1Now Yerekho was straitly shut up because of B’nei Yisra’el: none went out, and none came in. 2And יהוה said unto Yehoshua, “See, I have given into your hand Yerekho, and the king thereof, even the mighty men of valor. 3And you shall encompass the city, all the men of war going about the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. 4And seven Kohanim shall bear seven shofars of the yovel before the Aron; and the seventh day you shall encompass the city seven times, and the Kohanim shall blow with the shofars. 5And it shall be, that when they make a long blast with the horn of the yovel, and when you hear the sound of the shofar, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.” 6And Yehoshua Bin Nun called the Kohanim, and said unto them, “Take up the Aron HaBrit, and let seven Kohanim bear seven shofars of the yovel before the Aron of יהוה .” And7 he said unto the people, “Pass on, and encompass the city, and let the armed body pass on before the Aron of יהוה .” And8 it was so, that when Yehoshua had spoken unto the people, the seven Kohanim bearing the seven shofars of the yovel before יהוה passed on, and blew with the horns; and the Aron HaBrit יהוה followed them. 9And the armed men went before the Kohanim that blew the shofars, and the rearward went after the Aron, [the Kohanim] blowing with the shofars continually. 10And Yehoshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall you shout.” 11So he caused the Aron of יהוה to encompass the city, going about it once; and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
12And Yehoshua rose early in the morning, and the Kohanim took up the Aron of יהוה . And13 the seven Kohanim bearing the seven shofars of the yovel before the Aron of יהוה went on continually, and blew with the shofars; and the armed men went before them; and the rearward came after the Aron of יהוה , [the Kohanim] blowing with the shofars continually. 14And the second day they encompassed the city once, and returned into the camp; so they did six days. 15And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and encompassed the city after the same manner seven times; only on that day they encompassed the city seven times. 16And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the Kohanim blew with the shofars, that Yehoshua said unto the people, “Shout! for יהוה has given you the city! 17And the city shall be devoted, even it and all that is therein, to יהוה ; only Rakhav the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18And you, in any wise keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest you make yourselves accursed by taking of the devoted thing, so should you make the camp of Yisra’el accursed, and trouble it. 19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto יהוה ; they shall come into the treasury of יהוה .” So20 the people shouted, and [the Kohanim] blew with the shofars. And it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the shofar, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. 21And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword. 22And Yehoshua said unto the two men that had spied out the land, “Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out from there the woman, and all that she has, as you swore unto her.” 23And the young men the spies went in, and brought out Rakhav, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had, all her kindred also they brought out; and they set them without the camp of Yisra’el. 24And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein; only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of יהוה . But25 Rakhav the harlot, and her father’s household, and all that she had, did Yehoshua save alive; and she dwelt in the midst of Yisra’el, unto this day; because she hid the messengers, whom Yehoshua sent to spy out Yerekho.
26And Yehoshua charged the people with an oath at that time, saying, “Cursed is the man before יהוה , that rises up and builds this city, even Yerekho; with the loss of his first-born shall he lay the foundation thereof, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.” 27So יהוה was with Yehoshua; and his fame was in all the land.
אוִירִיחוֹ סֹגֶרֶת וּמְסֻגֶּרֶת מִפְּנֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: אֵין יוֹצֵא וְאֵין בָּא. בוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁעַ רְאֵה נָתַתִּי בְיָדְךָ אֶת יְרִיחוֹ וְאֶת מַלְכָּהּ גִּבּוֹרֵי הֶחָיִל. גוְסַבֹּתֶם אֶת הָעִיר כֹּל אַנְשֵׁי הַמִּלְחָמָה הַקֵּיף אֶת הָעִיר פַּעַם אֶחָת; כֹּה תַעֲשֶׂה שֵׁשֶׁת יָמִים. דוְשִׁבְעָה כֹהֲנִים יִשְׂאוּ שִׁבְעָה שׁוֹפְרוֹת הַיּוֹבְלִים לִפְנֵי הָאָרוֹן וּבַיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי תָּסֹבּוּ אֶת הָעִיר שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים; וְהַכֹּהֲנִים יִתְקְעוּ בַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת. הוְהָיָה בִּמְשֹׁךְ בְּקֶרֶן הַיּוֹבֵל בשמעכם (כְּשָׁמְעֲכֶם) אֶת קוֹל הַשּׁוֹפָר יָרִיעוּ כָל הָעָם תְּרוּעָה גְדוֹלָה; וְנָפְלָה חוֹמַת הָעִיר תַּחְתֶּיהָ וְעָלוּ הָעָם אִישׁ נֶגְדּוֹ. ווַיִּקְרָא יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן אֶל הַכֹּהֲנִים וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם שְׂאוּ אֶת אֲרוֹן הַבְּרִית; וְשִׁבְעָה כֹהֲנִים יִשְׂאוּ שִׁבְעָה שׁוֹפְרוֹת יוֹבְלִים לִפְנֵי אֲרוֹן יהוה . זויאמרו (וַיֹּאמֶר) אֶל הָעָם עִבְרוּ וְסֹבּוּ אֶת הָעִיר; וְהֶחָלוּץ יַעֲבֹר לִפְנֵי אֲרוֹן יהוה . חוַיְהִי כֶּאֱמֹר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל הָעָם וְשִׁבְעָה הַכֹּהֲנִים נֹשְׂאִים שִׁבְעָה שׁוֹפְרוֹת הַיּוֹבְלִים לִפְנֵי יהוה עָבְרוּ וְתָקְעוּ בַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת; וַאֲרוֹן בְּרִית יהוה הֹלֵךְ אַחֲרֵיהֶם. טוְהֶחָלוּץ הֹלֵךְ לִפְנֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים תקעו (תֹּקְעֵי) הַשּׁוֹפָרוֹת; וְהַמְאַסֵּף הֹלֵךְ אַחֲרֵי הָאָרוֹן הָלוֹךְ וְתָקוֹעַ בַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת. יוְאֶת הָעָם צִוָּה יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לֵאמֹר לֹא תָרִיעוּ וְלֹא תַשְׁמִיעוּ אֶת קוֹלְכֶם וְלֹא יֵצֵא מִפִּיכֶם דָּבָר: עַד יוֹם אָמְרִי אֲלֵיכֶם הָרִיעוּ וַהֲרִיעֹתֶם. יאוַיַּסֵּב אֲרוֹן יהוה אֶת הָעִיר הַקֵּף פַּעַם אֶחָת; וַיָּבֹאוּ הַמַּחֲנֶה וַיָּלִינוּ בַּמַּחֲנֶה.
יבוַיַּשְׁכֵּם יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בַּבֹּקֶר; וַיִּשְׂאוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים אֶת אֲרוֹן יהוה . יגוְשִׁבְעָה הַכֹּהֲנִים נֹשְׂאִים שִׁבְעָה שׁוֹפְרוֹת הַיֹּבְלִים לִפְנֵי אֲרוֹן יהוה הֹלְכִים הָלוֹךְ וְתָקְעוּ בַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת; וְהֶחָלוּץ הֹלֵךְ לִפְנֵיהֶם וְהַמְאַסֵּף הֹלֵךְ אַחֲרֵי אֲרוֹן יהוה הולך (הָלוֹךְ) וְתָקוֹעַ בַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת. ידוַיָּסֹבּוּ אֶת הָעִיר בַּיּוֹם הַשֵּׁנִי פַּעַם אַחַת וַיָּשֻׁבוּ הַמַּחֲנֶה; כֹּה עָשׂוּ שֵׁשֶׁת יָמִים. טווַיְהִי בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי וַיַּשְׁכִּמוּ כַּעֲלוֹת הַשַּׁחַר וַיָּסֹבּוּ אֶת הָעִיר כַּמִּשְׁפָּט הַזֶּה שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים: רַק בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא סָבְבוּ אֶת הָעִיר שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים. טזוַיְהִי בַּפַּעַם הַשְּׁבִיעִית תָּקְעוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים בַּשּׁוֹפָרוֹת; וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אֶל הָעָם הָרִיעוּ כִּי נָתַן יהוה לָכֶם אֶת הָעִיר. יזוְהָיְתָה הָעִיר חֵרֶם הִיא וְכָל אֲשֶׁר בָּהּ לַיהוה : רַק רָחָב הַזּוֹנָה תִּחְיֶה הִיא וְכָל אֲשֶׁר אִתָּהּ בַּבַּיִת כִּי הֶחְבְּאַתָה אֶת הַמַּלְאָכִים אֲשֶׁר שָׁלָחְנוּ. יחוְרַק אַתֶּם שִׁמְרוּ מִן הַחֵרֶם פֶּן תַּחֲרִימוּ וּלְקַחְתֶּם מִן הַחֵרֶם; וְשַׂמְתֶּם אֶת מַחֲנֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל לְחֵרֶם וַעֲכַרְתֶּם אוֹתוֹ. יטוְכֹל כֶּסֶף וְזָהָב וּכְלֵי נְחֹשֶׁת וּבַרְזֶל קֹדֶשׁ הוּא לַיהוה : אוֹצַר יהוה יָבוֹא. כוַיָּרַע הָעָם וַיִּתְקְעוּ בַּשֹּׁפָרוֹת; וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ הָעָם אֶת קוֹל הַשּׁוֹפָר וַיָּרִיעוּ הָעָם תְּרוּעָה גְדוֹלָה וַתִּפֹּל הַחוֹמָה תַּחְתֶּיהָ וַיַּעַל הָעָם הָעִירָה אִישׁ נֶגְדּוֹ וַיִּלְכְּדוּ אֶת הָעִיר. כאוַיַּחֲרִימוּ אֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר בָּעִיר מֵאִישׁ וְעַד אִשָּׁה מִנַּעַר וְעַד זָקֵן; וְעַד שׁוֹר וָשֶׂה וַחֲמוֹר לְפִי חָרֶב. כבוְלִשְׁנַיִם הָאֲנָשִׁים הַמְרַגְּלִים אֶת הָאָרֶץ אָמַר יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בֹּאוּ בֵּית הָאִשָּׁה הַזּוֹנָה; וְהוֹצִיאוּ מִשָּׁם אֶת הָאִשָּׁה וְאֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לָהּ כַּאֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתֶּם לָהּ. כגוַיָּבֹאוּ הַנְּעָרִים הַמְרַגְּלִים וַיֹּצִיאוּ אֶת רָחָב וְאֶת אָבִיהָ וְאֶת אִמָּהּ וְאֶת אַחֶיהָ וְאֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לָהּ וְאֵת כָּל מִשְׁפְּחוֹתֶיהָ הוֹצִיאוּ;וַיַּנִּיחוּם מִחוּץ, לְמַחֲנֵה יִשְׂרָאֵל. כד וְהָעִיר שָׂרְפוּ בָאֵשׁ וְכָל אֲשֶׁר בָּהּ: רַק הַכֶּסֶף וְהַזָּהָב וּכְלֵי הַנְּחֹשֶׁת וְהַבַּרְזֶל נָתְנוּ, אוֹצַר בֵּית-יְהוָה. כהוְאֶת רָחָב הַזּוֹנָה וְאֶת בֵּית אָבִיהָ וְאֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לָהּ הֶחֱיָה יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וַתֵּשֶׁב בְּקֶרֶב יִשְׂרָאֵל, עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה. כִּי הֶחְבִּיאָה אֶת הַמַּלְאָכִים אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח יְהוֹשֻׁעַ לְרַגֵּל אֶת יְרִיחוֹ.
כווַיַּשְׁבַּע יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בָּעֵת הַהִיא לֵאמֹר: אָרוּר הָאִישׁ לִפְנֵי יהוה אֲשֶׁר יָקוּם וּבָנָה אֶת הָעִיר הַזֹּאת אֶת יְרִיחוֹ בִּבְכֹרוֹ יְיַסְּדֶנָּה וּבִצְעִירוֹ יַצִּיב דְּלָתֶיהָ. כזוַיְהִי יהוה אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ; וַיְהִי שָׁמְעוֹ בְּכָל הָאָרֶץ.
