1And these are the inheritances which B’nei Yisra’el took in the land of Kena’an, which El Azar the kohen, and Yehoshua Bin Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of B’nei Yisra’el, distributed unto them, 2by the lot of their inheritance, as יהוה commanded by the hand of Moshe, for the nine tribes, and for half of a tribe. 3For Moshe had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half of a tribe beyond the Yarden; but unto the Levi’im he gave no inheritance among them. 4For the children of Yosef were two tribes, Menasheh and Efrayim; and they gave no portion unto the Levi’im in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the open land about them for their cattle and for their substance. 5As יהוה commanded Moshe, so B’nei Yisra’el did, and they divided the land.
6Then the children of Yehudah drew nigh unto Yehoshua in Gilgal; and Kalev Ben Yefuneh the Kenizi said unto him, “You know the thing that יהוה spoke unto Moshe the man of Elohim concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh Barne’ah. 7Forty years old was I when Moshe the servant of יהוה sent me from Kadesh Barne’ah to spy out the land; and I brought him back word as it was in my heart. 8Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed יהוה my Elohim. 9And Moshe swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land whereon your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have wholly followed יהוה my Elohim.’ 10And now, behold, יהוה has kept me alive, as He spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that יהוה spoke this word unto Moshe, while Yisra’el walked in the wilderness; and now, lo, I am this day eighty-five years old. 11As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moshe sent me; as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, and to go out and to come in. 12Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof יהוה spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified; it may be that יהוה will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as יהוה spoke.” 13And Yehoshua blessed him; and he gave Khevron unto Kalev Ben Yefunah for an inheritance. 14Therefore Khevron became the inheritance of Kalev Ben Yefuneh the Kenizi, unto this day; because that he wholly followed יהוה , Elohei Yisra’el. 15Now the name of Khevron beforetime was Kiriyat Arba, which Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.
אוְאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר נָחֲלוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן אֲשֶׁר נִחֲלוּ אוֹתָם אֶלְעָזָר הַכֹּהֵן וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן וְרָאשֵׁי אֲבוֹת הַמַּטּוֹת לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. בבְּגוֹרַל נַחֲלָתָם כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יהוה בְּיַד מֹשֶׁה לְתִשְׁעַת הַמַּטּוֹת וַחֲצִי הַמַּטֶּה. גכִּי נָתַן מֹשֶׁה נַחֲלַת שְׁנֵי הַמַּטּוֹת וַחֲצִי הַמַּטֶּה מֵעֵבֶר לַיַּרְדֵּן; וְלַלְוִיִּם לֹא נָתַן נַחֲלָה בְּתוֹכָם. דכִּי הָיוּ בְנֵי יוֹסֵף שְׁנֵי מַטּוֹת מְנַשֶּׁה וְאֶפְרָיִם; וְלֹא נָתְנוּ חֵלֶק לַלְוִיִּם בָּאָרֶץ כִּי אִם עָרִים לָשֶׁבֶת וּמִגְרְשֵׁיהֶם לְמִקְנֵיהֶם וּלְקִנְיָנָם. הכַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יהוה אֶת מֹשֶׁה כֵּן עָשׂוּ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיַּחְלְקוּ אֶת הָאָרֶץ.
ווַיִּגְּשׁוּ בְנֵי יְהוּדָה אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בַּגִּלְגָּל וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו כָּלֵב בֶּן יְפֻנֶּה הַקְּנִזִּי: אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ אֶת הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה אֶל מֹשֶׁה אִישׁ הָאֱלֹהִים עַל אֹדוֹתַי וְעַל אֹדוֹתֶיךָ בְּקָדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַ. זבֶּן אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה אָנֹכִי בִּשְׁלֹחַ מֹשֶׁה עֶבֶד יהוה אֹתִי מִקָּדֵשׁ בַּרְנֵעַ לְרַגֵּל אֶת הָאָרֶץ; וָאָשֵׁב אֹתוֹ דָּבָר כַּאֲשֶׁר עִם לְבָבִי. חוְאַחַי אֲשֶׁר עָלוּ עִמִּי הִמְסִיו אֶת לֵב הָעָם; וְאָנֹכִי מִלֵּאתִי אַחֲרֵי יהוה אֱלֹהָי. טוַיִּשָּׁבַע מֹשֶׁה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לֵאמֹר אִם לֹא הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר דָּרְכָה רַגְלְךָ בָּהּ לְךָ תִהְיֶה לְנַחֲלָה וּלְבָנֶיךָ עַד עוֹלָם: כִּי מִלֵּאתָ אַחֲרֵי יהוה אֱלֹהָי. יוְעַתָּה הִנֵּה הֶחֱיָה יהוה אוֹתִי כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֵּר זֶה אַרְבָּעִים וְחָמֵשׁ שָׁנָה מֵאָז דִּבֶּר יהוה אֶת הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה אֶל מֹשֶׁה אֲשֶׁר הָלַךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּמִּדְבָּר; וְעַתָּה הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי הַיּוֹם בֶּן חָמֵשׁ וּשְׁמֹנִים שָׁנָה. יאעוֹדֶנִּי הַיּוֹם חָזָק כַּאֲשֶׁר בְּיוֹם שְׁלֹחַ אוֹתִי מֹשֶׁה כְּכֹחִי אָז וּכְכֹחִי עָתָּה: לַמִּלְחָמָה וְלָצֵאת וְלָבוֹא. יבוְעַתָּה תְּנָה לִּי אֶת הָהָר הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא: כִּי אַתָּה שָׁמַעְתָּ בַיּוֹם הַהוּא כִּי עֲנָקִים שָׁם וְעָרִים גְּדֹלוֹת בְּצֻרוֹת אוּלַי יהוה אוֹתִי וְהוֹרַשְׁתִּים כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה . יגוַיְבָרְכֵהוּ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ; וַיִּתֵּן אֶת חֶבְרוֹן לְכָלֵב בֶּן יְפֻנֶּה לְנַחֲלָה. ידעַל כֵּן הָיְתָה חֶבְרוֹן לְכָלֵב בֶּן יְפֻנֶּה הַקְּנִזִּי לְנַחֲלָה עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה יַעַן אֲשֶׁר מִלֵּא אַחֲרֵי יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. טווְשֵׁם חֶבְרוֹן לְפָנִים קִרְיַת אַרְבַּע הָאָדָם הַגָּדוֹל בָּעֲנָקִים הוּא; וְהָאָרֶץ שָׁקְטָה מִמִּלְחָמָה.
