1Then Elyashiv the Kohen HaGadol rose up with his brethren the Kohanim, and they built the sheep gate; they hallowed it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Hame’ah they hallowed it, unto the tower of Khananel. 2And next unto him built the men of Yerekho. And next to them built Zakur Ben Imri. 3And the fish gate did the sons of Hasena’ah build; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof. 4And next unto them repaired Meremot Ben Uri-Yah, Ben Hakotz. And next unto them repaired Meshulam Ben Berekh-Yah, Ben Meshezavel. And next unto them repaired Tzadok Ben Ba’anah. 5And next unto them the Teko’im repaired; and their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Adon. 6And the gate of the old city repaired Yoyada Ben Pase’akh and Meshulam Ben Besod-Yah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof. 7And next unto them repaired Melat-Yah the Givoni, and Yadon the Meronoti, the men of Givon, and of Mitzpah, for them that appertained to the throne of the governor beyond the River. 8Next unto him repaired Uzi’el Ben Kharha-Yah, goldsmiths. And next unto him repaired Khanan-Yah one of the perfumers, and they restored Yerushalayim even unto the broad wall. 9And next unto them repaired Refa-Yah Ben Khur, the ruler of half the district of Yerushalayim. 10And next unto them repaired Yeda-Yah Ben Kharumaf, even over against his house. And next unto him repaired Khatush Ben Khashavne-Yah. 11Malkhi-Yah Ben Kharim, and Khashuv Ben Pakhat Mo’av, repaired another portion, and the tower of the furnaces. 12And next unto him repaired Shalum Ben Halolesh, the ruler of half the district of Yerushalayim, he and his daughters. 13The valley gate repaired Khanun, and the inhabitants of Zano’akh; they built it, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof, and a thousand cubits of the wall unto the dung gate. 14And the dung gate repaired Malkhi-Yah Ben Rekhav, the ruler of the district of Beit HaKarem; he built it, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof. 15And the fountain gate repaired Shalun Ben Kol Khozeh, the ruler of the district of Mitzpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the bolts thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the pool of Shelah by Gan HaMelekh, even unto the stairs that go down from the city of David. 16After him repaired Nekhem-Yah Ben Azbuk, the ruler of half the district of Beit Tzur, unto the place over against the tombs of David, and unto the pool that was made, and unto the house of the mighty men. 17After him repaired the Levi’im, Rekhum Ben Bani. Next unto him repaired Khashav-Yah, the ruler of half the district of Ke’ilah, for his district. 18After him repaired their brethren, Bavai Ben Khenadad, the ruler of half the district of Ke’ilah. 19And next to him repaired Ezer Ben Yeshua, the ruler of Mitzpah, another portion, over against the ascent to the armory at the Turning. 20After him Barukh Ben Zakai earnestly repaired another portion, from the Turning unto the door of the house of Elyashiv the Kohen HaGadol. 21After him repaired Meremot Ben Uri-Yah Ben Hakotz another portion, from the door of the house of Elyashiv even to the end of the house of Elyashiv. 22And after him repaired the Kohanim, the men of the Plain. 23After them repaired Binyamin and Khashuv over against their house. After them repaired Azar-Yah Ben Ma’asei-Yah Ben Anan-Yah beside his own house. 24After him repaired Binui Ben Khenadad another portion, from the house of Azar-Yah unto the Turning and unto the corner. 25Palal Ben Uzai repaired over against the Turning, and the tower that stands out from the upper house of HaMelekh, which is by the court of the guard. After him Peda-Yah Ben Parosh repaired.
26Now the Netinim dwelt in Ofel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that stands out.
27After him the Teko’im repaired another portion, over against the great tower that stands out, and unto the wall of Ofel. 28Above the horse gate repaired the Kohanim, every one over against his own house. 29After them repaired Tzadok Ben Imer over against his own house. And after him repaired Shema-Yah Ben Shekhan-Yah, the keeper of the east gate. 30After him repaired Khanan-Yah Ben Shelem-Yah, and Khanun the sixth son of Tzalaf, another portion. After him repaired Meshulam Ben Berekh-Yah over against his chamber. 31After him repaired Malkhi-Yah one of the goldsmiths unto the house of the Netinim, and of the merchants, over against the gate of Hamifkad, and to the upper chamber of the corner. 32And between the upper chamber of the corner and the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants.
33But it came to pass that, when Sanvalat heard that we built the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Yehudim. 34And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Shomron, and said, “What are these feeble Yehudim doing? Will they restore at will? Will they sacrifice? Will they make an end this day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burned?” 35Now Tov-Yah the Amoni was by him, and he said, “Even that which they build, if a fox goes up, he shall break down their stone wall.”
36“Hear, O our Elohim; for we are despised; and turn back their reproach upon their own head, and give them up to spoiling in a land of captivity; 37and cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before You; for they have vexed You before the builders.” 38So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto half the height thereof; for the people had a mind to work.
אוַיָּקָם אֶלְיָשִׁיב הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל וְאֶחָיו הַכֹּהֲנִים וַיִּבְנוּ אֶת שַׁעַר הַצֹּאן הֵמָּה קִדְּשׁוּהוּ וַיַּעֲמִידוּ דַּלְתֹתָיו; וְעַד מִגְדַּל הַמֵּאָה קִדְּשׁוּהוּ עַד מִגְדַּל חֲנַנְאֵל. בוְעַל יָדוֹ בָנוּ אַנְשֵׁי יְרֵחוֹ; וְעַל יָדוֹ בָנָה זַכּוּר בֶּן אִמְרִי. גוְאֵת שַׁעַר הַדָּגִים בָּנוּ בְּנֵי הַסְּנָאָה; הֵמָּה קֵרוּהוּ וַיַּעֲמִידוּ דַּלְתֹתָיו מַנְעוּלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו. דוְעַל יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק מְרֵמוֹת בֶּן אוּרִיָּה בֶּן הַקּוֹץ וְעַל יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק מְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן בֶּרֶכְיָה בֶּן מְשֵׁיזַבְאֵל; וְעַל יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק צָדוֹק בֶּן בַּעֲנָא. הוְעַל יָדָם הֶחֱזִיקוּ הַתְּקוֹעִים; וְאַדִּירֵיהֶם לֹא הֵבִיאוּ צַוָּרָם בַּעֲבֹדַת אֲדֹנֵיהֶם. ווְאֵת שַׁעַר הַיְשָׁנָה הֶחֱזִיקוּ יוֹיָדָע בֶּן פָּסֵחַ וּמְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן בְּסוֹדְיָה; הֵמָּה קֵרוּהוּ וַיַּעֲמִידוּ דַּלְתֹתָיו וּמַנְעֻלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו. זוְעַל יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק מְלַטְיָה הַגִּבְעֹנִי וְיָדוֹן הַמֵּרֹנֹתִי אַנְשֵׁי גִבְעוֹן וְהַמִּצְפָּה לְכִסֵּא פַּחַת עֵבֶר הַנָּהָר. חעַל יָדוֹ הֶחֱזִיק עֻזִּיאֵל בֶּן חַרְהֲיָה צוֹרְפִים וְעַל יָדוֹ הֶחֱזִיק חֲנַנְיָה בֶּן הָרַקָּחִים; וַיַּעַזְבוּ יְרוּשָׁלִַם עַד הַחוֹמָה הָרְחָבָה. טוְעַל יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק רְפָיָה בֶן חוּר שַׂר חֲצִי פֶּלֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָם. יוְעַל יָדָם הֶחֱזִיק יְדָיָה בֶן חֲרוּמַף וְנֶגֶד בֵּיתוֹ; וְעַל יָדוֹ הֶחֱזִיק חַטּוּשׁ בֶּן חֲשַׁבְנְיָה. יאמִדָּה שֵׁנִית הֶחֱזִיק מַלְכִּיָּה בֶן חָרִם וְחַשּׁוּב בֶּן פַּחַת מוֹאָב; וְאֵת מִגְדַּל הַתַּנּוּרִים. יבוְעַל יָדוֹ הֶחֱזִיק שַׁלּוּם בֶּן הַלּוֹחֵשׁ שַׂר חֲצִי פֶּלֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָם; הוּא וּבְנוֹתָיו. יגאֵת שַׁעַר הַגַּיְא הֶחֱזִיק חָנוּן וְיֹשְׁבֵי זָנוֹחַ הֵמָּה בָנוּהוּ וַיַּעֲמִידוּ דַּלְתֹתָיו מַנְעֻלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו; וְאֶלֶף אַמָּה בַּחוֹמָה עַד שַׁעַר הָשְׁפוֹת. ידוְאֵת שַׁעַר הָאַשְׁפּוֹת הֶחֱזִיק מַלְכִּיָּה בֶן רֵכָב שַׂר פֶּלֶךְ בֵּית הַכָּרֶם; הוּא יִבְנֶנּוּ וְיַעֲמִיד דַּלְתֹתָיו מַנְעֻלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו. טווְאֵת שַׁעַר הָעַיִן הֶחֱזִיק שַׁלּוּן בֶּן כָּל חֹזֶה שַׂר פֶּלֶךְ הַמִּצְפָּה הוּא יִבְנֶנּוּ וִיטַלְלֶנּוּ ויעמידו (וְיַעֲמִיד) דַּלְתֹתָיו מַנְעֻלָיו וּבְרִיחָיו; וְאֵת חוֹמַת בְּרֵכַת הַשֶּׁלַח לְגַן הַמֶּלֶךְ וְעַד הַמַּעֲלוֹת הַיּוֹרְדוֹת מֵעִיר דָּוִיד. טזאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק נְחֶמְיָה בֶן עַזְבּוּק שַׂר חֲצִי פֶּלֶךְ בֵּית צוּר עַד נֶגֶד קִבְרֵי דָוִיד וְעַד הַבְּרֵכָה הָעֲשׂוּיָה וְעַד בֵּית הַגִּבֹּרִים. יזאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיקוּ הַלְוִיִּם רְחוּם בֶּן בָּנִי; עַל יָדוֹ הֶחֱזִיק חֲשַׁבְיָה שַׂר חֲצִי פֶלֶךְ קְעִילָה לְפִלְכּוֹ. יחאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיקוּ אֲחֵיהֶם בַּוַּי בֶּן חֵנָדָד שַׂר חֲצִי פֶּלֶךְ קְעִילָה. יטוַיְחַזֵּק עַל יָדוֹ עֵזֶר בֶּן יֵשׁוּעַ שַׂר הַמִּצְפָּה מִדָּה שֵׁנִית: מִנֶּגֶד עֲלֹת הַנֶּשֶׁק הַמִּקְצֹעַ. כאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱרָה הֶחֱזִיק בָּרוּךְ בֶּן זבי (זַכַּי) מִדָּה שֵׁנִית: מִן הַמִּקְצוֹעַ עַד פֶּתַח בֵּית אֶלְיָשִׁיב הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל. כאאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק מְרֵמוֹת בֶּן אוּרִיָּה בֶּן הַקּוֹץ מִדָּה שֵׁנִית: מִפֶּתַח בֵּית אֶלְיָשִׁיב וְעַד תַּכְלִית בֵּית אֶלְיָשִׁיב. כבוְאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיקוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים אַנְשֵׁי הַכִּכָּר. כגאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק בִּנְיָמִן וְחַשּׁוּב נֶגֶד בֵּיתָם; אַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק עֲזַרְיָה בֶן מַעֲשֵׂיָה בֶּן עֲנָנְיָה אֵצֶל בֵּיתוֹ. כדאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק בִּנּוּי בֶּן חֵנָדָד מִדָּה שֵׁנִית: מִבֵּית עֲזַרְיָה עַד הַמִּקְצוֹעַ וְעַד הַפִּנָּה. כהפָּלָל בֶּן אוּזַי מִנֶּגֶד הַמִּקְצוֹעַ וְהַמִּגְדָּל הַיּוֹצֵא מִבֵּית הַמֶּלֶךְ הָעֶלְיוֹן אֲשֶׁר לַחֲצַר הַמַּטָּרָה; אַחֲרָיו פְּדָיָה בֶן פַּרְעֹשׁ.
כווְהַנְּתִינִים הָיוּ יֹשְׁבִים בָּעֹפֶל: עַד נֶגֶד שַׁעַר הַמַּיִם לַמִּזְרָח וְהַמִּגְדָּל הַיּוֹצֵא.
כזאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיקוּ הַתְּקֹעִים מִדָּה שֵׁנִית: מִנֶּגֶד הַמִּגְדָּל הַגָּדוֹל הַיּוֹצֵא וְעַד חוֹמַת הָעֹפֶל. כחמֵעַל שַׁעַר הַסּוּסִים הֶחֱזִיקוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים אִישׁ לְנֶגֶד בֵּיתוֹ. כטאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק צָדוֹק בֶּן אִמֵּר נֶגֶד בֵּיתוֹ; וְאַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק שְׁמַעְיָה בֶן שְׁכַנְיָה שֹׁמֵר שַׁעַר הַמִּזְרָח. לאחרי (אַחֲרָיו) הֶחֱזִיק חֲנַנְיָה בֶן שֶׁלֶמְיָה וְחָנוּן בֶּן צָלָף הַשִּׁשִּׁי מִדָּה שֵׁנִי; אַחֲרָיו הֶחֱזִיק מְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן בֶּרֶכְיָה נֶגֶד נִשְׁכָּתוֹ. לאאחרי (אַחֲרָיו) הֶחֱזִיק מַלְכִּיָּה בֶּן הַצֹּרְפִי עַד בֵּית הַנְּתִינִים וְהָרֹכְלִים: נֶגֶד שַׁעַר הַמִּפְקָד וְעַד עֲלִיַּת הַפִּנָּה. לבוּבֵין עֲלִיַּת הַפִּנָּה לְשַׁעַר הַצֹּאן הֶחֱזִיקוּ הַצֹּרְפִים וְהָרֹכְלִים.
לגוַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר שָׁמַע סַנְבַלַּט כִּי אֲנַחְנוּ בוֹנִים אֶת הַחוֹמָה וַיִּחַר לוֹ וַיִּכְעַס הַרְבֵּה; וַיַּלְעֵג עַל הַיְּהוּדִים. לדוַיֹּאמֶר לִפְנֵי אֶחָיו וְחֵיל שֹׁמְרוֹן וַיֹּאמֶר מָה הַיְּהוּדִים הָאֲמֵלָלִים עֹשִׂים; הֲיַעַזְבוּ לָהֶם הֲיִזְבָּחוּ הַיְכַלּוּ בַיּוֹם הַיְחַיּוּ אֶת הָאֲבָנִים מֵעֲרֵמוֹת הֶעָפָר וְהֵמָּה שְׂרוּפוֹת. להוְטוֹבִיָּה הָעַמֹּנִי אֶצְלוֹ; וַיֹּאמֶר גַּם אֲשֶׁר הֵם בּוֹנִים אִם יַעֲלֶה שׁוּעָל וּפָרַץ חוֹמַת אַבְנֵיהֶם.
לושְׁמַע אֱלֹהֵינוּ כִּי הָיִינוּ בוּזָה וְהָשֵׁב חֶרְפָּתָם אֶל רֹאשָׁם; וּתְנֵם לְבִזָּה בְּאֶרֶץ שִׁבְיָה. לזוְאַל תְּכַס עַל עֲוֹנָם וְחַטָּאתָם מִלְּפָנֶיךָ אַל תִּמָּחֶה: כִּי הִכְעִיסוּ לְנֶגֶד הַבּוֹנִים. לחוַנִּבְנֶה אֶת הַחוֹמָה וַתִּקָּשֵׁר כָּל הַחוֹמָה עַד חֶצְיָהּ; וַיְהִי לֵב לָעָם לַעֲשׂוֹת.
