1In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, during the governorship of Pontius Pilatos in Y’hudah, when Herodus was tetrarch of the Galil, and his brother Filipos tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanius tetrarch of Abileena, 2during the priesthoods of Khanan and Kayafah, D’var HaElohim came to Yokhanan Ben Zekhar-Yah in the wilderness. 3And he went throughout the country around Yarden, declaring the immersion of repentance for the forgiveness of sins; 4as it is written in the book of the words of Yesha-Yahu HaNavi, “The voice which calls in the wilderness, ‘Prepare Derekh יהוה , make the paths of our Elohim straight in the plain. 5Let all the valleys be filled up, and all the mountains and hills be leveled; let the crooked places be made straight, and the rough places like a plain; 6and let all flesh see the Salvation of Elohim.’” 7And he said to the people who were coming to him to be immersed, “O offspring of scorpions, who has warned you to escape from the anger which is coming? 8Therefore bring forth fruits which are worthy of repentance; and do not begin to say within yourselves, ‘We have Avraham as our father;’ for I say to you that Elohim can raise up children for Avraham from these stones. 9Behold, the axe is already placed at the root of the trees; therefore every tree which bears not good fruits will be cut down and cast into the fire.” 10And the people asked him, saying, “What then shall we do?” 11He answered, saying to them, “He who has two shirts, let him give to him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise.” 12And there came also tax collectors to be immersed, and they said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” 13He said to them, “Do not exact anything more than what is commanded you to exact.” 14And the soldiers also asked him saying, “What shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not do violence to any man, and do not accuse any man; your own wages should be enough for you.”
15While the people were placing their hope on Yokhanan, and all of them were thinking in their hearts, ‘Perhaps he is the Mashi’akh,’ 16Yokhanan answered, saying to them, “Behold, I immerse you with water; but one is coming after me, who is greater than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen; He will immerse you with The Ru’akh HaKodesh, and with fire. 17He holds a shovel in his hand, and purifies His threshing; the wheat He gathers into his barns, and the straw He burns in the unquenchable fire.” 18Many other things also he taught and declared to the people. 19Now Herodus the tetrarch, because he was rebuked by Yokhanan concerning Herodias, wife of Filipos his brother, and for all the evil things that he was doing, 20added this also to them all, that he put Yokhanan into prison.
21It came to pass when all the people were immersed, Yeshua also was immersed, and while He prayed, Heaven was opened, 22and The Ru’akh HaKodesh descended on Him, in the form of a dove, and a voice from Heaven, saying, “You are my Ben HaAhuv; with you I am pleased.” 23Now Yeshua was about thirty years old, and He was supposed to be the son of Yosef, the son of Heli, 24the son of Matat, the son of Levi, the son of Melkhi, the son of Yoni, the son of Yosef, 25the son of Matat, the son of Amotz, the son of Nakhum, the son of Khasli, the son of Naggai, 26the son of Ma’at, the son of Matat, the son of Shemei, the son of Yosef, the son of Yehudah, 27the son of Yokhanan, the son of Resha, the son of Zerubavel, the son of She’alti’el, the son of Neri, 28the son of Malki, the son of Adi, the son of Kosam, the son of Elmoda, the son of Er, 29the son of Yosi, the son of Eli’ezer, the son of Yoram, the son of Matita, the son of Levi, 30the son of Shimon, the son of Yehudah, the son of Yosef, the son of Yonam, the son of Eliakhim, 31the son of Malya, the son of Ha’Adami, the son of Mata, the son of Natan, Ben David, 32the son of Yishai, the son of Oved, the son of Bo’az, the son of Salmon, the son of Nakhshon, 33the son of Aminadav, the son of Aram, the son of Khetzron, the son of Peretz, the son of Yehudah, 34the son of Ya’akov, the son of Yitz’khak, the son of Avraham, the son of Terakh, the son of Nakhor, 35the son of Serug, the son of Arau, the son of Peleg, the son of Ever, the son of Sh’lakh, 36the son of Kenan, the son of Arfaxar, the son of Shem, the son of No’akh, the son of Lamekh, 37the son of Metuselah, the son of Khanokh, the son of Yared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Kenan, 38the son of Enosh, the son of Shet, the son of Adam, who was of Elohim.
