Tehillah 140 – תהלה קמ – D'var יהוה , The Word of יהוה

¹For the Leader. A Mizmor of David.

²Deliver me, O יהוה , from the evil man; preserve me from the violent men;

³Who devise evil things in their heart; every day do they stir up wars.

⁴They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; vipers’ venom is under their lips. Selah.

⁵Keep me, O יהוה , from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to make my steps slip.

⁶The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah.

⁷I have said unto יהוה , “You are my God”; give ear, O יהוה , unto the voice of my supplications.

⁸O יהוה Adonai, the strength of my Salvation, who has screened my head in the day of battle,

⁹Grant not, O יהוה , the desires of the wicked; further not his evil device, so that they exalt themselves. Selah.

¹⁰As for the head of those that encompass me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

¹¹Let burning coals fall upon them; let them be cast into the fire, into deep pits, that they rise not up again.

¹²A slanderer shall not be established in the earth; the violent and evil man shall be hunted with thrust upon thrust.

¹³I know that יהוה will maintain the cause of the poor, and the right of the needy.

¹⁴Surely the Tzadikim shall give thanks unto Your Name; the upright shall dwell in Your presence.

^אלַמְנַצֵּחַ מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד.

^בחַלְּצֵנִי יהוה מֵאָדָם רָע; מֵאִישׁ חֲמָסִים תִּנְצְרֵנִי.

^גאֲשֶׁר חָשְׁבוּ רָעוֹת בְּלֵב; כָּל יוֹם יָגוּרוּ מִלְחָמוֹת.

^דשָׁנְנוּ לְשׁוֹנָם כְּמוֹ נָחָשׁ: חֲמַת עַכְשׁוּב תַּחַת שְׂפָתֵימוֹ סֶלָה.

^השָׁמְרֵנִי יהוה מִידֵי רָשָׁע מֵאִישׁ חֲמָסִים תִּנְצְרֵנִי: אֲשֶׁר חָשְׁבוּ לִדְחוֹת פְּעָמָי.

^וטָמְנוּ גֵאִים פַּח לִי וַחֲבָלִים פָּרְשׂוּ רֶשֶׁת לְיַד מַעְגָּל; מֹקְשִׁים שָׁתוּ לִי סֶלָה.

^זאָמַרְתִּי לַיהוה אֵלִי אָתָּה; הַאֲזִינָה יהוה קוֹל תַּחֲנוּנָי.

^ח יהוה אֲדֹנָי עֹז יְשׁוּעָתִי; סַכֹּתָה לְרֹאשִׁי בְּיוֹם נָשֶׁק.

^טאַל תִּתֵּן יהוה מַאֲוַיֵּי רָשָׁע; זְמָמוֹ אַל תָּפֵק יָרוּמוּ סֶלָה.

^ירֹאשׁ מְסִבָּי עֲמַל שְׂפָתֵימוֹ יכסומו (יְכַסֵּימוֹ).

^יאימיטו (יִמּוֹטוּ) עֲלֵיהֶם גֶּחָלִים: בָּאֵשׁ יַפִּלֵם; בְּמַהֲמֹרוֹת בַּל יָקוּמוּ.

^יבאִישׁ לָשׁוֹן בַּל יִכּוֹן בָּאָרֶץ: אִישׁ חָמָס רָע יְצוּדֶנּוּ לְמַדְחֵפֹת.

^יגידעת (יָדַעְתִּי) כִּי יַעֲשֶׂה יהוה דִּין עָנִי: מִשְׁפַּט אֶבְיֹנִים.

^ידאַךְ צַדִּיקִים יוֹדוּ לִשְׁמֶךָ; יֵשְׁבוּ יְשָׁרִים אֶת פָּנֶיךָ.
