
Shoftim (1) 1“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwelt in the land of Tzal-Mavet, upon them has the light shined. 2You have multiplied the nation, You have increased their joy; they joy before You according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 3For the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, You have broken as in the day of Midyan. 4For every boot stamped with fierceness, and every cloak rolled in blood, shall even be for burning, for fuel of fire. Yitro (2) 5For a boy is born unto us, a Son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder; and his name is called Peleh Yo’etz El Gibor Avi Ad Sar Shalom [Wonderful Counselor (of the) Mighty G-d (the) Eternal Father Prince of Shalom]; 6that the government may be increased, and of Shalom there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon Malkhuto, to establish it, and to uphold it through justice and through Tzedaka, from henceforth, even forever. 7“Adonai sent [the] Davar unto Ya’akov, and it has lighted upon Yisra’el. 8And all the people shall know, even Efrayim and the inhabitants of Shomron, that say in pride and in arrogance of heart, 9‘The bricks are fallen, but we will build with hewn stones; the sycamores are cut down, but cedars will we put in their place’. 10Therefore יהוה does set upon high the adversaries of Retzin against him, and spur his enemies; 11Aram on the east, and the P’lishtim on the west; and they devour Yisra’el with open mouth. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still. 12Yet the people turn not unto Him that smites them, neither do they seek יהוה Tzeva’ot. 13Therefore יהוה does cut off from Yisra’el head and tail, palm-branch and rush, in one day. 14The elder and the man of rank, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail. 15For they that lead this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. 16Therefore Adonai shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall He have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is ungodly and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaks wantonness. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still. 17For wickedness burns as the fire; it devours the briers and thorns; yes, it kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in thick clouds of smoke. 18Through the wrath of יהוה Tzeva’ot is the land burned up; the people also are as the fuel of fire; no man spares his brother. 19And one snatches on the right hand, and is hungry; and he eats on the left hand, and is not satisfied; they eat, every man, the flesh of his own arm: 20Menasheh, Efrayim; and Efrayim, Menasheh; and they together are against Yehudah. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.”
אהָעָם הַהֹלְכִים בַּחֹשֶׁךְ רָאוּ אוֹר גָּדוֹל: יֹשְׁבֵי בְּאֶרֶץ צַלְמָוֶת אוֹר נָגַהּ עֲלֵיהֶם. בהִרְבִּיתָ הַגּוֹי לא (לוֹ) הִגְדַּלְתָּ הַשִּׂמְחָה; שָׂמְחוּ לְפָנֶיךָ כְּשִׂמְחַת בַּקָּצִיר כַּאֲשֶׁר יָגִילוּ בְּחַלְּקָם שָׁלָל. גכִּי אֶת עֹל סֻבֳּלוֹ וְאֵת מַטֵּה שִׁכְמוֹ שֵׁבֶט הַנֹּגֵשׂ בּוֹ הַחִתֹּתָ כְּיוֹם מִדְיָן. דכִּי כָל סְאוֹן סֹאֵן בְּרַעַשׁ וְשִׂמְלָה מְגוֹלָלָה בְדָמִים; וְהָיְתָה לִשְׂרֵפָה מַאֲכֹלֶת אֵשׁ. הכִּי יֶלֶד יֻלַּד לָנוּ בֵּן נִתַּן לָנוּ וַתְּהִי הַמִּשְׂרָה עַל שִׁכְמוֹ; וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ פֶּלֶא יוֹעֵץ אֵל גִּבּוֹר אֲבִי עַד שַׂר שָׁלוֹם. ולם רבה (לְמַרְבֵּה) הַמִּשְׂרָה וּלְשָׁלוֹם אֵין קֵץ עַל כִּסֵּא דָוִד וְעַל מַמְלַכְתּוֹ לְהָכִין אֹתָהּ וּלְסַעֲדָהּ בְּמִשְׁפָּט וּבִצְדָקָה; מֵעַתָּה וְעַד עוֹלָם קִנְאַת יהוה צְבָאוֹת תַּעֲשֶׂה זֹּאת.
זדָּבָר שָׁלַח אֲדֹנָי בְּיַעֲקֹב; וְנָפַל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. חוְיָדְעוּ הָעָם כֻּלּוֹ אֶפְרַיִם וְיוֹשֵׁב שֹׁמְרוֹן בְּגַאֲוָה וּבְגֹדֶל לֵבָב לֵאמֹר, טלְבֵנִים נָפָלוּ וְגָזִית נִבְנֶה; שִׁקְמִים גֻּדָּעוּ וַאֲרָזִים נַחֲלִיף. יוַיְשַׂגֵּב יהוה אֶת צָרֵי רְצִין עָלָיו; וְאֶת אֹיְבָיו יְסַכְסֵךְ. יאאֲרָם מִקֶּדֶם וּפְלִשְׁתִּים מֵאָחוֹר וַיֹּאכְלוּ אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּכָל פֶּה; בְּכָל זֹאת לֹא שָׁב אַפּוֹ וְעוֹד יָדוֹ נְטוּיָה. יבוְהָעָם לֹא שָׁב עַד הַמַּכֵּהוּ; וְאֶת יהוה צְבָאוֹת לֹא דָרָשׁוּ. יגוַיַּכְרֵת יהוה מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל רֹאשׁ וְזָנָב כִּפָּה וְאַגְמוֹן יוֹם אֶחָד. ידזָקֵן וּנְשׂוּא פָנִים הוּא הָרֹאשׁ; וְנָבִיא מוֹרֶה שֶּׁקֶר הוּא הַזָּנָב. טווַיִּהְיוּ מְאַשְּׁרֵי הָעָם הַזֶּה מַתְעִים; וּמְאֻשָּׁרָיו מְבֻלָּעִים. טזעַל כֵּן עַל בַּחוּרָיו לֹא יִשְׂמַח אֲדֹנָי וְאֶת יְתֹמָיו וְאֶת אַלְמְנוֹתָיו לֹא יְרַחֵם כִּי כֻלּוֹ חָנֵף וּמֵרַע וְכָל פֶּה דֹּבֵר נְבָלָה; בְּכָל זֹאת לֹא שָׁב אַפּוֹ וְעוֹד יָדוֹ נְטוּיָה. יזכִּי בָעֲרָה כָאֵשׁ רִשְׁעָה שָׁמִיר וָשַׁיִת תֹּאכֵל; וַתִּצַּת בְּסִבְכֵי הַיַּעַר וַיִּתְאַבְּכוּ גֵּאוּת עָשָׁן. יחבְּעֶבְרַת יהוה צְבָאוֹת נֶעְתַּם אָרֶץ; וַיְהִי הָעָם כְּמַאֲכֹלֶת אֵשׁ אִישׁ אֶל אָחִיו לֹא יַחְמֹלוּ. יטוַיִּגְזֹר עַל יָמִין וְרָעֵב וַיֹּאכַל עַל שְׂמֹאול וְלֹא שָׂבֵעוּ: אִישׁ בְּשַׂר זְרֹעוֹ יֹאכֵלוּ. כמְנַשֶּׁה אֶת אֶפְרַיִם וְאֶפְרַיִם אֶת מְנַשֶּׁה יַחְדָּו הֵמָּה עַל יְהוּדָה; בְּכָל זֹאת לֹא שָׁב אַפּוֹ וְעוֹד יָדוֹ נְטוּיָה.
