Yirme-Yahu 2 – ירמיהו ב

1And the D’var  יהוה came to me, saying, 2“Go, and cry in the ears of Yerushalayim, saying thus says  יהוה , ‘I remember for you the affection of your youth, the love of your espousals; how you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown. 3Yisra’el is the hallowed portion of  יהוה , His first-fruits of the increase; all that devour him shall be held guilty, evil shall come upon them’, says  יהוה .” end Matot

Masei 4“Hear the D’var  יהוה , O Beit Ya’akov, and all the families of Beit Yisra’el. 5Thus says  יהוה , ‘What unrighteousness have your fathers found in Me, that they are gone far from Me, and have walked after things of nought, and are become nought? 6Neither did they say, ‘Where is  יהוה  that brought us up out of the land of Mitzrayim; that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of Tzal-Mavet, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?’ 7And I brought you into a land of fruitful fields, to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof; but when you entered, you defiled My land, and made My heritage an abomination. 8The priests did not say, ‘Where is  יהוה ?’ And they that handle the Torah knew Me not, and the rulers transgressed against Me; the prophets also prophesied by Ba’al, and walked after things that do not profit. 9Therefore I will yet plead with you’, says  יהוה , ‘and with your children’s children will I plead. 10For, pass over to the isles of the Kiti’im, and see, and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there has been such a thing. 11Has a nation changed its gods, which yet are not gods? But My people has changed its glory for that which does not profit. 12Be astonished, O you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be exceedingly amazed’, says  יהוה . ‘For13 My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of Mayim Khayim, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. 14Is Yisra’el a servant? Is he a home-born slave? Why is he become a prey? 15The young lions have roared upon him, and let their voice resound; and they have made his land desolate, his cities are laid waste, without inhabitant. 16The children also of Nof and Takhpankhes feed upon the crown of your head. 17Is it not this that does cause it unto you, that you have forsaken  יהוה  your Elohim, when He led you by the way? 18And now what have you to do in the way to Mitzrayim, to drink the waters of Shikhor? Or what have you to do in the way to Ashur, to drink the waters of the River? 19Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know, therefore, and see that it is an evil and a bitter thing, that you have forsaken  יהוה  your Elohim, neither is My fear in you’, says Adonai  יהוה  Tzeva’ot. 20‘For of old time I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands, and you said, ‘I will not transgress’; upon every high hill and under every evergreen tree you did recline, playing the harlot. 21Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed; how then are you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto Me? 22For though you wash yourself with nitre, and take much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before Me’, says Adonai  יהוה . ‘How23 can you say, ‘I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Ba’alim’? See your way in the valley, know what you have done; you are a swift young camel traversing her ways; 24a wild donkey used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind in her desire; her lust, who can hinder it? All they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her khodesh they shall find her. 25Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst; but you said, ‘There is no hope; no, for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.’ 26As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is Beit Yisra’el ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets; 27who say to a stock, ‘You are my father’, and to a stone, ‘You have brought us forth’, for they have turned their back unto Me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise, and save us’. 28But where are your gods that you have made you? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble; for according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Yehudah.  29Why will you contend with Me? You all have transgressed against Me’, says  יהוה . ‘In30 vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction; your sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion. 31O generation, see the D’var  יהוה .  Have I been a wilderness unto Yisra’el?  Or a land of thick darkness? Why do My people say, ‘We roam at large; we will come no more unto You’? 32Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me for days without number. 33How do you trim your way to seek love! Therefore, even the wicked women have you taught your ways; 34also, in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor; you did not find them breaking in; yet for all these things 35you said, ‘I am innocent; surely His anger is turned away from me’; behold, I will enter into judgment with you, because you say, ‘I have not sinned’. 36How greatly do you cheapen yourself to change your way? You shall be ashamed of Mitzrayim also, as you were ashamed of Ashur. 37From him also shall you go forth, with your hands upon your head; for  יהוה  has rejected them in whom you did trust, and you shall not prosper in them’.”
