1Then Yeshua spoke with the people and with His Talmidim. 2And He said to them, “The Sofrim and the P’rushim sit on the Seat of Moshe. 3Therefore, whatever they tell you to obey, obey and do it, but do not do according to their works; for they say and do not. 4And they bind heavy burdens, and put them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to touch them, even with their finger. 5And all their works they do just to be seen by men; for they make grandiose prayers, and they lengthen the tekhelet of their robes, 6and they like the chief places at feasts, and the front seats in the Beit K’nessets, 7and the greetings in the streets, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi.’ 8But you, do not be called, ‘Rabbi;’ for one is your Rabbi, and all of you are brethren. 9And call no one on earth, ‘Father,’ for one is Avikhem in Heaven. 10Nor be called leaders, for one is your leader, the Mashi’akh. 11But he who is greatest among you, let him be your servant. 12For whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.”
13“Woe to you, Sofrim and P’rushim, you hypocrites! For you consume the houses of widows, and with pretense you make long prayers; because of this you shall receive a greater judgment. 14Woe to you, Sofrim and P’rushim, you hypocrites! For you have shut off Malkhut HaShamayim against men; for you do not enter into it yourselves, and do not permit those who would enter. 15Woe to you, Sofrim and P’rushim, you hypocrites! For you traverse sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him the son of Gehinom twice more than yourselves. 16Woe to you, blind guides, for you say, ‘Whoever swears by the Heikhal, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold which is in the Heikhal, he is guilty!’ 17O you fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold, or the Heikhal that consecrates the gold? 18And ‘Whoever swears by the Mizbe’akh, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the offering that is on it, he is guilty’. 19O you fools and blind! For which is greater, the offering, or the Mizbe’akh that consecrates the offering? 20Therefore he who swears by the Mizbe’akh, he swears by it and by everything that is on it. 21And whoever swears by the Heikhal, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it. 22And he who swears by Heaven swears by the Throne of Elohim, and by Him who sits on it. 23Woe to you, Sofrim and P’rushim, you hypocrites! For you take tenth-parts on mint, dill, and cummin, and you have overlooked the more important matters of the Torah, such as justice, compassion, and absolute trust. These were necessary for you to have done, without having left the others undone. 24O blind guides, who strain at gnats and swallow camels! 25Woe to you, Sofrim and P’rushim, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of extortion and iniquity. 26Blind P’rushim! Clean first the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that their outside may also be clean. 27Woe to you, Sofrim and P’rushim, you hypocrites! For you are like tombs painted white, which look beautiful from the outside, but inside are full of dead bones and all kinds of corruption. 28Even so, from the outside you appear to men to be Tzadikim, but from within you are full of iniquity and hypocrisy. 29Woe to you, Sofrim and P’rushim, you hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the Nevi’im, and you decorate the graves of HaTzadikim; 30and you say, ‘If we had been living in the days of our forefathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the Nevi’im.’ 31Now you testify concerning yourselves that you are the children of those who killed the Nevi’im. 32You also fill up the measure of your fathers. 33O you serpents, and seed of scorpions! How can you flee from the judgment of Gehinom?”
34“Because of this, I am sending to you Nevi’im and wise men and Sofrim; some of them you will kill, and you will execute them on stakes; and some you will scourge in your Beit K’nessets, and pursue them from city to city, 35so that all the blood of the Tzadikim shed on the ground may come on you, from the blood of Avel HaTzadik down to the blood of Zakhar-Yah Ben Berekh-Yah, whom you killed between the Heikhal and the Mizbe’akh. 36Truly I say to you, all of these things shall come upon this generation. 37O Yerushalayim, Yerushalayim, murderess of the Nevi’im, and stoner of those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather together your children, just as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and yet you would not! 38Behold, your house will be left to you desolate. 39For I say to you, from now you will not see me until you say, ‘Barukh HaBa B’Shem יהוה .’”
אאָז יְדַבֵּר יֵשׁוּעַ אֶל הֲמוֹן הָעָם וְאֶל תַּלְמִידָיו לֵאמֹר, בהַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים יֹשְׁבִים עַל כִּסֵּא משֶׁה. גלָכֵן כֹּל אֲשֶׁר יֹאמְרוּ לָכֶם שִׁמְרוּ וַעֲשׂוּ אַךְ כְּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶם אַל תַּעֲשׂוּ, כִּי אֹמְרִים הֵם וְאֵינָם עֹשִׂים. דקוֹשְׁרִים מַשְׂאֹת כְּבֵדִים וְעֹמְסִים עַל כִּתְפֵי בְּנֵי אָדָם וְהֵם אֵינָם רוֹצִים לִנְגֹּעַ בָּהֶם אַף בְּאֶצְבָּעָם. הוְעֹשִׂים אֶת כָּל מַעֲשֵׂיהֶם לְהֵרָאוֹת בָּהֶם לִבְנֵי אָדָם כִּי מַרְחִיבִים אֶת תְּפִלֵּיהֶם וּמַאֲרִיכִים אֶת צִיצִיּוֹת בִּגְדֵיהֶם. ווְאֹהֲבִים הַמְּקוֹמוֹת הָרָאשׁיִּים בַּסְּעוּדוֹת וְלָשֶׁבֶת רִאשֹׁנִים בְּבָתֵּי הַכְּנֶסֶת. זוְאֶת בִּרְכַּת הַשָּׁלוֹם בָּרְחוֹבוֹת וְשֶׁיִּקְרְאוּ לָהֶם רַבִּי עַל יְדֵי הָאֲנָשִׁים. חאֲבָל אַתֶּם אַל יִקָּרֵא לָכֶם רַבִּי כִּי אֶחָד הוּא רַבְּכֶם וְאַתֶּם אַחִים כֻּלְּכֶם. טוְאַל תִּקְרְאוּ אָב לְאִישׁ לָכֶם בָּאָרֶץ כִּי אֶחָד הוּא אֲבִיכֶם שֶּׁבַּשָּׁמַיִם. יוְאַל תִּקָּרְאוּ מַנְהִיגִים, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁאֶחָד הוּא מַנְהִיגְכֶם : הַמָּשִׁיחַ. יאוְהַגָּדוֹל יְהִי לָכֶם לִמְשָׁרֵת. יבכָּל הַמְרוֹמֵם אֶת עַצְמוֹ יִשָׁפֵל וְכָל הַמַּשְׁפִּיל אֶת עַצְמוֹ יְרוֹמָם.
יגאוֹי לָכֶם הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים מַעֲמִידֵי פָּנִים! כִּי אוֹכְלִים אַתֶּם אֶת בָּתֵּי הָאַלְמָנוֹת וּמַאֲרִיכִים בִּתְּפִלּוֹתֵיכֶם לְמַרְאֵה עֵינָיִם תַּחַת זֹאת מִשְׁפָּט גָּדוֹל יֶתֶר מְאֹד תִּשָׁפֵטוּ. ידאוֹי לָכֶם הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים מַעֲמִידֵי פָּנִים! כִּי סֹגְרִים אַתֶּם אֵת מַלְכוּת הַשָׁמָיִם מִפְּנֵי הָאָדָם הֵן אַתֶּם לֹא נִכְנָסִים בָהּ וְאֵת לַנִּכְנָסִים לֹא תַנִּיחוּ לְהִכָּנֵס. טואוֹי לָכֶם הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים מַעֲמִידֵי פָּנִים! כִּי סוֹבֲבִים אַתֶּם בַּיָּם וּבַיַּבָּשָׁה לְמַעַן לַעֲשׂוֹת גֵּר אֶחָד וְכִי יִתְגַּיַּר תַּעֲשׂוּ אוֹתוֹ לְבֶן גֵּיהִנֹּם כִּפְלַיִם כָּכֶם. טזאוֹי לָכֶם מַנְהִיגִים עִוְרִים הָאֹמְרִים הַנִּשְׁבָּע בַּהֵיכָל אֵין זֹאת מְאוּמָה וְהַנִּשְׁבָּע בִּזְהַב הַהֵיכָל חַיָּב! יזכְּסִילִים וְעִוְרִים כִּי מַה הוּא הַגָּדוֹל אִם הַזָּהָב אוֹ הַהֵיכָל הַמְקַדֵּשׁ אֶת הַזָּהָב? יחוַאֲמַרְתֶּם הַנִּשְׁבָּע בַּמִּזְבֵּחַ זֶה לֹא כְלוּם, אֲבָל הַנִּשְׁבָּע בַּקָּרְבָּן אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו חַיָּב. יטכְּסִילִים וְעִוְרִים! כִּי מַה הוּא הַגָּדוֹל אִם הַקָּרְבָּן אוֹ הַמִּזְבֵּחַ הַמְקַדֵּשׁ אֶת הַקָּרְבָּן? כלָכֵן הַנִּשְׁבָּע בַּמִּזְבֵּחַ נִשְׁבַּע בּוֹ וּבְכֹל אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו. כאוְהַנִּשְׁבָּע בַּהֵיכָל נִשְׁבַּע בּוֹ וּבַשׂוֹכֵן בּוֹ. כבוְהַנִּשְׁבָּע בַּשָׁמָיִם נִשְׁבַּע בְּכִסֵּא אֱלֹהִים וּבַיֹּשֵׁב עָלָיו. כגאוֹי לָכֶם הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים מַעֲמִידֵי פָּנִים! כִּי מְעַשְּׂרִים אַתֶּם אֶת הַמִּנְתָּא וְאֶת הַשֶׁבֶת וְאֶת הַכַּמֹּן וַעֲזַבְתֶּם אֶת הַנִּכְבָּדוֹת שֶׁבַּתּוֹרָה אֶת הַמִּשְׁפָּט וְאֶת הַחֶסֶד וְאֶת הָאֱמוּנָה; רָאוּי הָיָה לָכֶם לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶת אֵלֶּה וְלֹא תַּעַזְבוּ גַּם אֶת הַאַחָרִים. כדמוֹרֵי דֶרֶךְ עִוְּרִים הַמְסַנֲנִים אֵת הַיַתּוּשִׁים וּבֹלְעִים אֵת הַגְּמַלִּים! כהאוֹי לָכֶם הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים מַעֲמִידֵי פָּנִים! כִּי מְטַהֲרִים אַתֶּם אֶת חוּץ הַכּוֹס וְאֶת הַקְּעָרָה, וְתוֹכָן מָלֵא גָּזֵל וְעָוֶל. כופְּרוּשִׁים עִוְרִים טַהֲרוּ תְּחִלָּה אֶת תּוֹךְ הַכּוֹס וְהַקְּעָרָה לְמַעַן תִּטָּהֵר גַּם מִחוּץ לָּהֶן. כזאוֹי לָכֶם הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים מַעֲמִידֵי פָּנִים, כִּי דֹמִים אַתֶּם לַקְּבָרִים הַמְסֻיָּדִים הַנִּרְאִים יָפִים מִחוּץ וְתוֹכָם מָלֵא עַצְמוֹת מֵתִים וְכָל טֻמְאָה. כחכָּכָה צַדִּיקִים אַתֶּם לְמַרְאֵה עֵינֵי בְנֵי אָדָם וְתוֹכֲכֶם מָלֵא עָוֶל וּצְבִיעוּת. כטאוֹי לָכֶם הַסּוֹפְרִים וְהַפְּרוּשִׁים מַעֲמִידֵי פָּנִים! כִּי בּוֹנִים אַתֶּם קִבְרֵי הַנְּבִיאִים וּמְקַשְּׁטִים אֶת בָּתֵּי הַקֶּבֶר שֶׁל הַצַּדִּיקִים. לוַאֲמַרְתֶּם אִלּוּ חָיִינוּ בִּימֵי אֲבוֹתֵינוּ לֹא הָיִינוּ שֻׁתָּפִים לָהֶם בְּדַם הַנְּבִיאִים. לאוְהִנֵּה אַתֶּם מְעִידִים בְּעַצְמְכֶם שֶׁבָּנִים אַתֶּם לְאוֹתָם שֶֶׁהָרְגוּ אֶת הַנְּבִיאִים. לבוּבְכֵן מַלְּאוּ אַתֶּם סְאַת אֲבוֹתֵיכֶם. לגנְחָשִׁים זֶרַע צִפְעוֹנִים! אֵיךְ תִּמָּלְטוּ מִדִּין גֵּיהִנֹּם?
לדלָכֵן הִנְנִי שֹׁלֵחַ לָכֶם נְבִיאִים וַחֲכָמִים וְסוֹפְרִים וּמֵהֶם תַּהַרְגוּ וְתִצְלְבוּ וּמֵהֶם תַּלְקוּ בִּכְנֵסִיּוֹתֵיכֶם וְתִרְדְּפוּ אוֹתָם מֵעִיר לָעִיר. להלְמַעַן יָבֹא עֲלֵיכֶם כָּל דָּם הַצַּדִּיקִים הַנִּשְׁפָּךְ בָּאָרֶץ מִדַּם הֶבֶל הַצַּדִּיק עַד דַּם זְכַרְיָה בֶן בֶּרֶכְיָה אֲשֶׁר הֲרַגְתֶּם אוֹתוֹ בֵּין הַהֵיכָל וְלַמִּזְבֵּחַ. לואָמֵן אֹמֵר אֲנִי לָכֶם בֹּא יָבֹא כָּל אֵלֶּה עַל הַדּוֹר הַזֶּה. לזיְרוּשָׁלַיִם יְרוּשָׁלַיִם הַהֹרֶגֶת אֶת הַנְּבִיאִים וְהַרוֹגֶמֶת אֶת הַשְׁלוּחִים אֵלֶיהָ כַּמַּה פְּעָמִים רָצִיתִי לְקַבֵּץ אֶת בָּנַיִךְ כַּתַּרְנְגֹלֶת הַמְּקַבֶּצֶת אֶת אֶפְרֹחֶיהָ תַּחַת כְּנָפֶיהָ וְלֹא רְצִיתֶם! לחהִנֵּה בֵיתְכֶם יֵעָזֵב לָכֶם חָרֵב. לטכִּי אֲנִי אֹמֵר לָכֶם מֵעַתָּה לֹא תִרְאוּנִי עַד אֲשֶׁר תֹּאמְרוּ בָּרוּך הַבָּא בְּשֵׁם יהוה.
