Tehillah 89 – תהלה פט

A Maskil of Etan the Ezrakhi.

I will sing of the compassions of  יהוה  forever; to all generations will I make known Your faithfulness with my mouth.

For I have said, “Forever is compassion built; in the very heavens You do establish Your faithfulness.

I have made a Brit with My chosen, I have sworn unto David My servant:

“Forever will I establish your seed, and build up your throne to all generations.” Selah.

So shall the heavens praise Your wonders, O  יהוה , Your faithfulness also in the congregation of the K’doshim.

For who in the skies can be compared unto  יהוה , who among the sons of might can be likened unto  יהוה ,

A God, dreaded in the great council of the K’doshim, and feared of all them that are about Him?

O  יהוה  Elohei Tzeva’ot, who is a mighty one, like unto You, O Yah? And Your faithfulness is round about You.

You rule the proud swelling of the sea; when the waves thereof arise, You still them.

You did crush Rahav, as one that is slain; You did scatter Your enemies with the arm of Your strength.

Yours are the heavens, Yours also is the earth; the world and the fullness thereof, You have founded them.

The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Khermon rejoice in Your Name.

Yours is an arm with might; strong is Your hand, and exalted is Your right hand.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; compassion and truth go before You.

Happy is the people that know the Teru’ah; they walk, O  יהוה , in the light of Your countenance.

In Your Name do they rejoice all the day; and through Your tzedaka are they exalted.

For You are the glory of their strength; and in Your favor our horn is exalted.

For of  יהוה  is our Magen; and the Kadosh One of Yisra’el is our Melekh.

Then You spoke in a vision to Your Khasidim, and said, “I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

I have found David My servant; with My consecrated oil have I anointed him;

With whom My hand shall be established; My arm also shall strengthen him.

The enemy shall not exact from him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

And I will beat to pieces his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him.

But My faithfulness and My compassion shall be with him; and through My Name shall his horn be exalted.

I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers.

He shall call unto Me, ‘You are my Father, my Elohim, and the Rock of my Salvation.’

I also will appoint him first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.

Forever will I keep for him My compassion, and My Brit shall stand fast with him.

His seed also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

If his children forsake My Torah, and walk not in My ordinances;

If they profane My statutes, and keep not My Mitzvot;

Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with strokes.

But My compassion will I not break off from him, nor will I be false to My faithfulness.

My Brit will I not profane, nor alter that which is gone out of My lips.

Once have I sworn by My Kadesh, “Surely I will not be false unto David;

His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.

It shall be established forever as the moon; and be stedfast as the witness in sky.” Selah.

But You have cast off and rejected, You have been wroth with Your Mashi’akh.

You have abhorred the Brit of Your servant; You have profaned his crown even to the ground.

You have broken down all his fences; You have brought his strongholds to ruin.

All that pass by the way spoil him; he is become a taunt to his neighbors.

You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies to rejoice.

Yes, You turn back the edge of his sword, and have not made him to stand in the battle.

You have made his brightness to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.

The days of his youth have You shortened; You have covered him with shame. Selah.

How long, O  יהוה , will You hide Yourself forever? How long shall Your wrath burn like fire?

O remember how short my time is; for what vanity have You created all the children of men!

What man is he that lives and shall not see Mavet, that shall deliver his soul from the power of She’ol? Selah.

Where are Your former compassions, O Adonai, which You did swear unto David in Your faithfulness?

Remember, Adonai, the taunt of Your servants; how I do bear in my bosom [the taunt of] so many peoples;

Wherewith Your enemies have taunted, O  יהוה , wherewith they have taunted the footsteps of Your Mashi’akh.

Blessed is  יהוה  for evermore. Amein, and Amein.
