1The D’var יהוה that came to Yo’el Ben Petu’el. 2“Hear this, you old men, and give ear, all you inhabitants of the land. Has this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers? 3Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. 4That which the palmer-worm has left has the locust eaten; and that which the locust has left has the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm has left has the caterpiller eaten. 5Awake, you drunkards, and weep, and wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouth. 6For a people is come up upon my land, mighty, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he has the jaw-teeth of a lioness. 7He has laid my vine waste, and blasted my fig tree; he has made it clean bare, and cast it down, the branches thereof are made white. 8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. 9The Minkhah and the Nesekh is cut off from Beit יהוה ; the Kohanim mourn, even the ministers of יהוה . The10 field is wasted, the land mourns; for the grain is wasted, the choice wine is dried up, the oil languishes. 11Be ashamed, O you husbandmen, wail, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished. 12The vine is withered, and the fig tree languishes; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered; for joy is withered away from the sons of men.
13Gird yourselves, and lament, you Kohanim, wail, you ministers of the Mizbe’akh; come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my Elohim; for the Minkhah and the Nesekh is withheld from Beit Eloheikhem. 14Consecrate a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land unto Beit יהוה your Elohim, and cry unto יהוה . Alas15 for the day! For Yom יהוה is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. 16Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yes, joy and gladness from Beit Eloheinu? 17The grains shrivel under their hoes; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered. 18How do the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yes, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. 19Unto You, O יהוה , do I cry; for the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has set ablaze all the trees of the field. 20Yes, the beasts of the field pant unto You; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.”
אדְּבַר יהוה אֲשֶׁר הָיָה אֶל יוֹאֵל בֶּן פְּתוּאֵל. בשִׁמְעוּ זֹאת הַזְּקֵנִים וְהַאֲזִינוּ כֹּל יוֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ; הֶהָיְתָה זֹּאת בִּימֵיכֶם וְאִם בִּימֵי אֲבֹתֵיכֶם. געָלֶיהָ לִבְנֵיכֶם סַפֵּרוּ; וּבְנֵיכֶם לִבְנֵיהֶם וּבְנֵיהֶם לְדוֹר אַחֵר. דיֶתֶר הַגָּזָם אָכַל הָאַרְבֶּה וְיֶתֶר הָאַרְבֶּה אָכַל הַיָּלֶק; וְיֶתֶר הַיֶּלֶק אָכַל הֶחָסִיל. ההָקִיצוּ שִׁכּוֹרִים וּבְכוּ וְהֵילִלוּ כָּל שֹׁתֵי יָיִן; עַל עָסִיס כִּי נִכְרַת מִפִּיכֶם. וכִּי גוֹי עָלָה עַל אַרְצִי עָצוּם וְאֵין מִסְפָּר; שִׁנָּיו שִׁנֵּי אַרְיֵה וּמְתַלְּעוֹת לָבִיא לוֹ. זשָׂם גַּפְנִי לְשַׁמָּה וּתְאֵנָתִי לִקְצָפָה; חָשֹׂף חֲשָׂפָהּ וְהִשְׁלִיךְ הִלְבִּינוּ שָׂרִיגֶיהָ. חאֱלִי כִּבְתוּלָה חֲגֻרַת שַׂק עַל בַּעַל נְעוּרֶיהָ. טהָכְרַת מִנְחָה וָנֶסֶךְ מִבֵּית יהוה ; אָבְלוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים מְשָׁרְתֵי יהוה . ישֻׁדַּד שָׂדֶה אָבְלָה אֲדָמָה: כִּי שֻׁדַּד דָּגָן הוֹבִישׁ תִּירוֹשׁ אֻמְלַל יִצְהָר. יאהֹבִישׁוּ אִכָּרִים הֵילִילוּ כֹּרְמִים עַל חִטָּה וְעַל שְׂעֹרָה: כִּי אָבַד קְצִיר שָׂדֶה. יבהַגֶּפֶן הוֹבִישָׁה וְהַתְּאֵנָה אֻמְלָלָה; רִמּוֹן גַּם תָּמָר וְתַפּוּחַ כָּל עֲצֵי הַשָּׂדֶה יָבֵשׁוּ כִּי הֹבִישׁ שָׂשׂוֹן מִן בְּנֵי אָדָם.
יגחִגְרוּ וְסִפְדוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים הֵילִילוּ מְשָׁרְתֵי מִזְבֵּחַ בֹּאוּ לִינוּ בַשַּׂקִּים מְשָׁרְתֵי אֱלֹהָי: כִּי נִמְנַע מִבֵּית אֱלֹהֵיכֶם מִנְחָה וָנָסֶךְ. ידקַדְּשׁוּ צוֹם קִרְאוּ עֲצָרָה אִסְפוּ זְקֵנִים כֹּל יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ בֵּית יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם; וְזַעֲקוּ אֶל יהוה . טואֲהָהּ לַיּוֹם: כִּי קָרוֹב יוֹם יהוה וּכְשֹׁד מִשַּׁדַּי יָבוֹא. טזהֲלוֹא נֶגֶד עֵינֵינוּ אֹכֶל נִכְרָת; מִבֵּית אֱלֹהֵינוּ שִׂמְחָה וָגִיל. יזעָבְשׁוּ פְרֻדוֹת תַּחַת מֶגְרְפֹתֵיהֶם נָשַׁמּוּ אֹצָרוֹת נֶהֶרְסוּ מַמְּגֻרוֹת: כִּי הֹבִישׁ דָּגָן. יחמַה נֶּאֶנְחָה בְהֵמָה נָבֹכוּ עֶדְרֵי בָקָר כִּי אֵין מִרְעֶה לָהֶם; גַּם עֶדְרֵי הַצֹּאן נֶאְשָׁמוּ. יטאֵלֶיךָ יהוה אֶקְרָא: כִּי אֵשׁ אָכְלָה נְאוֹת מִדְבָּר וְלֶהָבָה לִהֲטָה כָּל עֲצֵי הַשָּׂדֶה. כגַּם בַּהֲמוֹת שָׂדֶה תַּעֲרוֹג אֵלֶיךָ: כִּי יָבְשׁוּ אֲפִיקֵי מָיִם וְאֵשׁ אָכְלָה נְאוֹת הַמִּדְבָּר.
