Shmu’el Alef 3 – שמואל א פרק ג

¹And the child Shmu’el ministered unto  יהוה  before Eli. And the D’var  יהוה  was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.

²And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place–now his eyes had begun to wax dim, that he could not see– ³and the lamp of Elohim was not yet gone out, and Shmu’el was laid down to sleep in the Heikhal of  יהוה , where the Aron of Elohim was.

⁴Then,  יהוה  called, “Shmu’el;” and he said, “Here am I.”  ⁵And he ran unto Eli, and said, “Here am I; for you did call me.” And he said, “I called you not; lie down again.”  And he went and lay down.  ⁶And  יהוה  called yet again, “Shmu’el.” And Shmu’el arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here am I; for you did call me.” And he answered, “I called you not, my son; lie down again.” ⁷Now Shmu’el did not yet know  יהוה , neither was the D’var  יהוה  yet revealed unto him. ⁸And  יהוה  called, “Shmu’el,” again, the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here am I; for you did call me.”  And Eli perceived that  יהוה  was calling the child. ⁹Therefore Eli said unto Shmu’el, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if you are called, that you shall say, ‘Speak,  יהוה  ; for Your servant hears.”  So Shmu’el went and lay down in his place. 

¹⁰And  יהוה  came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Shmu’el, Shmu’el.” Then Shmu’el said, “Speak; for Your servant hears.”

¹¹And  יהוה  said to Shmu’el, “Behold, I will do a thing in Yisra’el, at which both the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle. ¹²In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even unto the end. ¹³For I have told him that I will judge his house forever, for the iniquity, in that he knew that his sons did bring a curse upon themselves, and he rebuked them not. ¹⁴And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be expiated with sacrifice nor offering forever.” ¹⁵And Shmu’el lay until the morning, and opened the doors of Beit  יהוה . And Shmu’el feared to tell Eli the vision. ¹⁶Then Eli called Shmu’el, and said, “Shmu’el, my son.” And he said, “Here am I.” ¹⁷And he said, “What is the thing that He has spoken unto you? I pray, hide it not from me; Elohim do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that He spoke unto you.” ¹⁸And Shmu’el told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is  יהוה ; let Him do what seems good to Him.”

¹⁹And Shmu’el grew, and  יהוה  was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground. ²⁰And all Yisra’el from Dan even to Be’er Shava knew that Shmu’el was established to be a Navi unto  יהוה .  And²¹  יהוה  appeared again in Shiloh; for  יהוה  revealed Himself to Shmu’el in Shiloh as the D’var  יהוה . 

^אוְהַנַּעַר שְׁמוּאֵל מְשָׁרֵת אֶת יהוה לִפְנֵי עֵלִי; וּדְבַר יהוה הָיָה יָקָר בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם אֵין חָזוֹן נִפְרָץ.

^בוַיְהִי בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא וְעֵלִי שֹׁכֵב בִּמְקוֹמוֹ; וְעֵינָו הֵחֵלּוּ כֵהוֹת לֹא יוּכַל לִרְאוֹת. ^גוְנֵר אֱלֹהִים טֶרֶם יִכְבֶּה וּשְׁמוּאֵל שֹׁכֵב בְּהֵיכַל יהוה אֲשֶׁר שָׁם אֲרוֹן אֱלֹהִים.

^דוַיִּקְרָא יהוה אֶל שְׁמוּאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּנִי. ^הוַיָּרָץ אֶל עֵלִי וַיֹּאמֶר הִנְנִי כִּי קָרָאתָ לִּי וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא קָרָאתִי שׁוּב שְׁכָב; וַיֵּלֶךְ וַיִּשְׁכָּב. ^ווַיֹּסֶף יהוה קְרֹא עוֹד שְׁמוּאֵל וַיָּקָם שְׁמוּאֵל וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶל עֵלִי וַיֹּאמֶר הִנְנִי כִּי קָרָאתָ לִי; וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא קָרָאתִי בְנִי שׁוּב שְׁכָב. ^זוּשְׁמוּאֵל טֶרֶם יָדַע אֶת יהוה ; וְטֶרֶם יִגָּלֶה אֵלָיו דְּבַר יהוה . ^חוַיֹּסֶף יהוה קְרֹא שְׁמוּאֵל בַּשְּׁלִישִׁת וַיָּקָם וַיֵּלֶךְ אֶל עֵלִי וַיֹּאמֶר הִנְנִי כִּי קָרָאתָ לִי; וַיָּבֶן עֵלִי כִּי יהוה קֹרֵא לַנָּעַר. ^טוַיֹּאמֶר עֵלִי לִשְׁמוּאֵל לֵךְ שְׁכָב וְהָיָה אִם יִקְרָא אֵלֶיךָ וְאָמַרְתָּ דַּבֵּר יהוה כִּי שֹׁמֵעַ עַבְדֶּךָ; וַיֵּלֶךְ שְׁמוּאֵל וַיִּשְׁכַּב בִּמְקוֹמוֹ.

^יוַיָּבֹא יהוה וַיִּתְיַצַּב וַיִּקְרָא כְפַעַם בְּפַעַם שְׁמוּאֵל שְׁמוּאֵל; וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל דַּבֵּר כִּי שֹׁמֵעַ עַבְדֶּךָ.

^יאוַיֹּאמֶר יהוה אֶל שְׁמוּאֵל הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי עֹשֶׂה דָבָר בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל: אֲשֶׁר כָּל שֹׁמְעוֹ תְּצִלֶּינָה שְׁתֵּי אָזְנָיו. ^יבבַּיּוֹם הַהוּא אָקִים אֶל עֵלִי אֵת כָּל אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתִּי אֶל בֵּיתוֹ הָחֵל וְכַלֵּה. ^יגוְהִגַּדְתִּי לוֹ כִּי שֹׁפֵט אֲנִי אֶת בֵּיתוֹ עַד עוֹלָם בַּעֲו‍ֹן אֲשֶׁר יָדַע כִּי מְקַלְלִים לָהֶם בָּנָיו וְלֹא כִהָה בָּם. ^ידוְלָכֵן נִשְׁבַּעְתִּי לְבֵית עֵלִי: אִם יִתְכַּפֵּר עֲו‍ֹן בֵּית עֵלִי בְּזֶבַח וּבְמִנְחָה עַד עוֹלָם. ^טווַיִּשְׁכַּב שְׁמוּאֵל עַד הַבֹּקֶר וַיִּפְתַּח אֶת דַּלְתוֹת בֵּית יהוה ; וּשְׁמוּאֵל יָרֵא מֵהַגִּיד אֶת הַמַּרְאָה אֶל עֵלִי. ^טזוַיִּקְרָא עֵלִי אֶת שְׁמוּאֵל וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל בְּנִי; וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּנִי. ^יזוַיֹּאמֶר מָה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֵלֶיךָ אַל נָא תְכַחֵד מִמֶּנִּי: כֹּה יַעֲשֶׂה לְּךָ אֱלֹהִים וְכֹה יוֹסִיף אִם תְּכַחֵד מִמֶּנִּי דָּבָר מִכָּל הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֵלֶיךָ. ^יחוַיַּגֶּד לוֹ שְׁמוּאֵל אֶת כָּל הַדְּבָרִים וְלֹא כִחֵד מִמֶּנּוּ; וַיֹּאמַר יהוה הוּא הַטּוֹב בְּעֵינָו יַעֲשֶׂה.

^יטוַיִּגְדַּל שְׁמוּאֵל; וַיהוה הָיָה עִמּוֹ וְלֹא הִפִּיל מִכָּל דְּבָרָיו אָרְצָה. ^כוַיֵּדַע כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל מִדָּן וְעַד בְּאֵר שָׁבַע: כִּי נֶאֱמָן שְׁמוּאֵל לְנָבִיא לַיהוה . ^כאוַיֹּסֶף יהוה לְהֵרָאֹה בְשִׁלֹה: כִּי נִגְלָה יהוה אֶל שְׁמוּאֵל בְּשִׁלוֹ בִּדְבַר יהוה .
