1HaDavar, which came unto Yirme-Yahu from יהוה , when Melekh Tzidki-Yahu sent unto him, Pash’khur Ben Malki-Yah, and Tzefan-Yah Ben Ma’asei-Yah the kohen, saying, 2“Inquire, I pray, of יהוה for us; for Nevukhadretzar king of Bavel makes war against us; perhaps יהוה will deal with us according to all His wondrous works, that he may go up from us.” 3Then said Yirme-Yahu unto them, “Thus shall you say to Tzidki-Yahu, 4‘Thus says יהוה , Elohei Yisra’el, ‘Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith you fight against the king of Bavel, and against the Kasdim, that besiege you without the walls, and I will gather them into the midst of this city. 5And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath. 6And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they shall die of a great pestilence. 7And afterward, says יהוה , I will deliver Tzidki-Yahu Melekh Yehudah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nevukhadretzar king of Bavel, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life; and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have compassion’.’ 8And unto this people you shall say, ‘Thus says יהוה , ‘Behold, I set before you the Derekh HaKhayim and the Derekh HaMavet. 9He that abides in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goes out, and falls away to the Kasdim that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey. 10For I have set My face against this city for evil, and not for good, says יהוה ; it shall be given into the hand of the king of Bavel, and he shall burn it with fire’.’ 11And unto the Beit Melekh Yehudah, Hear the D’var יהוה ; O12 Beit David, thus says יהוה : ‘Execute justice in the morning, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go forth like fire, and burns, that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. 13Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, says יהוה ; you that say, ‘Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter into our habitations?’ 14And I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, says יהוה ; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her’.”
אהַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר הָיָה אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ מֵאֵת יהוה בִּשְׁלֹחַ אֵלָיו הַמֶּלֶךְ צִדְקִיָּהוּ אֶת פַּשְׁחוּר בֶּן מַלְכִּיָּה וְאֶת צְפַנְיָה בֶן מַעֲשֵׂיָה הַכֹּהֵן לֵאמֹר, בדְּרָשׁ נָא בַעֲדֵנוּ אֶת יהוה כִּי נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל נִלְחָם עָלֵינוּ; אוּלַי יַעֲשֶׂה יהוה אוֹתָנוּ כְּכָל נִפְלְאֹתָיו וְיַעֲלֶה מֵעָלֵינוּ. גוַיֹּאמֶר יִרְמְיָהוּ אֲלֵיהֶם: כֹּה תֹאמְרֻן אֶל צִדְקִיָּהוּ. דכֹּה אָמַר יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הִנְנִי מֵסֵב אֶת כְּלֵי הַמִּלְחָמָה אֲשֶׁר בְּיֶדְכֶם אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם נִלְחָמִים בָּם אֶת מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל וְאֶת הַכַּשְׂדִּים הַצָּרִים עֲלֵיכֶם מִחוּץ לַחוֹמָה; וְאָסַפְתִּי אוֹתָם אֶל תּוֹךְ הָעִיר הַזֹּאת. הוְנִלְחַמְתִּי אֲנִי אִתְּכֶם בְּיָד נְטוּיָה וּבִזְרוֹעַ חֲזָקָה וּבְאַף וּבְחֵמָה וּבְקֶצֶף גָּדוֹל. ווְהִכֵּיתִי אֶת יוֹשְׁבֵי הָעִיר הַזֹּאת וְאֶת הָאָדָם וְאֶת הַבְּהֵמָה: בְּדֶבֶר גָּדוֹל יָמֻתוּ. זוְאַחֲרֵי כֵן נְאֻם יהוה אֶתֵּן אֶת צִדְקִיָּהוּ מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה וְאֶת עֲבָדָיו וְאֶת הָעָם וְאֶת הַנִּשְׁאָרִים בָּעִיר הַזֹּאת מִן הַדֶּבֶר מִן הַחֶרֶב וּמִן הָרָעָב בְּיַד נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל וּבְיַד אֹיְבֵיהֶם וּבְיַד מְבַקְשֵׁי נַפְשָׁם; וְהִכָּם לְפִי חֶרֶב לֹא יָחוּס עֲלֵיהֶם וְלֹא יַחְמֹל וְלֹא יְרַחֵם. חוְאֶל הָעָם הַזֶּה תֹּאמַר כֹּה אָמַר יהוה : הִנְנִי נֹתֵן לִפְנֵיכֶם אֶת דֶּרֶךְ הַחַיִּים וְאֶת דֶּרֶךְ הַמָּוֶת. טהַיֹּשֵׁב בָּעִיר הַזֹּאת יָמוּת בַּחֶרֶב וּבָרָעָב וּבַדָּבֶר; וְהַיּוֹצֵא וְנָפַל עַל הַכַּשְׂדִּים הַצָּרִים עֲלֵיכֶם יחיה (וְחָיָה) וְהָיְתָה לּוֹ נַפְשׁוֹ לְשָׁלָל. יכִּי שַׂמְתִּי פָנַי בָּעִיר הַזֹּאת לְרָעָה וְלֹא לְטוֹבָה נְאֻם יהוה ; בְּיַד מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל תִּנָּתֵן וּשְׂרָפָהּ בָּאֵשׁ. יאוּלְבֵית מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה שִׁמְעוּ דְּבַר יהוה . יבבֵּית דָּוִד כֹּה אָמַר יהוה דִּינוּ לַבֹּקֶר מִשְׁפָּט וְהַצִּילוּ גָזוּל מִיַּד עוֹשֵׁק: פֶּן תֵּצֵא כָאֵשׁ חֲמָתִי וּבָעֲרָה וְאֵין מְכַבֶּה מִפְּנֵי רֹעַ מעלליהם (מַעַלְלֵיכֶם). יגהִנְנִי אֵלַיִךְ יֹשֶׁבֶת הָעֵמֶק צוּר הַמִּישֹׁר נְאֻם יהוה ; הָאֹמְרִים מִי יֵחַת עָלֵינוּ וּמִי יָבוֹא בִּמְעוֹנוֹתֵינוּ. ידוּפָקַדְתִּי עֲלֵיכֶם כִּפְרִי מַעַלְלֵיכֶם נְאֻם יהוה ; וְהִצַּתִּי אֵשׁ בְּיַעְרָהּ וְאָכְלָה כָּל סְבִיבֶיהָ.
