1Now these are the words of the letter that Yirme-Yahu HaNavi sent from Yerushalayim unto the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people, whom Nevukhadnetzar had carried away captive from Yerushalayim to Bavel, 2after that Yekhon-Yahu HaMelekh, and the queen-mother, and the officers, and the princes of Yehudah and Yerushalayim, and the craftsmen, and the smiths, were departed from Yerushalayim; 3by the hand of Elasah Ben Shafan, and G’mar-Yah Ben Khilki-Yahu, whom Tzidki-Yahu Melekh Yehudah sent unto Bavel to Nevukhadnetzar king of Bavel, saying, 4“Thus says יהוה Tzeva’ot, Elohei Yisra’el, unto all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Yerushalayim unto Bavel, 5‘Build houses, and dwell in them, and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them; 6take wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and be not diminished. 7And seek the shalom of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray unto יהוה for it; for in the shalom thereof shall you have shalom’. 8For thus says יהוה Tzeva’ot, Elohei Yisra’el, ‘Let not your prophets that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, beguile you, neither hearken to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed. 9For they prophesy falsely unto you in My Name; I have not sent them’, says יהוה . For10 thus says יהוה , ‘After seventy years are accomplished for Bavel, I will remember you, and perform My good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. 11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you’, says יהוה , ‘thoughts of shalom, and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12And you shall call upon Me, and go, and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you. 13And you shall seek Me, and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart. 14And I will be found of you’, says יהוה , ‘and I will turn your captivity, and gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you’, says יהוה ; ‘and I will bring you back unto the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive’. 15For you have said, ‘ יהוה has raised us up prophets in Bavel’. 16For thus says יהוה concerning the king that sits upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity; 17thus says יהוה Tzeva’ot, ‘Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so bad. 18And I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will make them a horror unto all the kingdoms of the earth, a curse, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations where I have driven them; 19because they have not hearkened to My words’, says יהוה , ‘wherewith I sent unto them My servants the Nevi’im, sending them betimes and often; but you would not hear’, says יהוה .’ Hear20, therefore, the D’var יהוה , all you of the captivity, whom I have sent away from Yerushalayim to Bavel. 21Thus says יהוה Tzeva’ot, Elohei Yisra’el, concerning Akhav Ben Kolah-Yah, and concerning Tzidki-Yahu Ben Ma’asei-Yah, who prophesy a lie unto you in My Name, ‘Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nevukhadretzar king of Bavel; and he shall slay them before your eyes; 22and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Yehudah that are in Bavel, saying, ‘ יהוה make you like Tzidki-Yahu and like Akhav, whom the king of Bavel roasted in the fire’; 23because they have wrought vile deeds in Yisra’el, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in My Name falsely, which I commanded them not; but I am He that knows, and am witness’, says יהוה . And24 concerning Shema-Yahu the Nekhelami you shall speak, saying, 25‘Thus speaks יהוה Tzeva’ot, Elohei Yisra’el, saying, ‘Because you have sent letters in your own name unto all the people that are at Yerushalayim, and to Tzefan-Yah Ben Ma’asei-Yah the priest, and to all the priests, saying, 26‘ יהוה has made you priest in the stead of Yeho-Yada HaKohen’, that there should be officers in Beit יהוה for every man that is mad, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in the collar. 27Now therefore, why have you not rebuked Yirme-Yahu of Anatot, who makes himself a Navi to you, 28forasmuch as he has sent unto us in Bavel, saying, ‘The captivity is long; build houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them?'”
29And Tzefan-Yah the priest read this letter in the ears of Yirme-Yahu HaNavi.
30Then came the D’var יהוה unto Yirme-Yahu, saying, 31“Send to all them of the captivity, saying, ‘Thus says יהוה concerning Shema-Yahu the Nekhelami, ‘Because Shema-Yahu has prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he has caused you to trust in a lie; 32therefore thus says יהוה , ‘Behold, I will punish Shema-Yahu the Nekhelami, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he behold the good that I will do unto My people’,’ says יהוה ; ‘because he has spoken perversion against יהוה ‘.”
אוְאֵלֶּה דִּבְרֵי הַסֵּפֶר אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח יִרְמְיָה הַנָּבִיא מִירוּשָׁלִָם אֶל יֶתֶר זִקְנֵי הַגּוֹלָה וְאֶל הַכֹּהֲנִים וְאֶל הַנְּבִיאִים וְאֶל כָּל הָעָם אֲשֶׁר הֶגְלָה נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּר מִירוּשָׁלִַם בָּבֶלָה. באַחֲרֵי צֵאת יְכָנְיָה הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהַגְּבִירָה וְהַסָּרִיסִים שָׂרֵי יְהוּדָה וִירוּשָׁלִַם וְהֶחָרָשׁ וְהַמַּסְגֵּר מִירוּשָׁלִָם. גבְּיַד אֶלְעָשָׂה בֶן שָׁפָן וּגְמַרְיָה בֶּן חִלְקִיָּה: אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח צִדְקִיָּה מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה אֶל נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל בָּבֶלָה לֵאמֹר, דכֹּה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: לְכָל הַגּוֹלָה אֲשֶׁר הִגְלֵיתִי מִירוּשָׁלִַם בָּבֶלָה. הבְּנוּ בָתִּים וְשֵׁבוּ; וְנִטְעוּ גַנּוֹת וְאִכְלוּ אֶת פִּרְיָן. וקְחוּ נָשִׁים וְהוֹלִידוּ בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת וּקְחוּ לִבְנֵיכֶם נָשִׁים וְאֶת בְּנוֹתֵיכֶם תְּנוּ לַאֲנָשִׁים וְתֵלַדְנָה בָּנִים וּבָנוֹת; וּרְבוּ שָׁם וְאַל תִּמְעָטוּ. זוְדִרְשׁוּ אֶת שְׁלוֹם הָעִיר אֲשֶׁר הִגְלֵיתִי אֶתְכֶם שָׁמָּה וְהִתְפַּלְלוּ בַעֲדָהּ אֶל יהוה : כִּי בִשְׁלוֹמָהּ יִהְיֶה לָכֶם שָׁלוֹם. חכִּי כֹה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אַל יַשִּׁיאוּ לָכֶם נְבִיאֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר בְּקִרְבְּכֶם וְקֹסְמֵיכֶם; וְאַל תִּשְׁמְעוּ אֶל חֲלֹמֹתֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם מַחְלְמִים. טכִּי בְשֶׁקֶר הֵם נִבְּאִים לָכֶם בִּשְׁמִי: לֹא שְׁלַחְתִּים נְאֻם יהוה . יכִּי כֹה אָמַר יהוה כִּי לְפִי מְלֹאת לְבָבֶל שִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה אֶפְקֹד אֶתְכֶם; וַהֲקִמֹתִי עֲלֵיכֶם אֶת דְּבָרִי הַטּוֹב לְהָשִׁיב אֶתְכֶם אֶל הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה. יאכִּי אָנֹכִי יָדַעְתִּי אֶת הַמַּחֲשָׁבֹת אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי חֹשֵׁב עֲלֵיכֶם נְאֻם יהוה : מַחְשְׁבוֹת שָׁלוֹם וְלֹא לְרָעָה לָתֵת לָכֶם אַחֲרִית וְתִקְוָה. יבוּקְרָאתֶם אֹתִי וַהֲלַכְתֶּם וְהִתְפַּלַּלְתֶּם אֵלָי ; וְשָׁמַעְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם. יגוּבִקַּשְׁתֶּם אֹתִי וּמְצָאתֶם: כִּי תִדְרְשֻׁנִי בְּכָל לְבַבְכֶם. ידוְנִמְצֵאתִי לָכֶם נְאֻם יהוה וְשַׁבְתִּי אֶת שביתכם (שְׁבוּתְכֶם) וְקִבַּצְתִּי אֶתְכֶם מִכָּל הַגּוֹיִם וּמִכָּל הַמְּקוֹמוֹת אֲשֶׁר הִדַּחְתִּי אֶתְכֶם שָׁם נְאֻם יהוה ; וַהֲשִׁבֹתִי אֶתְכֶם אֶל הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר הִגְלֵיתִי אֶתְכֶם מִשָּׁם. טוכִּי אֲמַרְתֶּם: הֵקִים לָנוּ יהוה נְבִאִים בָּבֶלָה. טזכִּי כֹה אָמַר יהוה אֶל הַמֶּלֶךְ הַיּוֹשֵׁב אֶל כִּסֵּא דָוִד וְאֶל כָּל הָעָם הַיּוֹשֵׁב בָּעִיר הַזֹּאת: אֲחֵיכֶם אֲשֶׁר לֹא יָצְאוּ אִתְּכֶם בַּגּוֹלָה. יזכֹּה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת הִנְנִי מְשַׁלֵּחַ בָּם אֶת הַחֶרֶב אֶת הָרָעָב וְאֶת הַדָּבֶר; וְנָתַתִּי אוֹתָם כַּתְּאֵנִים הַשֹּׁעָרִים אֲשֶׁר לֹא תֵאָכַלְנָה מֵרֹעַ. יחוְרָדַפְתִּי אַחֲרֵיהֶם בַּחֶרֶב בָּרָעָב וּבַדָּבֶר; וּנְתַתִּים לזועה (לְזַעֲוָה) לְכֹל מַמְלְכוֹת הָאָרֶץ לְאָלָה וּלְשַׁמָּה וְלִשְׁרֵקָה וּלְחֶרְפָּה בְּכָל הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר הִדַּחְתִּים שָׁם. יטתַּחַת אֲשֶׁר לֹא שָׁמְעוּ אֶל דְּבָרַי נְאֻם יהוה אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַחְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶם אֶת עֲבָדַי הַנְּבִאִים הַשְׁכֵּם וְשָׁלֹחַ וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם נְאֻם יהוה . כוְאַתֶּם שִׁמְעוּ דְבַר יהוה : כָּל הַגּוֹלָה אֲשֶׁר שִׁלַּחְתִּי מִירוּשָׁלִַם בָּבֶלָה. כאכֹּה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל אַחְאָב בֶּן קוֹלָיָה וְאֶל צִדְקִיָּהוּ בֶן מַעֲשֵׂיָה הַנִּבְּאִים לָכֶם בִּשְׁמִי שָׁקֶר: הִנְנִי נֹתֵן אֹתָם בְּיַד נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל וְהִכָּם לְעֵינֵיכֶם. כבוְלֻקַּח מֵהֶם קְלָלָה לְכֹל גָּלוּת יְהוּדָה אֲשֶׁר בְּבָבֶל לֵאמֹר: יְשִׂמְךָ יהוה כְּצִדְקִיָּהוּ וּכְאֶחָב אֲשֶׁר קָלָם מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל בָּאֵשׁ. כגיַעַן אֲשֶׁר עָשׂוּ נְבָלָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וַיְנַאֲפוּ אֶת נְשֵׁי רֵעֵיהֶם וַיְדַבְּרוּ דָבָר בִּשְׁמִי שֶׁקֶר אֲשֶׁר לוֹא צִוִּיתִם; וְאָנֹכִי הוידע (הַיּוֹדֵעַ) וָעֵד נְאֻם יהוה . כדוְאֶל שְׁמַעְיָהוּ הַנֶּחֱלָמִי תֹּאמַר לֵאמֹר, כהכֹּה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר: יַעַן אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה שָׁלַחְתָּ בְשִׁמְכָה סְפָרִים אֶל כָּל הָעָם אֲשֶׁר בִּירוּשָׁלִַם וְאֶל צְפַנְיָה בֶן מַעֲשֵׂיָה הַכֹּהֵן וְאֶל כָּל הַכֹּהֲנִים לֵאמֹר, כו יהוה נְתָנְךָ כֹהֵן תַּחַת יְהוֹיָדָע הַכֹּהֵן לִהְיוֹת פְּקִדִים בֵּית יהוה לְכָל אִישׁ מְשֻׁגָּע וּמִתְנַבֵּא; וְנָתַתָּה אֹתוֹ אֶל הַמַּהְפֶּכֶת וְאֶל הַצִּינֹק. כזוְעַתָּה לָמָּה לֹא גָעַרְתָּ בְּיִרְמְיָהוּ הָעַנְּתֹתִי הַמִּתְנַבֵּא לָכֶם. כחכִּי עַל כֵּן שָׁלַח אֵלֵינוּ בָּבֶל לֵאמֹר אֲרֻכָּה הִיא; בְּנוּ בָתִּים וְשֵׁבוּ וְנִטְעוּ גַנּוֹת וְאִכְלוּ אֶת פְּרִיהֶן.
כטוַיִּקְרָא צְפַנְיָה הַכֹּהֵן אֶת הַסֵּפֶר הַזֶּה בְּאָזְנֵי יִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא.
לוַיְהִי דְּבַר יהוה אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ לֵאמֹר, לאשְׁלַח עַל כָּל הַגּוֹלָה לֵאמֹר כֹּה אָמַר יהוה אֶל שְׁמַעְיָה הַנֶּחֱלָמִי: יַעַן אֲשֶׁר נִבָּא לָכֶם שְׁמַעְיָה וַאֲנִי לֹא שְׁלַחְתִּיו וַיַּבְטַח אֶתְכֶם עַל שָׁקֶר. לבלָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר יהוה הִנְנִי פֹקֵד עַל שְׁמַעְיָה הַנֶּחֱלָמִי וְעַל זַרְעוֹ לֹא יִהְיֶה לוֹ אִישׁ יוֹשֵׁב בְּתוֹךְ הָעָם הַזֶּה וְלֹא יִרְאֶה בַטּוֹב אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי עֹשֶׂה לְעַמִּי נְאֻם יהוה : כִּי סָרָה דִבֶּר עַל יהוה .
