1Shir HaMa’alot; of Shlomo. Except יהוה builds the house, they labor in vain that build it; except יהוה keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain.
2It is vain for you that you rise early, and sit up late, you that eat the bread of toil; so He gives unto His beloved in sleep.
3Lo, children are a heritage of יהוה ; the fruit of the womb is a reward.
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of one’s youth.
5Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them; they shall not be put to shame, when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
אשִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת לִשְׁלֹמֹה: אִם יהוה לֹא יִבְנֶה בַיִת שָׁוְא עָמְלוּ בוֹנָיו בּוֹ; אִם יהוה לֹא יִשְׁמָר עִיר שָׁוְא שָׁקַד שׁוֹמֵר.
בשָׁוְא לָכֶם מַשְׁכִּימֵי קוּם מְאַחֲרֵי שֶׁבֶת אֹכְלֵי לֶחֶם הָעֲצָבִים; כֵּן יִתֵּן לִידִידוֹ שֵׁנָא.
גהִנֵּה נַחֲלַת יהוה בָּנִים: שָׂכָר פְּרִי הַבָּטֶן.
דכְּחִצִּים בְּיַד גִּבּוֹר כֵּן בְּנֵי הַנְּעוּרִים.
האַשְׁרֵי הַגֶּבֶר אֲשֶׁר מִלֵּא אֶת אַשְׁפָּתוֹ מֵהֶם: לֹא יֵבֹשׁוּ כִּי יְדַבְּרוּ אֶת אוֹיְבִים בַּשָּׁעַר.
