam. 5O My people, remember now what Balak king of Mo’av devised, and what Bilam the son of Be’or answered him; from Shittim unto Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of יהוה . With6 what shall I come before יהוה , and bow myself before Elohim on high? Shall I come before Him with Olot, with calves of a year old? 7Will יהוה be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?’ 8It has been told you, O man, what is good, and what יהוה does require of you, only to do justly, and to love compassion, and to walk humbly with your Elohim. end Balak 9‘Hark!’ יהוה cries unto the city. And it is wisdom to have regard for Your Name. ‘Hear the rod, and who has appointed it.’ 10Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? 11Shall I be pure with wicked balances, and with a bag of deceitful weights? 12For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. 13Therefore I also do smite you with a grievous wound; I do make you desolate because of your sins. 14You shall eat, but not be satisfied; and your sickness shall be in your inward parts; and you shall conceive, but shall not bring forth; and whomever you bring forth will I give up to the sword. 15You shall sow, but shall not reap; you shall tread the olives, but shall not anoint yourself with oil; and the vintage, but shall not drink wine. 16For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Akhav, and you walk in their counsels; that I may make you an astonishment, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing; and you shall bear the reproach of My people.”
