1D’var יהוה , which came to Yirme-Yahu HaNavi concerning the nations. 2“Of Mitzrayim, concerning the army of Paroh Nekho king of Mitzrayim, which was by the river Perat in Karkemish, which Nevukhadretzar king of Bavel smote in the fourth year of Y’hoyakim Ben Yoshi-Yahu, Melekh Yehudah. 3Make ready buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. 4Harness the horses, and mount, you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, put on the coats of mail. 5Why do I see them dismayed and turned backward, and their mighty ones are beaten down, and they are fled apace, and do not look back? Terror is on every side, says יהוה . The6 swift cannot flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Perat have they stumbled and fallen. 7Who is this like the Nile that rises up, like the rivers whose waters toss themselves? 8Mitzrayim is like the Nile that rises up, and like the rivers whose waters toss themselves; and he says, ‘I will rise up, I will cover the earth, I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof’. 9Prance, you horses, and rush madly, you chariots; and let the mighty men go forth: Kush and Put, that handle the shield, and the Ludim, that handle and bend the bow. 10For Adonai יהוה Tzeva’ot shall have on that day a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of His adversaries; and the sword shall devour and be satiated, and shall be made drunk with their blood; for Adonai יהוה Tzeva’ot has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Perat. 11Go up into Gilad, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Mitzrayim; in vain do you use many medicines; there is no cure for you. 12The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together.”
Bo 13HaDavar that יהוה spoke to Yirme-Yahu HaNavi, how that Nevukhadretzar king of Bavel should come and smite the land of Mitzrayim. 14“Declare in Mitzrayim, and announce in Migdol, and announce in Nof and in Takh’pankhes; say, ‘Stand forth, and prepare, for the sword has devoured round about you’. 15Why is your strong one overthrown? He stood not, because יהוה did thrust him down. 16He made many to stumble; yes, they fell one upon another, and said, ‘Arise, and let us return to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword’. 17They cried there, ‘Paroh king of Mitzrayim is but a noise; he has let the appointed time pass by’. 18As I live, says HaMelekh, whose Name is יהוה Tzeva’ot, surely like Tavor among the mountains, and like Karmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19O you daughter that dwells in Mitzrayim, furnish yourself to go into captivity; for Nof shall become a desolation, and shall be laid waste, without inhabitant. 20Mitzrayim is a very fair heifer; but the gadfly out of the north is come, it is come. 21Also her mercenaries in the midst of her are like calves of the stall, for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they did not stand; for the day of their calamity is come upon them, the time of their visitation. 22The sound thereof shall go like the serpent’s; for they march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. 23They cut down her forest, says יהוה , though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable. 24The daughter of Mitzrayim is put to shame; she is delivered into the hand of the people of the north. 25 יהוה Tzeva’ot, Elohei Yisra’el, says, behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Paroh, and Mitzrayim, with her gods, and her kings; even Paroh, and them that trust in him; 26and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nevukhadretzar king of Bavel, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says יהוה ‘.”
27“But fear not, O Ya’akov My servant, neither be dismayed, O Yisra’el; for, lo, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Ya’akov shall again be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid. 28Fear not, O Ya’akov My servant, says יהוה , for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not make a full end of you; and I will correct you in measure, but will not utterly destroy you.” end Bo
