1Then all the captains of the forces, and Yokhanan Ben Kare’akh, and Yizan-Yahu Ben Hosha-Yah, and all the people, from the least, even unto the greatest, came near, 2and said unto Yirme-Yahu HaNavi, “Let our supplication, we pray, be accepted before you, and pray for us unto יהוה your Elohim, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do behold us; 3that יהוה your Elohim may tell us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.” 4Then Yirme-Yahu HaNavi said unto them, “I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto יהוה your Elohim according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatever thing יהוה shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.” 5Then they said to Yirme-Yahu, ” יהוה be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do not do even according to all the word wherewith יהוה your Elohim shall send you to us. 6Whether it is good, or whether it is evil, we will hearken to the voice of יהוה our Elohim, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we hearken to the voice of יהוה our Elohim.”
7And it came to pass after ten days, that the D’var יהוה came unto Yirme-Yahu. 8Then he called Yokhanan Ben Kare’akh, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people, from the least, even to the greatest, 9and said unto them, “Thus says יהוה , Elohei Yisra’el, unto whom you sent me to present your supplication before Him, 10‘If you will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I turn Myself from the evil that I have done unto you. 11Be not afraid of the king of Bavel, of whom you are afraid; be not afraid of him, says יהוה ; for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12And I will grant you mercies, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land. 13But if you say, ‘We will not abide in this land’, so that you hearken not to the voice of יהוה your Elohim, 14saying, ‘No; but we will go into the land of Mitzrayim, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the shofar, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we abide’; 15now therefore hear the D’var יהוה ‘, O remnant of Yehudah, thus says יהוה Tzeva’ot, Elohei Yisra’el, ‘If you wholly set your faces to enter into Mitzrayim, and go to sojourn there, 16then it shall come to pass that the sword, which you fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Mitzrayim, and the famine, whereof you are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Mitzrayim; and there you shall die. 17So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Mitzrayim to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them. 18For thus says יהוה Tzeva’ot, Elohei Yisra’el, ‘As My anger and My fury has been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, so shall My fury be poured forth upon you, when you shall enter into Mitzrayim; and you shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more’.’ 19 יהוה has spoken concerning you, O remnant of Yehudah. Go not into Mitzrayim; know certainly that I have forewarned you this day. 20For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me unto יהוה your Elohim, saying, ‘Pray for us unto יהוה our Elohim; and according unto all that יהוה our Elohim shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it’; 21and I have this day declared it to you; but you have not hearkened to the voice of יהוה your Elohim in anything for which He has sent me unto you. 22Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go to sojourn there.”
אוַיִּגְּשׁוּ כָּל שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים וְיוֹחָנָן בֶּן קָרֵחַ וִיזַנְיָה בֶּן הוֹשַׁעְיָה וְכָל הָעָם מִקָּטֹן וְעַד גָּדוֹל. בוַיֹּאמְרוּ אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא תִּפָּל נָא תְחִנָּתֵנוּ לְפָנֶיךָ וְהִתְפַּלֵּל בַּעֲדֵנוּ אֶל יהוה אֱלֹהֶיךָ בְּעַד כָּל הַשְּׁאֵרִית הַזֹּאת: כִּי נִשְׁאַרְנוּ מְעַט מֵהַרְבֵּה כַּאֲשֶׁר עֵינֶיךָ רֹאוֹת אֹתָנוּ. גוְיַגֶּד לָנוּ יהוה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֶת הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר נֵלֶךְ בָּהּ וְאֶת הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשֶׂה. דוַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם יִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא שָׁמַעְתִּי הִנְנִי מִתְפַּלֵּל אֶל יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם כְּדִבְרֵיכֶם; וְהָיָה כָּל הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר יַעֲנֶה יהוה אֶתְכֶם אַגִּיד לָכֶם לֹא אֶמְנַע מִכֶּם דָּבָר. הוְהֵמָּה אָמְרוּ אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ יְהִי יהוה בָּנוּ לְעֵד אֱמֶת וְנֶאֱמָן: אִם לֹא כְּכָל הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁלָחֲךָ יהוה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֵלֵינוּ כֵּן נַעֲשֶׂה. ואִם טוֹב וְאִם רָע בְּקוֹל יהוה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֲשֶׁר אנו (אֲנַחְנוּ) שֹׁלְחִים אֹתְךָ אֵלָיו נִשְׁמָע: לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר יִיטַב לָנוּ כִּי נִשְׁמַע בְּקוֹל יהוה אֱלֹהֵינוּ.
זוַיְהִי מִקֵּץ עֲשֶׂרֶת יָמִים; וַיְהִי דְבַר יהוה אֶל יִרְמְיָהוּ. חוַיִּקְרָא אֶל יוֹחָנָן בֶּן קָרֵחַ וְאֶל כָּל שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ; וּלְכָל הָעָם לְמִקָּטֹן וְעַד גָּדוֹל. טוַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם כֹּה אָמַר יהוה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר שְׁלַחְתֶּם אֹתִי אֵלָיו לְהַפִּיל תְּחִנַּתְכֶם לְפָנָיו. יאִם שׁוֹב תֵּשְׁבוּ בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת וּבָנִיתִי אֶתְכֶם וְלֹא אֶהֱרֹס וְנָטַעְתִּי אֶתְכֶם וְלֹא אֶתּוֹשׁ: כִּי נִחַמְתִּי אֶל הָרָעָה אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי לָכֶם. יאאַל תִּירְאוּ מִפְּנֵי מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם יְרֵאִים מִפָּנָיו; אַל תִּירְאוּ מִמֶּנּוּ נְאֻם יהוה כִּי אִתְּכֶם אָנִי לְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶתְכֶם וּלְהַצִּיל אֶתְכֶם מִיָּדוֹ. יבוְאֶתֵּן לָכֶם רַחֲמִים וְרִחַם אֶתְכֶם; וְהֵשִׁיב אֶתְכֶם אֶל אַדְמַתְכֶם. יגוְאִם אֹמְרִים אַתֶּם לֹא נֵשֵׁב בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת לְבִלְתִּי שְׁמֹעַ בְּקוֹל יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם. ידלֵאמֹר לֹא כִּי אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם נָבוֹא אֲשֶׁר לֹא נִרְאֶה מִלְחָמָה וְקוֹל שׁוֹפָר לֹא נִשְׁמָע; וְלַלֶּחֶם לֹא נִרְעָב וְשָׁם נֵשֵׁב. טווְעַתָּה לָכֵן שִׁמְעוּ דְבַר יהוה שְׁאֵרִית יְהוּדָה: כֹּה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אִם אַתֶּם שׂוֹם תְּשִׂמוּן פְּנֵיכֶם לָבֹא מִצְרַיִם וּבָאתֶם לָגוּר שָׁם. טזוְהָיְתָה הַחֶרֶב אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם יְרֵאִים מִמֶּנָּה שָׁם תַּשִּׂיג אֶתְכֶם בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; וְהָרָעָב אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם דֹּאֲגִים מִמֶּנּוּ שָׁם יִדְבַּק אַחֲרֵיכֶם מִצְרַיִם וְשָׁם תָּמֻתוּ. יזוְיִהְיוּ כָל הָאֲנָשִׁים אֲשֶׁר שָׂמוּ אֶת פְּנֵיהֶם לָבוֹא מִצְרַיִם לָגוּר שָׁם יָמוּתוּ בַּחֶרֶב בָּרָעָב וּבַדָּבֶר: וְלֹא יִהְיֶה לָהֶם שָׂרִיד וּפָלִיט מִפְּנֵי הָרָעָה אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי מֵבִיא עֲלֵיהֶם. יחכִּי כֹה אָמַר יהוה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּאֲשֶׁר נִתַּךְ אַפִּי וַחֲמָתִי עַל יֹשְׁבֵי יְרוּשָׁלִַם כֵּן תִּתַּךְ חֲמָתִי עֲלֵיכֶם בְּבֹאֲכֶם מִצְרָיִם; וִהְיִיתֶם לְאָלָה וּלְשַׁמָּה וְלִקְלָלָה וּלְחֶרְפָּה וְלֹא תִרְאוּ עוֹד אֶת הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה. יטדִּבֶּר יהוה עֲלֵיכֶם שְׁאֵרִית יְהוּדָה אַל תָּבֹאוּ מִצְרָיִם; יָדֹעַ תֵּדְעוּ כִּי הַעִידֹתִי בָכֶם הַיּוֹם. ככִּי התעתים (הִתְעֵיתֶם) בְּנַפְשׁוֹתֵיכֶם כִּי אַתֶּם שְׁלַחְתֶּם אֹתִי אֶל יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לֵאמֹר הִתְפַּלֵּל בַּעֲדֵנוּ אֶל יהוה אֱלֹהֵינוּ; וּכְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יֹאמַר יהוה אֱלֹהֵינוּ כֵּן הַגֶּד לָנוּ וְעָשִׂינוּ. כאוָאַגִּד לָכֶם הַיּוֹם; וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם בְּקוֹל יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם וּלְכֹל אֲשֶׁר שְׁלָחַנִי אֲלֵיכֶם. כבוְעַתָּה יָדֹעַ תֵּדְעוּ כִּי בַּחֶרֶב בָּרָעָב וּבַדֶּבֶר תָּמוּתוּ בַּמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר חֲפַצְתֶּם לָבוֹא לָגוּר שָׁם.
