1And it came to pass, when all the nation were clean passed over the Yarden, that יהוה spoke unto Yehoshua, saying, 2“Take yourself twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man, 3and command them, saying, ‘Take out of the midst of the Yarden, out of the place where the feet of the Kohanim stood, twelve stones made ready, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place, where you shall lodge this night’.” 4Then Yehoshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of B’nei Yisra’el, out of every tribe a man; 5and Yehoshua said unto them, “Pass on before the Aron of יהוה your Elohim into the midst of the Yarden, and take up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of B’nei Yisra’el, 6that this may be a sign among you: that when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do you mean by these stones?’ 7then you shall say unto them, ‘Because the waters of the Yarden were cut off before the Aron HaBrit יהוה ; when it passed over the Yarden, the waters of the Yarden were cut off;’ and these stones shall be for a memorial unto B’nei Yisra’el forever.” 8And B’nei Yisra’el did so as Yehoshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Yarden, as יהוה spoke unto Yehoshua, according to the number of the tribes of B’nei Yisra’el; and they carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. 9Yehoshua also set up twelve stones in the midst of the Yarden, in the place where the feet of the Kohanim that bore the Aron HaBrit stood; and they are there unto this day. 10And the Kohanim that bore the ark stood in the midst of the Yarden, until every thing was finished that יהוה commanded Yehoshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moshe commanded Yehoshua; and the people hastened and passed over. 11And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the Aron of יהוה passed on, and the Kohanim, before the people. 12And the B’nei Re’uven, and the B’nei Gad, and half the tribe of Menasheh, passed on armed before B’nei Yisra’el, as Moshe spoke unto them; 13about forty thousand ready, armed for war, passed on in the presence of יהוה unto battle to the plains of Yerekho. 14On that day יהוה magnified Yehoshua in the sight of all Yisra’el; and they feared him, as they feared Moshe, all the days of his life.
15And יהוה spoke unto Yehoshua, saying, 16“Command the Kohanim that bear the Aron HaEdut, that they come up out of the Yarden.” 17Yehoshua therefore commanded the Kohanim, saying, “Come up out of the Yarden.” 18And it came to pass, as the Kohanim that bore the Aron HaBrit יהוה came up out of the midst of the Yarden, as soon as the soles of the feet of the Kohanim were drawn up unto the dry ground, that the waters of the Yarden returned unto their place, and went over all its banks, as before. 19And the people came up out of the Yarden on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Yerekho. 20And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Yarden, did Yehoshua set up in Gilgal. 21And he spoke unto B’nei Yisra’el, saying, “When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22then you shall let your children know, saying ‘Yisra’el came over this Yarden on dry land. 23For יהוה your Elohim dried up the waters of the Yarden from before you, until you were passed over, as יהוה your Elohim did to Yam Suf, which He dried up from before us, until we were passed over, 24that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of יהוה , that it is mighty; that you may fear יהוה your Elohim forever’.”
אוַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר תַּמּוּ כָל הַגּוֹי לַעֲבוֹר אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּן; וַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לֵאמֹר, בקְחוּ לָכֶם מִן הָעָם שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר אֲנָשִׁים אִישׁ אֶחָד אִישׁ אֶחָד מִשָּׁבֶט. גוְצַוּוּ אוֹתָם לֵאמֹר שְׂאוּ לָכֶם מִזֶּה מִתּוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן מִמַּצַּב רַגְלֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים הָכִין שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה אֲבָנִים; וְהַעֲבַרְתֶּם אוֹתָם עִמָּכֶם וְהִנַּחְתֶּם אוֹתָם בַּמָּלוֹן אֲשֶׁר תָּלִינוּ בוֹ הַלָּיְלָה. דוַיִּקְרָא יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל שְׁנֵים הֶעָשָׂר אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר הֵכִין מִבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אִישׁ אֶחָד אִישׁ אֶחָד מִשָּׁבֶט. הוַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם יְהוֹשֻׁעַ עִבְרוּ לִפְנֵי אֲרוֹן יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֶל תּוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן; וְהָרִימוּ לָכֶם אִישׁ אֶבֶן אַחַת עַל שִׁכְמוֹ לְמִסְפַּר שִׁבְטֵי בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. ולְמַעַן תִּהְיֶה זֹאת אוֹת בְּקִרְבְּכֶם: כִּי יִשְׁאָלוּן בְּנֵיכֶם מָחָר לֵאמֹר מָה הָאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה לָכֶם. זוַאֲמַרְתֶּם לָהֶם אֲשֶׁר נִכְרְתוּ מֵימֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן מִפְּנֵי אֲרוֹן בְּרִית יהוה בְּעָבְרוֹ בַּיַּרְדֵּן נִכְרְתוּ מֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן; וְהָיוּ הָאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה לְזִכָּרוֹן לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל עַד עוֹלָם. חוַיַּעֲשׂוּ כֵן בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וַיִּשְׂאוּ שְׁתֵּי עֶשְׂרֵה אֲבָנִים מִתּוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יהוה אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לְמִסְפַּר שִׁבְטֵי בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיַּעֲבִרוּם עִמָּם אֶל הַמָּלוֹן וַיַּנִּחוּם שָׁם. טוּשְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה אֲבָנִים הֵקִים יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בְּתוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן תַּחַת מַצַּב רַגְלֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים נֹשְׂאֵי אֲרוֹן הַבְּרִית; וַיִּהְיוּ שָׁם עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. יוְהַכֹּהֲנִים נֹשְׂאֵי הָאָרוֹן עֹמְדִים בְּתוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן עַד תֹּם כָּל הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יהוה אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לְדַבֵּר אֶל הָעָם כְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה מֹשֶׁה אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ; וַיְמַהֲרוּ הָעָם וַיַּעֲבֹרוּ. יאוַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר תַּם כָּל הָעָם לַעֲבוֹר; וַיַּעֲבֹר אֲרוֹן יהוה וְהַכֹּהֲנִים לִפְנֵי הָעָם. יבוַיַּעַבְרוּ בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵן וּבְנֵי גָד וַחֲצִי שֵׁבֶט הַמְנַשֶּׁה חֲמֻשִׁים לִפְנֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֲלֵיהֶם מֹשֶׁה. יגכְּאַרְבָּעִים אֶלֶף חֲלוּצֵי הַצָּבָא עָבְרוּ לִפְנֵי יהוה לַמִּלְחָמָה אֶל עַרְבוֹת יְרִיחוֹ. ידבַּיּוֹם הַהוּא גִּדַּל יהוה אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בְּעֵינֵי כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל; וַיִּרְאוּ אֹתוֹ כַּאֲשֶׁר יָרְאוּ אֶת מֹשֶׁה כָּל יְמֵי חַיָּיו.
טווַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לֵאמֹר, טזצַוֵּה אֶת הַכֹּהֲנִים נֹשְׂאֵי אֲרוֹן הָעֵדוּת; וְיַעֲלוּ מִן הַיַּרְדֵּן. יזוַיְצַו יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶת הַכֹּהֲנִים לֵאמֹר: עֲלוּ מִן הַיַּרְדֵּן. יחוַיְהִי בעלות (כַּעֲלוֹת) הַכֹּהֲנִים נֹשְׂאֵי אֲרוֹן בְּרִית יהוה מִתּוֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּן נִתְּקוּ כַּפּוֹת רַגְלֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים אֶל הֶחָרָבָה; וַיָּשֻׁבוּ מֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן לִמְקוֹמָם וַיֵּלְכוּ כִתְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁוֹם עַל כָּל גְּדוֹתָיו. יטוְהָעָם עָלוּ מִן הַיַּרְדֵּן בֶּעָשׂוֹר לַחֹדֶשׁ הָרִאשׁוֹן; וַיַּחֲנוּ בַּגִּלְגָּל בִּקְצֵה מִזְרַח יְרִיחוֹ. כוְאֵת שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה הָאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר לָקְחוּ מִן הַיַּרְדֵּן הֵקִים יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בַּגִּלְגָּל. כאוַיֹּאמֶר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר: אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁאָלוּן בְּנֵיכֶם מָחָר אֶת אֲבוֹתָם לֵאמֹר מָה הָאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה. כבוְהוֹדַעְתֶּם אֶת בְּנֵיכֶם לֵאמֹר: בַּיַּבָּשָׁה עָבַר יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּן הַזֶּה. כגאֲשֶׁר הוֹבִישׁ יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם אֶת מֵי הַיַּרְדֵּן מִפְּנֵיכֶם עַד עָבְרְכֶם: כַּאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לְיַם סוּף אֲשֶׁר הוֹבִישׁ מִפָּנֵינוּ עַד עָבְרֵנוּ. כדלְמַעַן דַּעַת כָּל עַמֵּי הָאָרֶץ אֶת יַד יהוה כִּי חֲזָקָה הִיא לְמַעַן יְרָאתֶם אֶת יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם כָּל הַיָּמִים.
